Even as a Liverpool fan I'm uncomfortable with the arrogance of our fanbase that somehow Xabi will drop BL at a heartbeat to Liverpool, the Bundesliga and Europa League will define that but Reds need to rein it in a tad, nothing in life is guaranteed.

It is not arrogance. It is nostalgia. And can you blame the fanbase? Klopp is very much loved and to lose our generation Shankly.....people are running around like headless chicken.... And if you had been following Xabi...you know that Liverpool media outlet had always been in touch with Xabi. Xabi was adored and loved by thr fanbase. Xabi was sold under Hicks....and he did not even want to leave in the first place.....Rafa wanted to replace him with Garth Barry.....because the club under Hicks...had no money for transfer....and Rafa need to strengthen the squad. The deal fell through and RM came.calling and Xabi told Rafa he got his wish...Xabi will leave.... .

What really scary (or awesome depending on how you look at it) was that Leverkusen weren't even at full strength. Frimpong didn't come in till the last minutes.... Boniface was out injured, Palacios was on the bench... Arguably Leverkusen beat Bayern without fielding their strongest 11.

@highnoon7097
@highnoon7097 6 ай бұрын
Finally! Rapha Honigstein breaking up this cringey fangirling over Kane. The Athletic's podcasts have been fawning over Kane all season, which is fine, but it's baffling that after a 3-0 thumping to the hands of Leverkusen they for some reason find another opportunity to go on about how brilliant he is. The truth is they've just lost the biggest game of their season and yet again Kane reverted to type and disappeared. As Rapha says, he wasn't bought to score against Heidenheim, they already had enough firepower for 95 percent of their fixtures this season. An elite player is supposed to step up in the big ocassions but Kane has fluffed his lines in what is most likely to be their biggest domestic game of the entire season. I fully expect a similarly anonymous performances in the other two huge games he has on the horizon. The first vanishing act will be the big knockout game in the Champions League when they come up against a Madrid, City etc. The second will be when England need him to move his arthiritic legs with a modicum of urgency in the knockouts at the Euro. I'm just baffled that the media cloy over this player despite him never performing in these winner takes all situations.

He's a very good striker, just not a great one. He's had to work really, really hard to get to where he is from a lower base (no one thought he'd be this good when he was coming through) and this appears to be his ceiling - the absolute top end of a top league, CL and late stage international comps. Still a fantastic player. Probably left it too late to go to a top side - given all the steps up he's made over his career, there's a chance he'd still have made another if he'd gone to a top side in his prime. The very best can play badly, appear missing, get little service with the team not playing well, and still create moments on their own and score against top sides. It's perfectly reasonable for the English to fawn over him - he's their best striker currently, captain of the national side etc and he *is* doing really well this season individually. If Leverkusen weren't playing a blinder this season, Bayern would win the league and Kane would be the deciding factor. Lewandowski got plaudits for doing the same. It's reasonable to acknowledge Kane's apparent limitations, but it's not reasonable to do him down baselessly. The thing he misses most is pace, imo, and that's not really down to him as that's not something he can improve.

@HEADIE1 1. Klopp had 14 years experience and actually coached a team to a CL final as well as back to back titles against a stronger Bayern Munich and won one title with Guardiola there. Alonso has 15 months experience in a much less competitive and yes weaker league. Luton very nearly beat us, MC dropped points against Brentford. Our league is the toughest by far. 2. Gerrard did a great job in his first full season at Rangers. Never lost a league game and topped their Europa League group which was a huge achievement for a team like them. As it stands Alonso has won nothing. Had Gerrard stayed at Rangers and continued that record he'd have been the next Liverpool manager no doubt about it because he has so many fan boys. And that's scary. It's too soon which is why Lijnders should come in. If he's good happy days, if he isn't at least we'll know whether Alonso is a flash in the pan. 3.Pep has been at Liverpool longer than Klopp, Klopp recently said Pep was "the most important person at this club this past 10 years". Buvak walked away in a huff because Klopp rated Pep so highly and gave him more to do. At NEC he was given false promises about signings and where the club was going, Klopp himself said he would have done no better. And you're saying he'd struggle with the Paisley comparisons but don't mention the fact a dull Spaniard with no personality would have to follow the most charismatic manager in football! Pep has been the main reason we've seen these academy players thrive along with Matos. And he's often the one spotting issues in matches and advising Klopp, same with subs. There would be continuity and no upheaval, he knows everything about everyone there. 4. Rafa wasn't following a huge character like Klopp. I go to every home game (and some away). At times Klopp is screaming at the main stand to liven up and when they do you see the players lift their game, then there's the fist pumps, sometimes after a dull game or dull crowd, when we win he does it to galvanise us. Unless we are battering teams the crowd is quiet for league games and loads leave early. It's especially bad in the main and Dalglish stands. Without Klopp it will be much worse and that's a huge fear for me. You have your opinion and I have mine clearly and there's nothing wrong with that. But as someone who does spend a lot of money watching the team I do feel strongly about this and speaking to people at the match and even some of the stewards, nobody seems that confident about Alonso and quite a lot of my friends and workmates agree with me about Pep. I think we'll have to agree to disagree.

