Slater Stone Did your bunion actually go away?
@slaterstone87527 жыл бұрын
treehuggermc1: I can't say that it "went away" because if I go back to my old shoes (not Correct Toes approved) even for just a few hours, my big toe will naturally gravitate to its' old position, the shoe rubs in the wrong place and I end up with a red painful spot (the bunion). What has worked for me is wearing Correct Toes inside a minimalist shoe with toe socks (more comfortable when wearing the Correct Toes because my feet sweat a lot) and performing the bunion exercises. If I do these things my bunion is not red and irritated, my foot has a much more natural look (big toe is straighter and more aligned with my foot and my toes are spread apart properly) and, most importantly, I don't have the excruciating nerve pain on the top of my big toe. In addition I am not having the low back, hip and knee pain that I had prior to starting this therapy when I was wearing orthotics and motion control shoes. Hope this helps.

Heel drop exercise held slow min or longer .. on both sides/one side. Slowly lean into it but outside of pain - sore or very sore. Alternate food. For a while each session build strength by raising heel slowly and lowering it all the way down- slowly. (Is that concentric exercise? Or excentric? lol) You may also bend your knees instead of having a straight and do the same stuff but with a bent knee. This targets the soleus which is the muscle underneath the gastrocnemius -> both on the back of your lower leg. For more detail see Wikipedia anatomy articles. After get used to it you can use your arms but only one at a time. I want you to keep holding onto something as you do it. I would hold onto a tree or a garbage can and use the curb for the step a lot of the time. It is very important that you keep your upper body straight and erect in relation to gravity. It should be relaxed but aware and straight as in how you would stand. That will stretch muscles in the front to go with what you were stretching in the back and by the front I mean your rectus abdominis. More on request. Bio energy and AIM.

Being a climbing and needing to fit it to pretty small/tight shoes I've been dealing with pain from a bunion in my left big toe pretty much since I started climbing. I got shoes that were a bit bigger to make room but am going to give these exercises a try. Any other climbers dealing with similar pain report back here in 6 months or so and I'll let you know how I'm doing. Edit: I've tried these exercises regularly for a while but i think what i realized is there is no way to "fix" a bunion without surgery- as a bunion is a dislocation of the joints or permanent damage in my case. It could be arthritic which is what i believe mine is (arthritis runs in my family) but what does work well for me is I have been using silicone gel inserts for in between your toes. So my recommendations as a climber suffering from bunions , as i spent the past year+ trying to remedy mine, Get some gel inserts and/or toe spacers that are comfy, I wear a big toe spacer when i climb. Don't leave climbing shoes on when you aren't climbing. I try to keep mine on only when im climbing. Get barefoot wide shoes and only wear these, no more tight running shoes. Get socks with toes so your socks dont squeeze your foot . Work on stretching the foot and spreading your toes. Hopefully this will help prevent ever needing surgery in the future and make my bunion tolerable.

@@zenithchan1646 these movements/exercises with combinations of some toe spacers/spreaders can definitely help. For me the “pulling” exercise they show with a towel I had trouble doing due to pain so I’ve shyed away from it as it seems to hit exactly where my toe is messed up. But the massage and the rubber band exercise that you wrap around the toe was game changer for me, I think this one really helped with some of the pain. I still tend to avoid hard slab climbing but I’ve been climbing relatively pain free in all my other climbing. I also sometimes climb with a spacer in between my big toe and middle toe which I feel like helps.

@vivianhudacek15563 жыл бұрын
Starkey Morgan I’ve been very lax wearing them the last 6 months, like never. Since the pandemic quarantine, I’m mostly home & barefoot. I was able to wear them for long periods pretty quickly. I also made a point of getting rid of shoes that weren’t designed to allow me to wear them. Correct Toes are not very big, so it was an easy transition, & the material is very soft & feels good. Some years ago I bought Yoga Toes, which take much more getting used to bc they are much, much thicker & not meant to be worn with shoes. Both are good products, & I need to get back in the habit of wearing them. Yoga Toes are designed to be worn about 5 minutes at first & definitely take some getting used to. You gradually build up time. You can wear them at night while you sleep after awhile, but I never did that bc they’re not meant to walk in, & I was afraid that if I got up in the night that I’d fall & kill myself.

