It got a bit drawn out with the addition of the Sunday episode. One episode just seemed like filler, they had Deirdre coming out with trite lines to Mike and Alma like I really hope this is the beginning of the end of it all now!

What a fantastic month for Corrie, in fact I would class the first half of 1998 the end of "classic" Corrie, with late 1998 and 1999 the beginning of "modern" Corrie. January marks the Jon Lindsay saga coming to a gripping end. At 3:09:26 when Deirdre says, "I said I didn't want legal representation...I've just changed my mind". Wow, what a line and delivered perfectly. Love these episodes, thank you.

@@dementednun1175 Absolutely. The one about saving the trees was abysmal, Emily was more unbearably self-righteous than ever. The story of Nick and Leanne was silly, the same as the one involving Jack and Vera's stairs, etc. It's near the start of the era I'm most familiar with and the decline in quality is stark. And one of the dullest, most irritating characters ever appears in the form of Haley. Boring in her own right, and later intolerable as the other half of the equally insufferable Roy. I think I'd leave it here, but I want to see how the story with Deidre develops and ends.

@@dementednun1175 I do agree with you, it was the Jon-Deirdre story that was most of interest to me. I skip through the save-the-trees escapades, and also Woodentop Nick Tilsley scenes (he is awful). One of the best things about January 1998 for me, was that the episodes were a mostly Mallett-free zone, they hardly featured at all, which I really appreciated.

@@shylinh5939. The storyline involving Deirdre ends with Deirdre in prison for Jon Lindsay's crimes but is eventually released from prison after Jon Lindsay was caught and charged and imprisoned for the same crimes he had Deirdre imprisoned for. The police will catch Jon Lindsay just wait for that to come when Deirdre is released and as Deirdre leaves the prison a free woman she stands and watches Jon Lindsay be taken away to prison in police handcuffs.

I agree, its easy watching it play out on a tv screen & passing judgement saying Deirdre should have known esp when her Bloke had already lied to her Its never happened to me & i thank god it never has, ive never been in a situation where i was looking for a man of means etc I had a good career & self sufficient. I also get a feel about people who try too hard to impress & flash around wealth or pocessions Most genuinely wealthy people do not feel the need to show off They are confident in themselves & by the positions they hold in life & work need no explaining. those who have climbed the ladder of success & do advertise their wealth are very materialistic & set out to buy people, they dont have confidence in themselves so buy people esp trophy wives to show off. The odd phantacists like Deirdres man who live 2 or more separate lives as he does are thankfully few & far between. Still Deirdre must have wondered about his absences & odd working hours, his extravagances, luxuries yet hes only working for a cheap tie shop chain Didnt she question how he could afford super luxury homes, cars Furniture??? Plus putting credit cards & mortgages & deeds in her name Didnt that set alarm bells ringing? Beggers belief! Deirdre isnt stupid & deep down she must have had doubts but didnt want to face them. She too was ecstatic in opulence & the need to show off & flaunt. Its sad all round, for the deceived wives & girlfriends & worse if children are involved Plus the state of the deceiver Who in their right mind could even COPE with 2 separate families??? Cheers & thank you EHS 🇬🇧👧

I must admit, Ashley's soppy obsession with the surly and ungrateful Zoe was as nauseating as Judy Mallett's fanatical obsession with the baby. If ever there was an ill-matched couple it was Ashley and Zoe. Why couldn't he see she was using him? As I see it, Zoe had no 'lovable' qualities at all, she was bolshy and manipulative 99% of the time, yet Ashley seemed in a daze about her. I was definitely on Maxine's side, she was right to ditch him while he was being so mawkish and pathetic, but then, had she stuck around, maybe Zoe wouldn't have got her claws into him. Pity she didn't target Nick Tilsley instead, and ended up at war with Gail instead of Leanne.

@carasmith549 As I pointed out Five years later Asley had a go at Ken Barlow for wanting to Aiden Critchley. What Ken was doing for Aiden Critchley was no different to what Ashley is doing for Zoe Tattershall, except that it turned out what Ken was doing was right in the end. Ken was trying to stop Aiden from being convicted for a crime he did not commit which ruined his friendship with Emily for a little while. You would think that as Emily knew Ken for 34 years she would try to understand his reasons.

@@montrayjones1947 I'd like to see a prosecution try to make that stick in court. In Deidrie's case, she agreed to marry someone she didn't know was already married, but the wedding didn't happen. She wasn't the one setting up a bigamous marriage. It's like going on trial for a crime you thought about committing, maybe even intended to, but didn't. Unless crimes were committed in the process of getting to that position, how could there be a case against you?

