The editors had a lot to do with the constant changing of Dragon Ball villains especially in this arc. Editor says 19 and 20 sucked, or Cell was ugly and looked like a bug, or looked like an idiot, so they invented the changing forms off the editors' whim.

The Dark Forest is a potentially life-changing read The conclusion, its answer to some of the "big questions", can throw someone into crippling anxiety every time they think about it. Brilliant way to do psychological horror without advertising it as horror haha

Definitely, though I will say that some of the premise of the Dark Forest theory/philosophy/whatever you wanna call it falls apart fairly quickly with some scrutiny. Still absolutely love the series though

This was so fun to see you getting into the meaty part of the trilogy with the whole Wallfacer/Wallbreaker plotlines. You're now entering the last half of the series which was my favorite part and one absolutely wild ride!

DBZ Abridged loved making fun of the power scaling in DBZ. There's one point, if I recall correctly, where the base unit of power is named after Raditz, since he's the first major threat the heroes face but is so thoroughly trivialized right after he dies.

Glad u're enjoyin this saga in DB as this 1 is my fav & due to an infamous story behind the scenes it really shows what an incredible mangaka Toriyama is even under greater constraints than usual. It's funny cus since I grew up watchin DBZ when I saw HxH I immediately made the connection of "OH THIS IS LIKE HIM FROM DB SICK" lol.

I've been trying to follow your progress with the weekly updates but we go from the start of Sayian Invasion to the middle of Namek and now to the start of Cell games. It's a LOT!

Skipped your review for dark forests as I’m reading it currently!! However in terms of dragonball, a very common complaint is that during Z it has become exceptionally more fight heavy and the comedy is more lacklustre etc. The powerups just became about who could punch stronger. To what extent do you agree? Or disagree for that matter.

I disagree. Cell saga, I think can be excused due to it being inherently written as an idiot plot. The shitty decisions cannot be completely criticised as writing incompetence just like any idiot plot. But buu saga is the biggest joke Toriyama has ever written. So ridiculously funny when I re read it a few years ago. I didn’t even care anymore, laughing more and more as time went on. Enjoy the process and don’t care about characters, just the way Toriyama wrote it.

Just curious if you watch any of your favourite moments from One Piece, Dragon Ball etc. To see the on screen comparisons. Also, when you read, do you do voices for the characters, and when you do hear them speak, do they sound like you imagined? I'm glad you are enjoying the Dragon Ball series.

Trunks introduction up to the end of Cell is BY FAR my favorite part of Dragon Ball Z, hope she enjoys it (I do prefer watching the Kai anime, it just adds so much charm for me but the manga is still great).

I have lots of mixed feelings about the dark forest. I really liked the ideas setup at the beginning of the book and the ending is incredible but the middle of the book just wasn't for me. I enjoyed the first book more but I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the 2nd book. I hope you like the 3rd book even better!

Btw the androids are cyborgs. They're just named that way. And yes, Meruem does remind a lot of people of Cell. Funny thing is that he exists because the editor thought that Android 19 and 20 sucked & that 17 & 18 looked like brats. But he still criticized the bug look of Cell so Toriyama had to do something about that.

If your entire thinking towards space and how foreign anything outside of Earth is, then you didn't really understand Dark Forest. It is one of the most devastating books I've ever read, and I LOVED IT.
