I remember hearing them confess to the prank on radio 4, about April 1982, I think. They were too scared to tell Arthur Conan Doyle because he was so well-known.

@@AnnabelleJARankin I know. I like the stories too and I have a lot of films, series and games about the good old detective. BTW it's strange that Doyle fell for it, when his own creation, Sherlock Holmes NEVER would have believed that they was real

@@videomaster412 Actually he did and because he did the girls were too scared to say it was all done with cut-outs! I expect they are long-gone now, but I remember hearing one of them on something like Woman's Hour. They didn’t say there were no faeries.... Elsie said she THOUGHT it MIGHT have been her imagination... frances said that even though the photos were fake, there was most definitely faeries, and she also said all the photos were fake apart from the fifth and final picture.... it’s not that there are no faeries... people are just to afraid to even just try and believe in them. 🙄🙄

The girls didnt admit there were no fairies,they said the photos were fake,but that they did see fairies in the beck.One of the girls also said the meadow photo was real,the others fake.A wonderful bit of English history,and who deep down wouldnt want to wish they were real.
