This is like illustrating in 3d. Every aspect of these wings, this cosplay, is meticulously worked over and fiddled with. Istg cosplayers deserve so much more respect I swear.

Great job! I've found that using a wire brush to texture the foam works very well.

what primer for the feathers before painting that sells in the U.S? Can it come from an aerosol spray can or must it be brushed on with a paint brush?

Immediately recognized Lindsey Stirling on the back ground. It was master of the tides right? Also great tutorial. Do you think it’s possible to insert the shaft into the actual feather?

Yes of course, all is possible, just try and see if the result is good for you. Some people already made feathers by insert a rod between two pieces of foam or fabric.

What do you use to prep the foam for painting?

Foam need elastic primer before painting. I use Flexipaint, Plastidip or "DIP etanch"

What thickness of eva foam would you reccomend? I am making a pair of lightweight wings attatched to my arms, i want them to be a movable as possible! whats the thinnest i could go?

Is your book for this in English? I would love to purchase it because I'm working on a Harpie (Yu-Gi-Oh) cosplay and I'm trying so hard to figure out the wings 😭

Hi, you plan to craft a harpy too? This is so cool! The EBook is only in French, my English is not perfect for a good translation. There are lots of pics and schemes, and some spanish, german and english cosplayers use online translation. It could help you for your projects, but I am sorry, I don't have a real english version for you 😖

what was the thickness of the craft foam you used? 1mm or 2mm?

Here it is 2mm. If you don't need to engrave feathers, 1mm should be enough. But if you want to engrave them, 1mm will be too thin and you should make little holes

Hi, I've been dealing with EVA daily now for 4 or 5 months. I don't melt it , just cutting and what not but I deal with alot of it. I use it in the basement of my house. My question is do you take precautions because of the formamide content in EVA? Do you wear a mask or gloves when working with it? I hear formamide is a very nasty chemical and some EVA foams have been banned in certain countries. Any advice would be great 👍

Hello, it is highly recommended to wear a mask against foam dust. It is also important for many glues. I don't wear gloves when I work with Eva foam

There are always many ways to make a costume or prop. Don't hesitate to follow your ideas and test other materials. For paper just note that it is really fragile and doesn't resist to humidity.

Hello. It is plastic rods found on AliExpress. Shape is half round and 1 or 2 mm thickness

Also...do you recommend to use black colour for a Sephiroth Wing or would you say better stay with white and paint it afterwards?

They all look to be the same thickness

It is the same thickness for all feathers, but you can change if you prefer work with 3mm for big feathers. There is no specific rules, the most inportant is the resultat ^^ For the color of the foam, to take white foam is inportant for white feathers, and black foam for black feathers. But for other colours, the foam will be completely hide y your undercoat and paint, so you can choose all you want

Would larger feathers still work for a tail?

You can use this technique for make all feathers you need. There is no reason it does not works for a tail, it can be the same feathers... at a different place.

Merci beaucoup ^^ Le tutoriel peut-être adapté aux autres types d'ailes à plumes, il y a juste le système d attache des ailes qui sera bien different si les ailes sont dans le dos, et non sur les bras. Mais ça pourra te donner des idées dans tous les cas. Le lien pour le recevoir en PDF est dans la description :) Bon courage pour ton projet.

It would be helpful if you actually filmed the assembly of the feathers into a wing. I’ve gotten all the way up to that part and my wing looks like shit

I was not able to film this because it was hard rush to finish the costume for a big contest. But I explain all steps of wings making in my EBook (plus tutorial about monster feet, sculpting and modeling helmet, armors, carring). It is only in French but some abroad cosplayers use it with internet translation.
