Overall, I don't think the cost of living in Reno is bad. The gas and home prices are definitely a bummer. What are your thoughts on the costs in Reno?

The nicer parts of Reno are getting crazy house prices, we're looking at Cold Springs and Sparks areas.

Both are affordable options. There are more new homes available in sparks.

The minimum charge on the water bill each month in the Seattle area is over $200 - even though you left for a one month vacation and use no water at all!!! The reason why is the city tacks on some "sewer - wastewater" fee on the water bill. The amount you pay each month is tabulated by determining the average monthly amount of water used in the previous year. Also added to the monthly water bill is a charge for water usage - which figures out to over $100 as well.

I haven't lived in Reno since the 1980s. It use to be cheaper to eat out than it was to grocery shop. The Gold Dust West had a 99 cent breakfast buffet. They had everything available for breakfast you could think of. I also remember Fitzgeralds, they had a great buffet which was my favorite, there beef ribs were so good. The Cal Neva Casino had their anniversary every year thru the month of march. All the prices in their restaurants and at the bar would go down to the same as it was in 1962 when they first opened. This meant you could get a 12 ounce bottle of beer for 25 cents a cocktail for 50 cents and a prime rib dinner for $2.95 After their anniversary it was still cheaper to eat in the casinos year round than to grocery shop. But I'm sure all thats changed like everywhere else.

how does property taxes go up when home prices go up? is there a limit on how much they can be raised?

There’s a 3% annual cap on primary residence taxes. Great question. Let me know if you have anymore questions.

Do people use Hybrid Plug in Cars and or EVs?

Yes, there are many people who drive EV cars, myself included. It has become more and more popular. There are also places around town to charge EV cars and there will be more to come.
