Electricity has always been "invisible magic" to me (much to the chagrin of my electromancer of a father) and having you kinda guess your way through this helped me understand things better as well. It's always been "too much information to process at once" when someone explains electricity to me and something like this shows that the world won't burn down if you start small and goof up a bit. Makes the planned LED work of my armor build a little less daunting. Thanks!

You’re welcome! I love the term electromancer. :D

@@punishedprops I love it too, and I'm stealing it because (blush) it describes me! Glad I tripped over this video even if very belatedly. For those viewers new to (or leery of) electromancy you are doing a terrific job of making it less scary and intimidating, while still managing to put across the very important safety aspects without killing all of the fun. If propmaking isn't fun, why do it, right?

I didn't film the cursing at the soldering iron. I tossed three of those switches. It turns out superglue is not a good way to attach switches--the moving parts got glued together.

It looks more even in person, but it does look brighter on camera. I added some more parchment paper to the inside of the blue tube before shipping it out.

I would also add that gels are subtractive coloring and lights are additive. So mixing colored LED's with gels is going to be tricky. If you had a really pure red LED and put it behind a deep blue you would not get purple but just about nothing because the gel is only letting blue light and the LED is only generating red light. Also LEDs, tend to be very narrow wavelength in the colored variety, unlike incandescent which has a much wider spectrum. So the problem is a red LED for instance is a very specific shade of red and has hardly any other colors in it. Point is, working with gels you will probably be better off with as full spectrum white as you can get and let the gel do the coloring. OR get one of the multi color strips and use it's programing to get the color you want. hey but it worked so... That's theatre!

Neato! Some quick electronic tips though: You can think of an electronic circuit as analogous to water flowing through pipes. Voltage is like pressure, and current is like flow rate. So you don't measure the voltage going through a component, you measure how much the voltage drops across it. Similarly, you don't add a resistor in line with LEDs to lower the voltage, but to limit the current passing through it. Too much current will burn out the LED. You were fine here because the batteries you used can't deliver a high current anyways. You were right that wiring LEDs in parallel means the rest will keep going if one burns out, but if the failing LED is now a short circuit no current will flow through the other LEDs (like water, current takes the path of least resistance). If it fails and becomes an open connection, there's now more current flowing through the other LEDs so they'll burn out faster too. The problem with powering the strips off a 9V isn't that the voltage isn't high enough, but that it can't deliver the required current. Picture a bucket of water: if you poke more holes in it the pressure of the water flowing out of the holes is reduced. You'll be fine with the big battery and the strips, they have current limiting resistors built in. None of these things should really prove to be a problem here because everything was so low power (so good choice of project for beginning in electronics I guess), but it's something to read up on if you ever do a bigger project. Also keep in mind that there can be a good reason for using higher voltages instead of higher currents: it's the current that causes the wires to heat up!

After bills vid on the sebacc dice I went to the Makerspace I work at and modeled em and printed em on one of our printers! I love y'alls work and will be lurking and learning and most of all enjoying all of the content you crazy people make x3. PS I'm so happy jazza is getting into the 3D printing world!! I have a feeling y'all might have had a small hand in that xD