@Northwest Foot & Ankle Just *watching* this makes my bunion hurt! Anything that pulls on the big toe causes deep aches in the joint, which lasts for several hours. For instance, I cannot wear any sandals with a toe loop or straps that criss-cross over that big toe. I've started using Correct Toes a few days ago and that doesn't seem to bother it, as it's a gentle stretch at this time. I'll add the material into the slot after three months as your site suggests, but in the meantime was hoping to try this bunion reversal exercise. Not sure if I can, due to pain. 😬
@correcttoes11 ай бұрын
That's okay! Everyone is at a different degree . Start with the Correct Toes and even using heating creams or pads in the next few weeks. Then slowly try and mobilize that joint. If it's still near impossible in the coming months, we can regroup and apply some other methods.

A fundamental improvement to the most important stretch (0:33 (also affects 1:25)): In order to stretch the adductor hallucis effectively you cannot just bend the big toe outward, you need, with the target foot inverted and resting on the thigh of the opposite leg, to simultaneously hold on to the the other side of the transverse head (by third-fourth-fifth metatarsophalangeal joint)(using your other hand, preferably wearing a dishwashing glove so that you get a good grip). If you don't then the muscle will largely just be pulled along. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adductor_hallucis_muscle

When you typed that did you really think anyone would understand what you were trying to say? Honestly...
@Dwbolan776 жыл бұрын
I think what he is saying is that you would take your effected foot your wanting to stretch.. when you are sitting, place your foot on your other thigh so your foot is now at the ankle resting on the thigh of your other leg.. Like you would if your are crossing your leg. this will allow your foot to rotate inward some. Then, using your hand furthest away from the foot.. to grab the 4 other toes. at where they connect to the foot and hold them there so they dont slide to much towards the big toe. Now, taking your free hand and using it to pull the big toe.. (which is called the 1st metatarsal bone) away from the foot to allow it to stretch like you see in the video above and holding it there so it can stretch for 30 sec to 1 min.... then release.. then do it again... do this a few mins at least... like 5 mins of total stretch time. You can do this multiple times a day.

I appreciate the video. I had been wearing minimalist “barefoot” shoes for 2 years when I stumbled upon Correct Toes. And videos about reversing bunions. I do not have a first toe bunions, but I do have fifth toe bunions that I would like to correct. I have been wearing correct toes for about 4 months now, but I do not (and have not for a while) think they splay my toes quite wide enough, even with additional foam in the fifth toe spacer. I’m really not seeing much progress on actually reversing the bunion, but my toes are certainly more flexible than they were. In other words I do see benefits, just not the particular benefit I was hoping for. Are there any other options to splay my toes a bit wider? I have found socks that do, but they are meant for rest and not day wear. Any thoughts would be appreciated if you have the time. Thank you.

I don't wear tight shoes but my toe was starting to move over so at night I slept with my heel on the other foot,between the big toe and the next toe, spreading the big toe outward and it kept it from slanting inward, straightening it up over time.
@mary_puffin10 ай бұрын
You don't need to wear tight shoes for this to be a problem. The modern shoe design is going to push your big toe in. Even shoes that feel loose have this design - they don't affect you only because you're habituated from a lifetime of wearing the . Very few modern shoes are shaped like natural feet. You specifically have to look for minimalist shoes. After wearing only minimalist shoes for 3 years, I can't fit in normal shoes anymore. I once tried shoes that felt like they fit and my big toe really hurt after 1 hour only.

For how long and how often should we use these exercises to help the alignment on our big toe?
@correcttoes Жыл бұрын
This natural approach can take anywhere from six months to a year of consistency. Pain can often reduce within 4-6 weeks. We recommend 5-10 minutes of your day, slowly increasing your time as you feel more comfortable. You can think of this as any other exercise where you increase your weight, resistance, time, etc.

