Your installation was very good. The real benefit is on homes that very few trees around them, especially maples and pines. I have a few customers with trees all around their home and to be honest they are a mess. The debris sits on them fairly often and my customer has me come over and clean off the tops. The screens unfortunately also are collecting silt and mud from thre roof and it creates areas where the screen is filled in so much water does come over the guard and onto ther sides of the gutter. The quality of the product is very, very good. But it is the conditions of where you install, how you install them, pitch of the roof, all sorts of factors. Installation skill and attention to detail I have found is very, very important in any installation.

@@k6outdoors I think the most important thing is the pitch of the installation. It *must* be at the same pitch as the roof! Otherwise,the gutter guards act like a shelf,and crap builds up.

I have a 2 1/2 story high gutter height on my house, made some "leaf guard" type covers from aluminum with a brake, and they didn't work as well as I wanted. I bought the costco ones about 8 years ago, rented a lift and had them up within one day, and they have worked great since then. I did also put a de-icing cable on a north facing roof edge and gutter, being in Chicago, but the Costco gutter guards didn't cause any issues with letting the cable thaw out that part of the roof for winter drainage.

I have to give them an F for winter and an A for summer and fall. Here in St. Paul Minnesota I have a problem with the guards icing over which then causes any melt water to run over their edge rather than down into the gutter. The water then creates an ice rink on my sidewalk. With open gutters for the last 30 years I never had any ice on my sidewalk, but I also had to be up on a ladder twice a year to clean the leaves out. I love the guards for most of the year but they are a pain in the winter. Next time I think I'll go with the helmet design.

@@k6outdoors LOL! the ice sets in and doesn't budge for weeks. That said it's not worse than when gutters are full of leaves. It's a good product so far after 2 years. I just remove the guards after leaf falling season from the areas that are prone to ice build up.

Bought the same material from home depot. Did some searching on the net, and found the cheapest on line with home delivery from HD.. This is a SUPER PRODUCT. I believe that it comes in 4ft sections. I installed it under a new `MAN CAVE' shop , with a metal roof. I do recommend using both the 3M strip, and self tapping stainless steel screws. Not the ones that come with the screens.

My sister and brother in-law had their roof redone. The roofer had a recommended gutter guard which was very similar to this one in the video. The roofer's price for installation of the gutter guard was $4000. They thanked the roofer for the information and my brother in-law went online to check out gutter guards. He ended up buying the ones from Costco and it took him two days to install the gutter guard sections. He was a little short and wrote the manufacturer a letter and explained his situation and he was able to buy a small section from the company to finish his project.

I go up in the spring & fall with the blower and remove leaves & whirlybirds. if you have heavy snows 4" to 6" get a snow rake and REMOVE 3' or more of the snow from your eaves & you won't have to worry about ice dams. the stainless steel mesh can be tough to cut so get some GOOD shears...

After moving to "snow" country, and in our newly built home, the gutters would load up with snow, melt just enough to fill the gutters with ice and then as the snow was melting, it was running all over our front porch and refreezing, giving us an ice skating path! Problem solved with THESE Gutter Guards from Costco! I zipped tied a roof heating cord under the gutter guards and anytime it starts to snow, I turn on the heated cord and that melts the snow on the gutter guard, allowing it to drain through my down spouts (which also have the heater cord in them) and for the last two seasons, we have had very little issues with the melting snow off the roof, turning into ice on the front porch!

I put these Costco leaf guards on one of my gutters about 3 years ago. I totally agree that the quality is exceptional and they go on pretty easy. Just a couple of points. Make sure you clean that top edge of the gutter thoroughly so the adhesive on the leaf guards adheres securely. Also, as he put a few screws in near the downspouts if the need arises to go into the gutter to fix any issues, I, on the ends pieces near the downspouts cut the red covering on the adhesive strip about 4-6 inches and peeled them off. That way those last guards can be easily pried off to get into the gutter if necessary as most of the guard was not adhered with the adhesive strip. I have had absolutely no problems with the guards staying in place and like the man says, almost nothing accumulates on the gutter guards.

I bought these about 2 years ago. I only installed in front of my garage when I discovered my fascia boards were made with pressboard which has rotted away over time. So, I have to pull the gutters down to replace the fascia boards before I can install the rest. So now a squirrel has made his home under the the garage section which has been installed. I do worry about the roof peeling off in a wind storm after a partially putting it between the shingle and the starter strips, that it’s losing some of the adhesion.

@@user-jl5lh9mq2b Take the number off my user name, and that's my Gmail account. I found a second squirrel entrance. It's been a big process of taking down the gutters, replacing the fascia and soffit with LP Smartside soffit boards cut to size, and putting the gutters back up. I've completed the east, west, and most of the north side of the house. I put some of the gutter guards up, but want to wait to finish the north side, as that is a connected gutter for almost 3/4 of the house. While I had the soffits down, I also nailed in the sheathing at the top to help the air sealing of the wall cavity, and spray foamed it. There is one section where squirrels got in before I bought the house, where they could stand on the roof and chew their way in. I coated the trim over the soffit with copper mesh that squirrels don't like to chew through, then painted over it.