I dont know if this storyline ever came up but to me, the scriptwriters lost a gem of a story. Bringing back Lynda Baron as Mrs Turnbull the rich widow of buxon proportions ( the big & bonny lady who chased jack round the bedroom) full of fun & frolicks & meeting Fred Elliott in the Rovers! My goodness the thought of those two chasing each other around, laughing, guffawing, eating sublime food, feeding each other toffee covered grapes.. Lynda would have been the female Fred Elliott! Their storylines would have been hilarious! What a shame this idea never Materialised... or did it? Or did this Brian Park - producer find this kind of story line too full of fun & smiles & feel good Factor. He seems to favour fast paced drama like a rollercoaster, thick Fast & heavy, no quaint love lines Ah well! I think a Fred/Mrs Turnbull would have been a fantastic addition to Corrie regulars! I remember an interview with Georgia Taylor, Toyah, where she said Eileen Derbyshire had so much guts. Those Red Rec scenes must have been filmed about Nov/Dec time, probably very early in the morning, freezing, windy and rainy, and who knows how many takes would’ve been required, esp if it was foggy too. Even if they had heaters and constant hot drinks and were wearing thermals, the storyline must have been a daunting prospect for Eileen. I wonder if Betty or Barbara would’ve climbed up a tree!

Since Deirdres arrest & the questions & objections from the police it also makes me ask the same question, which is WHAT did Deirdres conman boyfriend Jon Lindsay get out of everything he did ?? If hed misappropriated the credit card given to Deirdre or collected The stuff she bought on the credit card, id understand But he'd gone to a great deal of trouble & planning & extreme cunning & cleverness, to set everything up but not to explain what HE would get out of it! Im thinking it was was for the sheer pleasure of looking, to Deirdre, & all her friends as Mr Big Shot! Everyone envying Her & his luxurious home, beautiful furnishings etc Ok if he had mental health problems, it may tally! But it just seems off to have performed such complicated juggling of finances & fraud for .... what exactly? Im thinking the same as the police are thinking, what would be the point of all mr lindsays planning? Ok he obtained Deirdres £5,000 Which he, explained to his wife, as a work bonus but.. despite all his elaborations hes settling for just £5,000 ? Its chicken feed Why didnt he set something up for himself before the real pilot Mr Jenkins tumbled to the fact his bank statements showed such discrepancies?? Im sure that pilot knew Jon Lindsey, knew he was looking after his house for 6 months Couldnt he have told the police about this & matching up with Deirdres statements?? Im still utterly puzzled by it all & how Deirdre ended up in jail The Fly n Tie shop assistant also knew Jon Lindsay, plus she could have placed Deirdre on New Years eve at the airport tie shop. Its a crap crap story line 🇬🇧👧 PS Deirdres solicitor is abit naff esp as 95% of Deirdres friends & others in Coronation street saw & witnessed Jon Lindsay courting Buying & giving Deirdre gifts & the house etc Plus ive noticed no one has brought up the reason WHY did lindsay do it! Not even Ken, they never once look at the whole business & ask the reason for lindsay setting everything up & what was his angle! This is whats got me puzzled! Its the obvious question There are so many witnesses to jon lindsays existance ( hes even in the local gazette with his photo & name, when Deirdre is presenting a travel prize at Sunliners travel shop! There are lots of clues & the police only need to question all the people who met Lindsay & were at the house warming party Why didnt the script writers consult some real life fraudsters & their deeds & produce a credible senario?? Cheers Again 🇬🇧👧

It's a wonder that Audrey did not say to Emily during Audrey's heavy lecture to her between 2:22:57 and 2:23:55 "What would Annie Walker say if she could see you now?" Because Annie Walker was still in Coronation Street for 4 years and 5 months after Audrey's first appearance in Coronation Street.

Between 3:19:28 and 3:19:31 Maxine was out of order giving cheek to a man 36 years older than herself. People's elders more than 20 years are entitled to a certain amount of respect whoever the person is and what he might be like. Maxine should have been more polite and said to Fred; "I have no intention of going back with Ashley whatever the circumstances may be.

I want to get a huge bat and whack that policeman who was interrogating Deirdre ride on his head. He seemed like a total prick, they casted him well lol XD Omg, also is that the actress who played the lady's maid Anna in Downton Abbey. Didn't know she was a child actress, good performance here as well. Although in Downton, anyone with a Northern accent is immediately a member of the downstairs cast XD
