That's their "Sport Utility" version. It's a "3/4 axe" size. Their sport utility line is undeniably the best bang for the buck axes on the market. You can spend more money on an axe, but you ain't gonna get that much more axe. It's a Spanish design that was brought over by European trappers a few hundred years ago.

I think I found my next camp axe. Thanks. I've been looking around for one that isn't to expensive, but is still of good quality. I see them go for like around the $60 range on my sites. Pretty good prices for such a good axe.

I recently bought one of these in the UK. The version available in he UK is different to the US version, the handle was wedged with a stepped aluminium wedge nd there was gapping. However putting that aside the axe was sharp out of the box; the handle is sublime and when compared to a Gransfors Bruks I had access to a few years ago this is far better. Also in similar weight length categories I have Hultafors Agdor and CS Trailboss. The council tool is better by far at every task. I've used it to buck 6 inch beech logs as well as smaller splitting and kindling jobs. Quite a remarkable ae and I was so upset that I had to rehang it. But I have and now it's back in service once more

Just got my CTHBA yesterday and could NOT be happier for the money spent! It measured in at 26.25" overall! Will be ordering mask and guard shortly. Thanks again! I still wish you'd talk to your dad about making a throat guard for their Saddle Axe to match the Weaver mask!

Your sheaths are just exquisite, almost to the point where I would hate to use them. And I man that is the most positive way lol. I'm learning to dislike the functionality of brown sheaths becasue I have a tendency to loose them. Those shiny rivets help that situation a lot.

Where else can you get a decent 28" handle other than council tool, I looked at House Handle , but not sure if their measurements for the head are correct. 2 3/8" by 5/8? Thanks

Eugene! The 18" CTHBA arrived today and while I was actually hoping for it to be the original style I can adapt to what is obviously an update to a classic design. With the increased amount of purchase on the handle it will need an updated sheath as well. Would my sending you a few tracings and measurements suffice(as you will most surely have to update your current design to apply to the new product)? Please advise. Your friend and loyal customer, Bill Doyle in Hewitt,NJ

Eugene! I was SO happy with my 26" CTHBA that I am buying one of their 18" versions (old style) as well! Will the sheath and collar for the longer version likewise fit the shorter version seeing as how it is the same 2# head? Please advise. Bill Doyle in Hewitt, NJ! BTW- thanks SO MUCH for helping me get the right fit on the sheath for my 26" Husqvarna sheath! You guys are the best!

Does your axe handle/collar for this axe fit flush to the flat underside of the head on this axe(28" Council Tools Hudson Bay Axe) or is it curved like in the picture of said product on Amazon? I ask as I have them on both my 13" Husqvarna hatchet and 19" Husqvarna Carpenter's Axe which have curved lower cheeks which require such a curved profile. BTW- I love them both! Please advise.
@ReviewOutdoorGear
@ReviewOutdoorGear 3 жыл бұрын
Each handle guard is custom for for each ace/hatchet, so yes, the handle guard is flat to be flush against the axe head.

Great review… Is the 28” a typo? I’m only seeing a 24” in the 2lb Hudson Bay. Thanks!!
@matthewdemartin791
@matthewdemartin791 Жыл бұрын
Not a typo. Council Tool has a "new and improved" version of their Hudson Bay axes available in 18" and 24". The pattern in this video is their old version which came with a 28" handle. I was able to purchase the old version at Omaha Knives.

I'm wondering how that axe compares and contrast to its sibling, the Woodcraft... To me it looks a little thicker. I think you would've been breathing less heavily with a GB Of the same size, which is the Scandinavian Forest I would assume.

If you chop through the mask. Is that really a thing? I imagine you'd have to be pretty drunk to do that. Maybe that's where the old saying blind drunk comes from. LOL. You guys do make a nice looking mask though and that would be a handy axe. The Cold Steel Trail Boss is about that size and it's a great limbing axe and works good for leg sized trees.
