Thanks Lyle. Just did my driver's seat as you suggest in my C5 with 52,000 miles. Yes the wires were cutting through as you predicted. Really great tip that I would never have known about otherwise.

Great tip. When I recovered my seats in my 04 I cut apart the old seat bottom cover and used the center leather section to protect the foam. I actually glued it to the under side of the new foam.

Thanks for very clear explanation and clever fix for this common problem. I took the idea and was able to add a layer of carpet liner, which restored the seat and added an extra layer to fill out the seat leather which had stretched when the wires started cutting into the foam. My seat is 107K miles and I'm amazed the damage was still repairable.

I bought a brand new cheap door mat and cut it in half, placed the rubber towards the wires and had enough for both seats. Worked like a charm.

So glad I stumbled on this video. My C5 has 100k and I just ordered the replacement foam(drivers side only). I work with a lot of leather so I am going to cut out a piece 7-9 ounce Veg Tanned and use for my foam protector. Really appreciate you taking the time to share really great advice !

Hi Lyle, HEY buddy can you talk about the common problem that my 05 c6 corvette has with the fuel indicator failing at around 45-50 thousand miles? when i fill it up it goes to full but when it gets to half tank it says service fuel system because i believe the fingers on the moveable contact arent touching the stationary contact? and why G M hasn't recalled this common problem with their eye piece car?????? thanks I'm gonna redo my seat and that jute is a great idea, I wouldnt of thought of that but will definately do it. thanks Steve Perchinsky

This looks like part of the seat repair kit I invented. I started a company that manufactures and markets C5-C6 Seat repair kits. Our kit first hit the market in 2007 and has sold thousands over the internet and thru many of the on-line accessory dealers. Our kit has a ballistic nylon sheet that is glued to the bottom of the damaged foam plus the jute that you zip tie over the wires. Also, our kit includes blocks of foam that is glued under the bolsters to keep them from sagging down into the 3" void between the center wires and the seat frame. It is the #1 seat repair kit on the market.

Tom, your kits are well thought out and solid, especially for the price. However, with several companies now making quality replacement foam, I have to say that complete replacement of foam with the addition of a jute pad on the support wires is the way to go. Original foam shrinks so much over time that no "repair kit" can truly save it.

Little shit like this that only an expert knows about.. I don’t even have a Corvette, but I like the way this guy breaks things down. He really knows his shit.

Lyle, do the later model C6 with heated seats already have the jute glued to the bottom heated seat element???
@tman38312 жыл бұрын
I'd recommend burlap secured with hog rings. This is how it used to be done. Jute pad has its place and that's under carpet.

@@lyleaulwurm9486 thank you because I was going to change all three on my c4. First I had no idea they had three. Second no idea where they were located and three no idea that each had there own verbiage... I would show all three, describe what each do, what each are called and location....thanks again....
