Thanks Foggy I got it out rather easily with your video. One thing was different. I have a 2003 Z06 and did not have to jack the car up. I turned the pump and bracket up and removed the bottom line with a wrench as mine was threaded into the bottom of the pump directly. I hope that made sense.

How did I know Froggy made a video on this topic too? Thanks for the vid, froggy! I'm pulling all my accessories off right now to hoist the engine out. I'm installing an AVIAID 4-stage "LS-D" dry sump system for racing. The bottom sleeve retainer thing on the pump line to the steering rack looks like a pain in the butt. I'm going to get that and the AC compressor off tomorrow, then hoist the engine out.

Did you replace the power steering hoses while you replaced the power steering pump? Seems like it would have made sense to do so.

So I just saw your post on corvetteforum about your LS7 motor sound. I;ve been banned form there but I can tell you it sounds fine. But thats where the good news ends. Sound is no indication of health of valve guides regardless of what anyone tells you. I'll post the link to the two 07 Z's I've owned, one with 16k and one with 90k. 90k was 1/4" of play in valve guide.

The dealer charges so much because their engineers are morons who design junk that you must remove everything under the sun to get to anything. GM engineers are the biggest idiots of all the Motor companies. The water pump is half the damn engine and everything is attached to it. Any otgher vehicle has a small water pump with one bolt that takes 5 minutes to change. Not GM. GM makes good and sure it would cost thousands of dollars to change. I will never purchase another GM vehicle again as long as I live.

I have a question regarding the drive pulley. I found your instructions on how to remove and replace the a/c tension pulley and idol pulley but came short of showing how to remove the drive idol pulley show in this video. I see that you removed the power steering pump and reservoir to get to it. My question is is there another way to change idol pulley with removing those other parts?
@1947froggy

Vountria Moss Some people break it off with hammer/pliers/etc. It's plastic. Then you can get to the pump bolts & replace pump & get the skeleton pully (holes thru the pully) :)
@jedbl7576

You can remove resv from bracket and than makes it much easier. You pry the clip and slide plastic resv up and off bracket.

YES LOOSEN THE THROTTLE BODY, LEAVE EVERYTHING CONNECTED TO THE BRACKET, ONLY REMOVE SMALL HOSE FROM RESEVOIR...LOOSEN ALL THE BRACKET BOLTS, LIFT THE BRACKET UP AND OUT THE WAY SO YOU CAN LOOSEN THE HIGH PRESSURE LINE FROM THE BLOCK THAT GOES TO STEERING RACK(there is plent of slack to do this). ONCE PRESSURE LINE IS DISCONNECTED FROM THE BLOCK, LOWER THE BRACKET DOWN SO YOU CAN SNAKE THE LINE THROUG AND LIFT EVERYTHING OUT FROM THE TOP...EASY PEASY. HAD MINE OUT IN ABOUT AN HOUR. YOU DO NOT NEED TO JACK YOUR CAR UP OR TAKE FRONT WHEEL OFF

hey froggy how did you go about bleeding the system after installing power steering pump i kept the car up in air turned off with cap off and turned wheel lock to lock (left to right ) but my power steering worked for only about 3 mins then gave out .... this is my second install the 1st one was changed due to noise but ended up being an idler pulley help !
@1947froggy
@1947froggy 10 жыл бұрын
As far as I know, power steering bleeds itself once the car is started & the rack is cycled a few times, then ck the level of fluid to be proper. This is because the pump & fluid adding & air exiting the system is at the high point of the system. Unlike brake & clutch where the air is forced out at the low point. Coolant is a mixed bag, some need bleeding & some bleed themselves. Thanks for watching!

I’m pulling the steering rack for another reason. Is it easier to remove the power steering pump and bracket while steering rack is out?
@1947froggy

I don't think so, pretty separate jobs, If you like, replace the pully with a new one you can fit a socket & extension thru (skeletonized).

Not the ABS lines. The ps lines will be disconnected at the rack. Rather than disconnect ps lines at the ps pump, is it possible to remove the pump, bracket and ps lines all together? Once out, easier to remove lines on the bench.
@1947froggy
@1947froggy 3 жыл бұрын
@@aptsix1728 Yes, but I think with the right wrenches it's not too hard. Either way sure if you disconnect at the rack and get the pump off the block sure. Crows feet wrenched IIRC, there are also little stubby ones & crows feet "ends" that attach to a 3/8 ratchet. It's a little hard doing this from memory but I'm trying. :)

@@1947froggy Found the issue. It was just the steering shaft coupler bolt that must have been lose. I could see the shaft spin a little before before it engaged the rack set up. Funny thing is that bolt felt tight, but I guess not tight enough! Thanks again for your advice and videos!

One comment if you haven.t covered it already. After you get the pump w/bracket take it to Autozone with a 13/16 wrench and a Half in drive ratchet with metric sockets and use their power steering pump pulley puller and if you have your new pump if not rebuilding your old one with Edelmann 8900 rebuild kit. After rebuild and installation on bracket take it back to Autozone and use the pulley installer tool in same kit . Or just borrow the tool kit and do everything at home.

Hey Froggy, Am sending my heads off for work on my '08 Z. I had to remove the power steering reservoir from mine as well. To add to your video, I disconnected the hoses from the same place you did. To get to the lower one, I had recently bought about 12" needle nose pliers with 90 degree tips. Worked very well on the first try. Datawiz
