Petr Čech is a former professional footballer, regarded as one of the greatest Premier League goalkeepers of all time. During his 20-year career he played for Arsenal, Chelsea and for the Czech Republic national team. This episode is a deep dive into Petr’s illustrious career and the drive behind his unwavering consistency.

🚨 WHOOP: join.whoop.com/en-uk/HPP
Jake, Damian and Petr discuss the concept of commitment and how daily improvement and learning are essential components of his routine. He reveals the steps he takes to ensure consistent peak performance, whilst highlighting that performance should not be solely measured by outcomes.
They explore Petr’s early days at Chelsea and his unique perspective on working with legendary manager Jose Mourinho. Petr provides insight into the intense training culture Mourinho instilled, making training emulate game days through rigorous repetition. Reflecting on the importance of fostering a honest culture within a team, Petr shares how this allows individuals to openly share their struggles. He also opens up about the near-fatal incident on the football pitch, recounting the moment he realised something was wrong.
Petr delves into his experience navigating managerial changes at Chelsea and how he successfully dealt with change. He reflects on his relationship with Arsène Wenger and the profound impact it had on his career. This episode explores resilience, commitment, and triumphing over challenges.

Not football related but I'm also an ice hockey fan and when Cech signed for Belfast Giants, it was such a big moment for my club and for myself seeing a goalkeeper I idolised (despite being a Man United fan) sign for our small ice hockey team

Why hasn't anyone made a series of programs with Cech about the art of goalkeeping? And also about training? At least discuss with Cech the techniques and personal advantages of various outstanding goalkeepers. Gather outstanding goalkeepers and make a series of passes. Tell us about the art of goalkeeping and psychological preparation. Football is an international game, which is why it is very important now. Football should unite peoples, despite politics.

Petr talking about the training sessions and how high the intensity levels were is exactly the reason why the current Chelsea squad is where it is... the current squad needs to knuckle down and work hard and compete in training to bring it into the pitch. They can only get better if each player brings their highest intensity into training every day

Very intelligent guy. He could see the writing on the wall with the new owners and how many players they wanted to recruit in such a short space of time so decided to leave. The fact there looking to offload Conor Gallagher is just one example that the people at the top have no idea of a top player.

Chelsea people always exaggerate that team and their achievements. Barca weren't the best in the World that season Real Madrid were a better team won LaLiga and Chelsea were lucky to avoid them as they were in general so lucky to avoid Cristiano for 12 straight seasons when he'd only just become unplayable the last few times he played Chelsea before he went to Real Madrid and Bayern CERTAINLY weren't the best in the World and I knew they'd bottle it and that Chelsea just had their name on the trophy with how everything went before then. How many best in the World teams lose 5-2 in a cup final which was literally what Bayern had done just a few days earlier and they were trophyless. Also let's not forget Barca weren't 2-0 up they were half of 1 goal up on aggregate for an extremely short period of that match like 1 minute and then Chelsea undeservedly went back in front on aggregate due to lucky 1-0 home win somehow no away goal conceded when they conceded a million chances wasn't good defending on another day lose 0-4 easily another indicator that Chelsea avoided teams with killer instict that season Chelsea against the run of play had the aggregate lead in 2nd leg just before Half-time just like they did in the first leg and the away goal rule & other luck played a huge part in them progressing although they didn't technically win on away goals in the end due to Barca having everyone forward towards the end still losing by away goal rule and Cashley just desperately clearing the ball which turned out to create an assist.

As much as I understand your point, maybe it's better for everyone to show this devotion to their team. Every team is special, and we will always celebrate our team’s uniqueness, no matter how small their achievements may seem.
