Corsica is a French island in the Mediterranean, but its people may not agree. Join me on a grand tour of northern Corsica and its history. I see Bastia, Corte, Ajaccio, the Calanques of Piana, and Calvi and meet some people along the way.

My family is Italian but my Nonna was born in Corsica. She never referred to her as French or even spoke the language. I always felt so intrigued by the island and its history but there’s not a lot of information. I truly want to go there! Thanks for the video.

I’m 1/2 Corsican and 1/2 Breton, so 2 very strong independent peoples/cultures who never felt like they were French - in American terms, it’s like having Sicilian and Irish ancestry. I’m so impressed with your French (pronounciation, grammar, willingness to learn 👌🏼) as well as with your research and understanding of what the Corsicans are all about: fiercely proud mountaineers who will never knee down to their continental overlords. I also loved that you included the “rumour” (or is it? 😏)that _if you talk to my daughter, you’re going to loose a finger_ 😂 In fact, my dad always threatened my 1st boyfriend that if he disrespected me, it’d get gunned down (we lived in Paris and firearms are absolutely not a thing in France, so this was obviously just a joke, but the poor boyfriend was terrified of my dad. 😂) On behalf of my ancestors and of my fellow Corsican people, I would like to thank you for how justly and respectfully you talked about the political and socio-economical microclimate that’s Corsica. You did us proud. ❤

Great video. I've been going to Corsica, since 2004, been 10 times over the years, the last time I was there was in May 2023. Every time has been a cycling holiday, have biked many miles and recognise some of the roads from your video. Such a great place, but also a great cycling destination, mostly good roads, impressive scenery, not too steep and little traffic, if your lucky. The bullet holed road signs and/or graffiti are always a talking point. Geoff from UK.

Hey, I'm corsican, living in aiacciu. Thanks for your video and for your understanding of the situation. You know living in Corsica is not easy, it's very expensive, not a lot of opportunities, it's a bit like 'no futur' here. I think if France wasn't so bounded to make all the corsican culture, language and way of life disappear while giving the same opportunity as elsewhere, we Corsican wouldn't mind being part of France. But that's not reality.

Nicely done! I really enjoyed your story! I go there early August for a three week vacation with my little daughter. Do you remember where the little river stream was were you and your buddy took a swim between the rocks it was a little fast stream after a little walk? At the 27:58 minute mark. I hope you still know...I love to go there with my daughter and take a exclusive swim would be a nice experience for her👌🏼

Corsica is awesome! Stopped at a tabac in the countryside where I started talking to locals, after a long convo I tried to pay but the guy covered me already (across the island locals would pay my tab before I could). Slowly more townspeople trickled in as I was told that it was the guy's birthday and that I had to stay, a 15 min pitstop turned into my entire evening and an unforgettable memory.

this report is very biaised and you did not enquire from the people in Corsica who vehemently disagree...or with the rest of France, which was trashed. or maybe why not start a series on the secessionists movementsn the world over, especially in your own backyards...this could be an idea...the last time some states were not happy about being part of the US, you had a very bloody war of secession. you can find hundreds on native american nations not entirely happy with uncle Sam. just saying, if you go politics try to be balanced and go a little deeper. other wise this is just a hitjob. coming to another country for cheap hollidays and do that is very rich...that s insane...anyways...

Alright, I'm prepared for people to disagree with me when I put my opinions on the internet. That is fair. However, I have to respond to this because you are totally twisting the conclusions and feelings I talked about in this video. 1. I am not a journalist, and I don't pretend to be. This is my subjective walk through a place, learning as I go and trying to understand how the history compares to the experience in the place. 2. France was not trashed. I love France. I am even devoting time in my life to learn the French language (its hard and I still suck at it!) to see more of France. I was examining the dynamics between Corsicans and the French government from my subjective point of view. 3. Advocating secessionist movements?? The conclusion talks through how I hope Corsica and France can work together to improve their coexistence, which was reflected in the conversations I had both with Corsicans and Frenchman. 4. Nowhere in this video was I advocating that one country is better than another. For what its worth, when someone criticizes America, my response isn't to point a finger at what their country does worse. That is not how you improve your own country.