I pegged Xabi as a coach as a player, he’s intelligent and a student of the game, he’s adaptable and played different systems with Bayer and Sociedad B. I think he is the next super coach. Gerrard was dependent on someone else doing the coaching Xabi is a coach. And as much as Klopp is fantastic and charismatic he’s won 1 title, whereas a dull Spaniard won the league every other season….. Maybe controlling and winning football matches over pumping up the crowd is needed.

Yeh it's interesting with Pep, you have to think the board at least asked him. He's been around for 10 years so maybe he just wants a change of scene to quietly progress as a first team coach. He is the most rational candidate and for me has already proven himself. He come accross well in press conferences and is clearly one of the tactical brains already at Liverpool. Fair enough though maybe Pep is one for the future. Also as to your comments about Klopp. Unless you want Mourhino I don't see another manager available thay brings the same stadium buy-in. I'll always love Rafa and think he did the best with the circumstances he was afforded. Maybe Alonso is more of a Rafa type and that's OK. Less of a front line leader more a tactical mastermind. We have to accept it will be a different vibe whoever gets it. That said Rafa could be hilarious when he wanted to be, Alonso hasn't exhibited that same wit that I have seen. Awesome player though and I do think he was always gonna be a better coach then Gerrard.

100% agree. @somebodyelseuk Yes there are a few inconsistencies. Billy Hogan was with the team during pre season so FSG knew long before November Klopp wanted out, he wanted out last season but was talked out of it apparently, and the documentary has been filming since the start of the season, another lie as the press were fed stories that various companies were fighting for the rights when filming has long been underway. I said this on another page that a steward told me a film crew were on his list months ago to allow into the ground. Then Klopp and Van Dijk released statements with Klopp saying he only told the players 2 or 3 Friday's ago, again a lie. This is what makes me think Klopp wants the truth to come out, there's no way him and Pep wouldn't make sure their stories were the same. Although someone at Kirkby was saying Klopp and Pep have had a fall out and if you look at the recent training photos, Klopp and Pete are standing together with Pep and Matos away from them which is unusual. So who knows what's gone on? As you say we probably need a bio!

Nothing to do with the clubs, both are massive with Bayern arguably being a bigger draw as a club due to their consistent success. More so I’m talking about the leagues… so much of the money and attention seems to be focused on the prem at the moment.

Both huge and like you say the chance of silverware far greater at Bayern. Liverpool are a bigger global club and generally you will get more time to implement your style of play. I'd be surprised if he chose Bayern if Liverpool is on the table.

@@L3wisx4 I don’t know if we’re a bigger global club, I'd imagine it’d be pretty close regardless, but Bayern do seem to treat managers far closer to Madrid as was stated in the video. Hard to see anyone staying there long. Maybe that’s what Xabi wants though? He certainly wasn’t shy about moving around during his playing career. Hope we get him though?

He'd be better off staying in Germany. He isn't the man to follow Klopp. Wrong man at the wrong time.

Any potential manager who is afraid to follow Klopp to manage a Liverpool club that he will leave in good shape AND a one now has a sustainable business model and a winning culture is not worth considering.

He wants to win a league so he's going to play it safe and go to a dead cert in celtic. Hibs will then win the league.

Makes no sense to go when he could win the whole thing with Leverkusen. What would managing Bayern Munich do that he didn’t already do with Leverkusen. His work there far exceeds what he could get from Bayern.

@Ryan-ys2bq One title? 😂😂😂😂 He won 2 in Germany along with 3 other trophies and was up against Spendiola there too. He's won every trophy at Liverpool and won the CL here before the bald cheater. Liverpool were 10th when he took over, Dortmund were 13th. Wouldn't have swapped him for any other manager. Pep too scared to take tough jobs. And Alonso and his boring persona can stay put.