Hmmm... when talking about strengthening the adductor, she didn't mention the arch. For me, plantar fasciitis has been the largest contributor to big-toe misalignment and strengthening the muscles from arch right thru to the hip essential.
@timyatcak32922 жыл бұрын
Only problem is that everything along the plantar fascia is on one plane and the hallux valgus is in a completely different one
@babuddha2 жыл бұрын
@@timyatcak3292 Morning, Tim. Don't know about planes. Like poorly designed footware, compromised arches cause pronation, which also leads the big toe to become misaligned and fail to carry its proportionate share of body weight. Rewatching the video, what the therapist did by manually straightening her big toe with her hands, I propose accomplishing with the musculature of the foot and leg itself (perhaps assisted manually at first -- the toes do become relatively disfunctional individually from wearing shoes). Perhaps this gets back to your planes reference... the adductor hallucis would prolly be considered antagnostic to the abductor hallucis which participates in the "extension" the big toe and the arch.

Hi! Can you tell me where I can get the resistance band and massage ball used at 1:34? Thank you :) Best, A.
@correcttoes7 жыл бұрын
Hi Aleksandra! We are using a small resistance band and ball that comes in a 'Hand and Foot Treatment Kit' by MELT: www.meltmethod.com/store/product/hand-and-foot-treatment-kit/ For a possibly more affordable at-home solution for a resistance band, you could use a very thick rubber band (just cautious of it snapping if there are small tears in it!)

@@correcttoes Typically you can find a band like that around broccoli. Instead of the ball, a wine cork works.

Is it actually possible to reverse a mild bunion that is not so noticeable? Or once there is a small bump the most I can do is preventing it from worsening?
@correcttoes7 жыл бұрын
It is actually possible to reverse mild bunions through consistent use of Correct Toes and foot-healthy shoes! It does take time, however many of our customers have been able to reverse their bunions. Check out our website (www.correcttoes.com/?SID=5mkoffnm1oot2l2ct23jlvhs17) to read testimonials, learn about conditions, and much more!

You have a foot where the hallux is still here while gone on the other. I'm the same. My right foot corrected quite fast (few month at most), but i'm working on my left foot since 2 years now and things are hawfully slow. When I go to osteopaths, they often see some issues with cuboïd bone. I had a severe ankle flip on this foot when I was young too. I guess I'm going to make some video footage for Dr Ray, he might have some idea, because I my opinion is that something else is in the way to recovery, influenceing from distance. Something might be wrong somewhere else in my foot/ankle, that's a complexe structure anyway. Would be great if DR Ray could try to figure out some more complicated problems

@AtlantisArch2 жыл бұрын
@@nobady4830 yup, at least one did. I guess you might get all the info from channel "Northwest Foot & Ankle" interresting, especially about Dr. Ray McClanahan explaining he was a good foot churgeon and when he had to correct his very feets he just couldn't and re-learned every thing. I guess that's in one of his oldest vid, maybe ?v=XIS_evkfI3A . Don't forget : 1/ first right shoes, then socks, then exercices, then maybe some devices to speed it up and 2/ it took years for change the natural shape of your foot, it might take some time to correct it BUT if you don't stop the trend root (the shoes), nothing will help. There are now PLENTY of accurate shoes now for (very) CHEAP on Ali or else btw. My right bunion doesn't disturb me at all now but still didn't fully reverse as did my left, even I don't know why, after 7 or 8 years leaving stupid occidental foot flagelation fashion. edit : forgot to mention that I was (recetly on stop because of an accident) an ultratrail runner and I never injured myself doing such long distances after going plant based diet + using appropriate footwear. Before that I had tons of week/months lasting injuries barely running marathons

I have two bunions. They're pretty big in size. Saw two podiatrists: one recommended surgery, the 2nd one did not. If I do these excerises, will my bunions decrease in size?

My brother had hallux too and he got some bandages from doctor to fix it. He wore them at night, but it didn't worked and it also caused him pain, so after a long time he gave up on them and he bought himself shoes with fingers. And he says, that it helped, so it may be a way too. :)
