I love hating Margery's final look. Costumes shouldn't just be pretty they should help further the story. It's fitting with the religious fundemantalism that's taking over the capital that she should wear something shapeless and plain.

Absolutely! Very good point.

There's something else... The fact Cersei was dressed in black and Margaery "only" in grey was pretty symbolic to my mind.
@Costume_CO7 жыл бұрын
I think that Cersei wears black because she is in mourning and is dead inside, at least that's what Michele Clapton said. Why do you think Margaery wears grey?
@PhebusdesTours7 жыл бұрын
Because for once, she was one step behind Cersei. There's like a graduation, see? But it's my own interpretation.

I also thought because Tommen was younger and sweeter than Jeoff. She could play with Jeoff desire, but perhaps Tommen was mora like a child (at least until the wedding night) and she needed to aproach a more subtle path to him. Being a queen on the street and a Tyrell on the sheets

Margaery is one of my favorite chatacter, she's kinder than Cersei but more cunning than Sansa. I love her outfits, she had a lot of variety of gowns in the show. It's so sad to see her die, I'm gonna miss her on the show, ofcourse Natalie Dormer. Winter is here!

e batdorf House of Cards has great costumers, particularly on Claire Underwood. Many of the more important events in the show often rely on her picking an appropriate dress or look to emphasise a point or accommodate the events. Honestly, the costumes are important in GoT but House of Cards is sophisticated chic and cold.

I think Margaery's final look, reminiscent of Cersei's final gown was spot on. Margaery was shrewd and knew to trump Cersei she'd have to dress the part. I say "Well Done." It's not her "look," but she knows it. She dressed down to go along with the deception of her changed world view in "The Light of the Seven," and almost pulled off this ruse.
@standincub7 жыл бұрын
Lovely video! I can't wait to watch your other ones! I love love love Margaery and I loved how her style transitions. She was so clever in how she dresses, showing off her youth to spite Cersei and the cheeky little cut outs that were sexy to seduce Joffrey. The switch to more modest clothing after the wedding showed how calculate it all was. And the rose motif was so great, sometimes blatant sometimes subtle but it was clear she was a Tyrell first and foremost regardless of who she was married to.

She shared Anne's desire to be queen and she knew how to play the seductress but that's really as far as it goes. Anne seemed to have anger issues that she had trouble concealing, but Margaery portrayed a image of kindness. The people loved Margaery; they hated Anne.

To add to opinion of the last few costumes, they became high collared and closed off to symbolise people preparing for winter. It shows that the climate is becoming colder and the political climates requires more careful preparation. Furthermore the 'nun'-like gown mimics the style of the of religious folk which also mimics the style in the North at Winterfell in the first season. Showing that these costumes are connected to the relationships immediately surrounding the characters and the relationship to the world as a whole.

As far as I know from my little experience in costume design, one of the more practical reasons for the distinct colors for the Capulets and Montagues is so that the audience always has an easy method of delineating who belongs on which side. As for more symbolic reasons, I'm not the most versed. Otherwise, a very interesting video. I just found your channel and I already find it to be incredibly interesting. Since I'm planning on going into costume design, your in-depth analysis on the construction and the reasoning behind them is incredibly valuable to me. Keep up the good work!
@Costume_CO7 жыл бұрын
+Matthew Bradley I don't know if there is any symbolism, and like you said, it just makes it easy to tell them apart. I think the same goes for GOTs. With the colours, you sort of know what region you're in. Now that we're in season 7 however and everyone is coming together, the palette is more homogenous. Thank you so much for commenting. I always love hearing from aspiring costumers.

I was wondering if Margaery's character is inspired by Elizabeth (Lizzie) of York. Because in The White Queen, she said "So whatever happens in the battle, I will be queen" If richard Wins she'll be queen and if Henry wins she's bethroated to him. Catherine can be also the inspiration Of Margaery's character. She's been married to Arthur, after his sudden death, she been married to Henry, Arthur's younger brother. Just like Margaery marrying Tommen after Joffrey died.
@Costume_CO7 жыл бұрын
Oh, I'm sure George RR Martin was inspired by many historical figures including Elizabeth of York. We know that he used the Wars of the Roses and the Hundred Years War for the basis of GOTs. I was just speculating that I thought that Anne Neville matched up quite nicely. I haven't seen the series yet but I intend to watch it. :)

Rome Blanchard I'm pretty sure she, or at least the Tyrells, were inspired by Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon. Henry VIII family sigil/badge was a Tudor rose, almost the exact same as the Tyrell. When he and Catherine were married they combined the rose with Catherine's family sigil/badge the pomegranate in a very similar way to Magaerys crown.

@Costume_CO6 жыл бұрын
Hi Pamela, My understanding is that in the first season - before they knew that the show would be a hit - many of the costumes got taken apart and recycled into newer costumes. Now, all of the costumes are catalogued and stored. Many of the costumes, jewelry, and weapons travel and are exhibited in various tours. They is a new tour planned that is starting in Madrid, but there have been no announcements made when it will be going next. Once the show wraps after season 8, they might auction off the costumes, but I suspect they will keep the principal costumes for years to come.

+luhole Thank you for the feedback! I have tried to make improvements on the sound quality and my delivery. I hope you find my more recent videos satisfactory.

No worries! Thank you for taking it as constructive feedback and not criticism, because like I said it is a great video. I will be sure to check out your more recent ones! Congrats on an awesome channel and all your hard work :)

Hi Robert, I fixed the video on the Costumes of Crimson Peak, but I I had to take down the old video to make it so. Here is the new link: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/odyhlZCG36irYGg.html

Hi Frozen, I don't have a background in hair/wigs but if I learn anything, I will certainly include it in an upcoming video. Thanks so much for commenting!

Margery's s3 dress is it blue and black or white and gold

Which dress Elsa? It's a very hard thing, because depending on the lighting it looks different, but her dress from Sansa's wedding is a soft blue background (on the bodice) with gold embroidery.

Hello, have you done a video on favorite and least favorite costumes for the TV show The Tudors? I've never been a fan of what Natalie wears in this show. I honestly didn't like anything from the Tyrell's closet.

No I haven't done the Tudors yet. Still have it on the back burner. 😁

Although I haven't watched Game of Thrones myself I certainly know a fair amount about it. I too use clothing to express myself considerably. I actually have friends who can with reasonable accuracy identify what I'm feeling based solely upon what I am wearing.

By far the most beautiful female costumes from GoT are Margaerys. Sansa has some amazing ones but Margaerys are by far top notch 💕!

Gregorie Vincent Haha! I know, it's weird. The closed captioning can't pick up what I'm saying. I will blame my French Canadian mother. :)

Tbh I hated all of Margaery's costumes. It felt like no thought was put into any of them.

Hey Natalie, I'm working on a project of GOTs costumes and I was really surprised how close 5 of the costumes are to one another. 😁

I really love your studies of the costumes, I truly enjoy them, but here are my few problems with your quality of the videos: why does the audio sound so poorly in several parts of the video?? And also, sometimes I wonder if you even watch GOT, because of the way you butcher the pronunciation of names and phrases like "valar morghulis" (Also why don't you cut out your little slips of tongue? they're not so bad, but unfortunately distract from you great content!) This is no hate, I just think when the quality of your videos gets better we could enjoy them even more! :)

That burrito dress is one of the worst. Thank God they didn’t let Margaery wore that again.

Yes, it's lucky it was just for that one scene. I wonder if it will go on tour though? It will need it's own booth I think. :)

I didn't like how the funnel dress looked. But I felt like it told us a lot about who Margaery was, which is the point.