@jeffa847 we got very lucky actually, we just lost a few branches. Most of our trees are deeply rooted in our soil here in Iowa. My inlaws live about 45 minutes from us and had sustained winds of 145mph for over 30 minutes. The unfortunately had hundreds of trees to clean up, many trees were completely uprooted and on their sides! The storm was classified as a derecho, basically an "in-land" hurricane.

Those are the best gutter covers I’ve seen. Still wouldn’t work for me. In SW Ohio water would shoot across those gutter-guards in sheets. Plus I noticed your house doesn’t have corner dams where the valley empties into the gutter. Corner dams are little pieces of aluminum on the front edge of the gutter so the water doesn’t over-shoot the gutter. Gutter guards are pretty much a no-no around here. You’re more likely to see multiple down spouts. No trees overhanging the house. “ Rain Gutter Cleaning” advertised on TV. The first thing is to divert the water. During a storm if you look out the window and it looks like you’re under a waterfall, you have a problem.

Hey, I appreciate the comment. We do/ can get torrential amounts of rain here in Iowa. The only time I see any sort of run off it is in the valley when it's raining so hard you can't see straight, otherwise the flow the remaining part of the gutter is un obstructed, you can literally spray a garden hose right at it and it passes straight though. 5" and 6" gutter with 3"x4" downspouts are common around here. I definitely could benefit from adding corner dams but haven't had a large enough issue to worry about it. Thanks for stopping in, I appreciate it!

As a home inspector I have NEVER saw any kind of gutter screen not plug and overflow making the gutters worthless. Leaf guards overflow in moderate rains. They all overflow and still let debris in the gutters. Open gutters for the win and are much less work cleaning than messing with this so called maintenance free crap. The lengths Americans will go to just to avoid a little bit of work is really pathetic.

Appreciate your thoughts on the topic, oddly enough at time of our new home inspection it was recommended to add gutter guards. I have had no issues with water overflow and they perform extremely well in heavy rain. I also have had them installed for over 4 years at this point and have never had to clean them. @@k6outdoors I'm glad your having success but the recommendation of adding those from a home inspector is not normal at all. We meet regular for continuing ed and I've never seen an inspector in favor of these. I could show you many many pictures of all types of screens plugged holding piles of debris on them as well as water running right over the screen when its raining. I would guess you have minimal debris falling on your roof or the debris is somehow washing through and out the downspout, I could be wrong. Most homes that have these have heavy tree coverage that plugs them right up. If you have a house with gutters super high or hard to reach then I would tell you good luck, buy a different house. Modern houses and proper gutters do not mix very will thanks to the stupid architecture having gables and valley's all over the place making it impossible to properly shed the roof water away from the foundation of the house.

The gutters on our 150 year old farm house are hung by straps that are screwed to the metal roof, rather than screws that go into the rafter ends. Would these be adaptable to this situation? We don't have any trees close to the house, but leaves blow in from the woods, and the downspouts get clogged. IB old, and climbing ladders two stories isn't something I'll do anymore. So they will need to be cleaned to open them up. It will keep the junk out of the gutters, but unfortunately that will include the rain as well. All guards seem to have compromises. The other good one I hear about is Raindrop.

@k6outdoors
@k6outdoors Жыл бұрын
Hey there! I have been very pleased with them. Generally, if any snow or ice gets on them, they readily melt off on a sunny day. The instructions specifically states they can cause icecycles and ice dams, but all forms of gutter guard will. I personally recommend them based on my experience and plan to put them on my detached garage in the near future. They work so well during the spring and fall of keeping all of the debris out that any little headache from them freezing over is negligible to me. As I am sure you are aware, ice dams can be a problem but most newer homes (built after the 90's)in iowa have, ice water barrier under the 1st 4ft of the roof and it mitigates any concern of water going back up under the shingles. Hope this helps!

EXACTLY! The pine needles just lay on top and eventually decompose. This creates a fine grit that blocks the screen, so the rain just shoots over. To remedy this, you need to take a scrub brush to the screen, so that means you are up on the ladder. This happens multiple times each year. I'm taking mine off.

Each side of the piece has a bit of screen sticking out so the aluminum frame almost touches, but the two sides of screen can overlap to close any gap. I just installed about 135 feet of these things. Very easy to install. Easy to customize for getting around corners or ends that need you to shorten one. I used the self tapping screws to fix them down (mine did not come with adhesive), but the screws were very easy to use and they include the magnetic driver bit.
