Star War's main energy weapons, ignoring the more esoteric stuff, tend to have 3 different categories despite all 3 having the same functionality. despite the various names all of them seem to shoot small packets of tightly contained plasma. Blasters: Small arms-light autocannon range, from tiny derringer-like pistols to Ma Deuce equivalents like the E-web, some light vehicles mount blasters (AT-ST, etc) Laser Cannon: Main armament of ground vehicles and Starfighters, range from autocannon to tank cannon equivalents. tend to come in two flavors, light and heavy. the turrets on the Millennium Falcon and the guns of the TIE fighters are light laser cannons, the long guns on the end of the X-wing's wings and the main guns of the AT-ATs are heavy laser cannons. Turbolaser: main starship and heavy vehicle armament, range from heavy AAA equivalents to battleship main guns. are separated into light-medium-heavy-superheavy categories. The ISD is covered in hundreds of light and medium turbolasers, but the main armaments are the 64 heavy turbolasers in the eight octuple-mount turrets on the sides of the superstructure.

@@grimreapers The way I always had it in my head cannon from reading the “Legacy” era novels were that the “turbolasers” on the capital ships were analogous to a 76mm or 57mm modem turret. Mainly used for bombardment or attacking other ships, but not really meant for anti-star fighter defense (although if you got lucky, you could certainly take a star fighter down with one shot). But point defense were done with laser cannons, like the dual quad laser cannon turrets on the Millennium Falcon or on the Lancer-class cruisers. The laser cannons weren’t as powerful as the turbolasers, but were faster at tracking and more agile; more akin to 20mm point defense weapons from the WW2 era. And of course, none of them are lasers in the traditional sense; but more a charged plasma emission amplified by tibana gas.

@@jasperkalen7571 Correct, The TBLs had a hard time trying to follow the smaller starfighters which is why the Ties were needed for CAP/screen. But very little is mentioned about the quad laser sets for anti-starfigher role. IIRC, in the Xwing Series The Bacta War, they talk about the armament of an Imperial MKII and what would need to be stripped for Booster Terrik to have the ship privately. They mostly addressed the TBLs, Ions, and tractor beams.

Your best bet for attacking a star destroyer that we're gonna say doesn't have any tie fighters and non operational shields since you weren't intercepted and you the bombs hit the surface of the star destroyer, is to attack from the back, no guns can see you, just don't be level with the engines as they will vaporise anything that gets close, but the star destroyer is perfectly designed for frontal assault and flanking, so you need to attack from behind it to not get shot down immediately

interesting philosophical question: If they demand less ransom than a bomb/missile would cost (or London houses) to shoot them, would we try or just give in? how much is not negotiating with terrorists worth? Not to mention the fact that that MASSIVE thing would drop straight at the place we just "saved". I guess it doesn't matetr because nobody down there survived the bombs anyway. So after much evaluation: It probably makes sense.

Star Wars has both Lasers and Blasters, but what you are referring to are called Turbolasers. They are the main anti-ship armament in the Star Wars universe. You'll see these most prominently on Capital ships, whether they be the Republic Venator Class, the CIS Lucrehulk, the Imperial Star Destroyer, etc. Blasters are generally handheld weapons (guns) carried by individuals and troops, though iirc some ground vehicles have scaled up blasters as armament. Might've done better (lower casualties) with an ultra high altitude dive bombing run to put more bombs into the same spot instead of super long bomb lines. They're built for the upper atmosphere missions, so using them that way would've helped keep out of range yet get a solid bombing strafe.

there's also the problem that star destroyers have an engagement range of at least 75km and possibly up to 135km, it can reach speeds of over 900kmh so if they were to drop bombs within firing range they'd prob get shot down and if outside it it could move out of the way

Loved the video @Grim Reapers! Can't wait for the next video man! From what I can tell each B-1 Lancer is $317 Million American Dollars, and you've lost about 20. So you've cost the U.S. Military about $6,340,000,000 USD. This isn't taking into account the 2 F-14D Tomcats that you've lost as well as all the Bombs that you've loaded and lost on this mission as well. All in all, quite the "Smashing" hit.

