Was there in '96(my dad lived in Valašské Meziříčí back then, I was born and raised in the Netherlands and I visited him regularly in the nineties) and it was grim, dirty and it felt poor, especially the housing blocks where the Roma lived(the conditions they lived in were shocking to my spoiled western european soul). Walked around in the city to find a flee market kind of thing we heard was cool, don't think we found it eventually, it still was an interesting day. Really nice to revisit Ostrava this way and see it in a better light.

Thanks, this was really useful. I had been using the browser version and didn’t know the free app had the voice option. I am also a French learner, and one thing I would suggest is not to do translations too much. At your level you can give the prompts in French and “converse” more naturally that way, and you learn to think in the target language rather than translating all the time.

The American accent this thing's French has is atrocious, if you internalize this, you'll always sound like an American. And you probably won't even be able to pronounce some of the important nasalized vowels or sounds English doesn't have like "e" (similar to German "ö"). Before this is of any use, it needs to be able to do multi-language responses where its language configuration can change mid-sentence. Or you need to use the purely French version from the start, it uses the correct speech synthesis model.

I later asked it what is the best way to tell someone you ate dinner in french instead of just translating my english sentence and it use dîné the way you did as well, so I think just asking a ton of questions is the best way to really zero in on the right answer. For the accent, when you prompt in French, the accent is great. When you prompt in english for it to say something in French it has an english-ish accent and sounds odd.

the possible weakness of such training vs real teacher is a feedback in case of you are failing. What would model tell you in case you mistranslated or had a bad pronunciation and your speack was not recognised properly. It could be a frustrating thing trying to explain the model what and how you would like to be corrected.

My own impression of this method (after listening to the first 2 min or so video) is that I don't think ChatGPT Voice is a better way to learn a foreign language than methods based on "comprehensible input" methods. Great if you're the type that thinks you need grammar practice to learn a language, but otherwise.... mmm. Asking ChatGPT to correct your mistakes one by one means you're working on a fairly limited number of words and phrases. The "secret" method ALL children have been using for tens of thousands of years -- with SPECTACULAR success -- is EXPOSURE to UNLIMITED streams of sounds for hours and hours a day, day after day, UNLIMITED repetition of SOME words they eventually learn to connect with concepts such as OBJECTS, MOVEMENTS, TASTES, FEELINGS, etc., and words that show different kinds of RELATIONSHIPS between these concepts, and all that simply by being exposed to countless repetition, with slight VARIATIONS between words that help them learn how to connect words together in different ways to express different shades of meanings. The only way for adults to approximate this method is thru reading and hearing conversations (if you are in the country where the language is spoken), listening to texts and stories, with audio (at least in the beginning), with the help of a translation if it's a language fairly different from their own, so they can compare meanings of words and phrases in both languages. The more you read or listen to stories, the more you'll get a feel for how things are said in the language you're studying, and your "mistakes" will end up being slowly corrected, but still much faster than if you ask ChatGPT Voice to do it one occurrence at a time. Learning a language is not a matter of trying to say something and asking someone to correct everything you say, thinking that if someone corrects you once or twice, you'll get the hang of it and not repeat the same mistake again (not a person in a million could do that). It's a matter of hearing and listening to the language often enough that your brain ends up "digesting" the sounds and attributing "meanings" to whole strings of sounds without you're having to even think what they mean, just like in your first language.

Actually, he did say that passé composé was „I walked“ and imparfait was „I was walking“. A nice general rule, but one that often doesn`t work (regrettably!). And passé composé can be simple past or present perfect in English. It all depends on context as noted above.

@michaelmedlinger6399
@michaelmedlinger6399 23 күн бұрын
@@Mega-mo8en It‘s just not that simple - regrettably! Passé composé is generally used for a single completed action in the past, so simple past in English. Imparfait is used for something without a definite beginning and end, often the description of an action that was going on when something else happened, so the classic past continuous in English. It is also used for situations that English describes using „used to do something“ and for descriptions of situations in the past. Passé composé CAN be English present perfect, but there are common situations using present perfect in English that use the present tense in French. J‘habite à Paris depuis 2 ans = I have lived in Paris for 2 years. J‘ai habité à Paris pendant 2 ans = I lived in Paris for two years. J‘habitais à Paris quand France a gagné la Coupe du Monde = I was living in Paris when France won the Word Cup. J‘ai déjà déjeuné aujourd‘hui. = I have already had lunch today.

this report is very biaised and you did not enquire from the people in Corsica who vehemently disagree...or with the rest of France, which was trashed. or maybe why not start a series on the secessionists movementsn the world over, especially in your own backyards...this could be an idea...the last time some states were not happy about being part of the US, you had a very bloody war of secession. you can find hundreds on native american nations not entirely happy with uncle Sam. just saying, if you go politics try to be balanced and go a little deeper. other wise this is just a hitjob. coming to another country for cheap hollidays and do that is very rich...that s insane...anyways...

Alright, I'm prepared for people to disagree with me when I put my opinions on the internet. That is fair. However, I have to respond to this because you are totally twisting the conclusions and feelings I talked about in this video. 1. I am not a journalist, and I don't pretend to be. This is my subjective walk through a place, learning as I go and trying to understand how the history compares to the experience in the place. 2. France was not trashed. I love France. I am even devoting time in my life to learn the French language (its hard and I still suck at it!) to see more of France. I was examining the dynamics between Corsicans and the French government from my subjective point of view. 3. Advocating secessionist movements?? The conclusion talks through how I hope Corsica and France can work together to improve their coexistence, which was reflected in the conversations I had both with Corsicans and Frenchman. 4. Nowhere in this video was I advocating that one country is better than another. For what its worth, when someone criticizes America, my response isn't to point a finger at what their country does worse. That is not how you improve your own country.