I believe that the point defense cannons on the Star Destroyer would be able to reach the bombers even at 20,000 feet and would probably shoot all the bombers down before they could release their bombs. I also am skeptical that the amount of bombs used would be enough to take it down (even if they all hit) as you would first have to take down the shields, and there is a good chance the shield systems on the ship could take most if not all of those bombs before going down. The ship would probably escape relatively unscathed even if all the bombs hit. There is also a chance that the MiGs would have been shot down before they could release their bombs. However, I think one or two direct hits from a nuke could probably one-shot a star destroyer even with shields up.

What if the shields are only designed to stop energy weapons. Remember the fighters routinely fly below shield level on Star Destroyers.
@opencirclefleet
@opencirclefleet Жыл бұрын
@@theoneneo5024 Ships in Star Wars have three types of shields. Ray shields to stop energy weapons, particle shields to stop physical projectiles, and navigational shields to stop radiation and asteroids. The reason starfighters can fly below shields is that they are moving slow enough that the particle shields can't stop them. The bombs were moving at supersonic speeds, which is most likely too fast to go through the particle shields.

I’ve actually sat in a imitation spot on a Taxiway and watched as a similar size group of B-1’s took off. My favorite was after spending 72 hours preparing and loading the aircraft with fuel and a full load of bombs. It took a lot of runway for it to get in the air. The wings drooped down and then lifted up right before it broke ground. The pilots tipped their wings as they past the parking spot on the ramp as a Thanks. Said aircraft took a 6 mo. summer getaway

If this thing was over London with hostile intent there would be 30 Typhoons each one armed with 4 Storm Shadow cruise missiles with nearly 400km stand off range. That’s 120 cruise missiles in all. The U.K. has around 800 of these missile. In addition, land based air defence systems like Land Ceptor, Starstreak and Royal Navy’s Type 45s Sea Vipers missiles would be more than sufficient In neutralising the invader. By comparison to send large strategic bombers with dumb bombs literally flying over a target within range of the hostile’s weapons, so as to drop said dumb bombs, makes this scenario complete cobblers.

Killing a starship of that scale in-atmo over any remotely populated area is a pure bad idea; they're powered by small suns. This fact should give a scale of how insane the power scaling in star wars is anyway, and why ANY scenario crossing it over with real life is "complete cobblers" anyway.

Dangit, Cap. If you're going to turn your engine off, that makes you a projectile. The bomb you release is also a projectile. Want to release it directly over the ISD? Fine. Aim your plane at the ISD!!! The bomb has your velocity when you release it. It doesn't fall directly down unless your velocity is directly down. If you point your plane off target and release, you're effectively throwing the bomb in that direction. It's not that complicated

In the SR-71 lighting the afterburner requires an ignition charge, and the aircraft only carries a finite number. There’s a counter just aft of the throttle showing how many are left for each engine. In a typical mission they’d fly in economical cruise without the afterburner, and then ignite it as they approached dangerous territory so that by they time they’re in range of a potential interception they’d be well into Mach 3. I’ve ever seen the inside of a B1, so no idea if they use a similar method.

I just gotta put it out there; if this were real to star wars lore, the ISD-II that we see here actually carries *zero* point defense, and the octuple barbette turbolasers we see on it here are too slow to track fighters unless theyre flying straight and level. Remember; an X wing has an atmospheric speed of 1000kph, which isnt supersonic, and we see fighters tangle with star destroyers in atmosphere quite a bit. What i'd be worried about is the TIE screen of 72 fighters, but other than that, an ISD-II shouldn't be an issue for modern strike fighters to get near. wether the shields block nukes is another story altogether

realistically the bones will all be in their hangers sounding like a 76 Buick failing to turn over, while mechanics are outside the Bone kicking the side of the engines hoping that will work to get them to spin up. After 45 minutes the pilots throw their hands up in frustration as the mechanics are spotted sifting through spare parts from the three cannibalized Bones sitting in the corner. Empire wins although 37 of their TIE fighters crash due to random bird strikes, one from pilot error and a few because a boy with a sling shot got a few lucky shots in. In the end At-Ats were deployed for the ground campaign but failed to be able to turn around on the narrow London streets and the Storm troopers were reprimanded for goofing around on the London Eye.
