Really like the honest talk. You did the right thing by bringing it up to him. It’s really frustrating dealing with people who can’t take advice. We all know how kind you are, I really don’t think there is a better person to give it. Intentions are everything. You meant well, and that’s what really matters. Unfortunately some people just can’t see past their ego. The fact that he watches your videos and still got mad is ridiculous. You’re as much of a part of our community as anyone. Thanks for being you.

First off you are not to new to using an axe to have developed some bonified skills. Experience comes to some people slowly. If I knew as much 30 years ago about axes and chainsaws as I do today t would have made a huge difference in the work I've done with those tools over the years. The difference in what i know today and what I knew back then is huge. The problem with KZfaq is that there are too many people who are just sitting out there waiting to trash somebody and it's possible that the creators of the video are easily getting super sensitive about anything that looks like any sort of unjust criticism. Anyhow, keep up the good work and thanks for responding to my questions about comparing different axes. I just subscribed.

You were definitely not out of line with what you said to the guy about being safer with his axe. Some people just don't take constructive criticism well & like you said he will have to learn the hardway probably (hopefully doesn't get to hurt in the process) But at least you tried to help. But I will say one thing. This video is the whole reason I subscribed to you. I think you are an incredible person and seem very humble. I like that! I unfortunately will probably never be able to own a good axe or decent axe, cause i moved from chicago to Kentucky so i could take care of my mother cause she is sick. But i still get out and chop with this old china made hatchet (p.o.s crap) Anyway Keep up the great videos, i love what you do and the chill vibes & knowledge you bring to KZfaq axe community! Stay humble 😌 and thank you again.

Bloody YT! 76th and 12 hours late😆. Cool vid mate and I don't mind the ramble at all, it's cool following along your journey. It can be hard to approach someone with advice and just as hard to take it, I reckon yours came from a good place though, if old mate didn't want to accept it then at least you tried. On to axes...good job modding and testing the WC with the longer handle, a bit more "apples to apples".Accurate notching especially considering the small bits on those axes. Astute thoughts on the handle curve issue. The Brades boys axe is indeed highly desirable and a great example of axe design- pretty much the ideal imo- and will be an absolute killer cordwood axe on that French curve. Lastly good job shouting out Brett- a genuine and generous bloke. Good stuff!

Thank you so much Kurt !! Haha yeah man KZfaq does that to me all the time, I’ll get the notification that someone posted and I click on it and it’ll say that one was posted hours ago 😂. Yeah man as far as the advice situation, I just genuinely didn’t want to see the guy get hurt and thought hey people have reached out to me and helped me maybe I can help this guy. You know kind of like pass on the knowledge. (Axes) yeah the curve handle on the light head seems to be slightly more effective and a bit more comfortable. When I used the vintage axe hoarders 3.5 lb straight handle axe it was very effective, but I do think head weight helped compensate for that whip you get from that curve handle. Where as the lighter axe definitely benefits from that little extra snap!! Yeah man Brett truly is an awesome dude I’d love to meet him and the rest of you guys in person. I’m really happy I got involved in this because I feel like we’re not just random people that watch each others videos, I feel like I’m build a life long friendship with all of you guys and it’s awesome !! The brades axe geometry looks like it’s going to be a killer man !! It has a bit of a higher centerline than my woodslasher and I think with the right angle in the cheeks and the little extra weight it’ll have no problem being the go to axe !!

@skipper9400 I also bought a Council Tools Pack Axe, and have modified it to suit my needs...I did convex the edge, getting rid of the stupid scandi edge....IMHO it has no place on an axe...I have knives to carve with if I need to, however I rarely do that because I ALWAYS carry Jute twine, and Fatwood...cut the twine is 3 inch segments, break it down to fluff, and it will catch fire from any spark instantly, and if you have some shavings of dry wood, you're good to go....fatwood lights easier offa the jute and burns longer than plain shavings, and that's why I use them....I'm 76 years young now, and easier is better LOL.....I also ordered a Boys Axe handle, (they share the same Eye Size), and re-hafted the Pack axe with it, as the 23" handle it came with was too short....the 28" handle made all the difference in the world with the axe, as it is now a VERY good small firewood-camp wood splitter, and the extra 4" of handle is carried just as easily in a pack as the 24" handle...the difference in length is negligible, packing it, and you can always choke up on the handle, but you cannot lengthen it.....and it's a LOT safer splitting with it now, no need to get on your knees if you have a splitting block to put the wood on to split...all in all it's truely a great axe now, and I've had Granfors brux and all the rest...this is the best packing axe that I know of.....the other thing I would say to all who want to go play in the woods, is just this: TAKE A FOLDING SAW !! and here's why...cutting thru DRY wood for fire making, (or any reason), is just dumb unless you HAVE to, as that is a very good way to roll or chip even a good axe's edge, and there are plenty of good folding saws out there , I carry, (and love), a Corona RS 7245.........OnWard.........

Heck yeah !!! Awesome comment, thank you so much for watching! I totally agree the little extra length is really nice on this axe and it isn’t anymore taking to carry. The woodcraft pack axe is by far the absolute best bushcraft, woodcraft, packable what ever you want to call it axe I’ve ever used. The best on the market today by far !! I use this axe wayyyy more than the gransfors or the Hults bruk !! They are nice axe don’t get me wrong but the council tool in my opinion is just way better in every aspect, price point, quality of steel, features on the axe, and the sheath, it truly is the best option no matter how you look at it. It also splits much better when it comes down to it vs the Swedish ones as well. I also made my edge a little more convex as well. Glad to hear your love your pack axe, thank you so much again for watching im glad you enjoyed the video. If you have time check out the first review on this axe I did with the stock length handle vs the Husqvarna !!

Giving advice is something we all want to be able to do, it's just rarely received well. Let people learn at their own pace and provide information when approached (if you can). A reminder to everyone, people don't need to be the best, they just want to enjoy whatever it is they're doing. it's very difficult not to be 'that guy' when you're passionate about whatever it is you're doing and wanting to help others with their work too. I know i'm definitely guilty of this for sure

I agree man, I guess looking back I should have just held my tongue. I suppose I was just looking from my perspective when I was very new a lot of people reached out and gave great advice and also pointed out what I should avoid. I genuinely didn’t want to see the guy get hurt. I definitely didn’t want to kill anyone’s spirit, I’m sure he was having the time of his life out in the woods and that awesome, I just don’t think people realize how dangerous these tools are. I guess I’ll just put tips and advice in my videos and if people want to listen to the advice after watching that’s up to them.

Good fix on the axe. I find I need to rehang a lot of CT axes. Every one I’ve needed to rehang has had a bad shelf. A few have had really anemic wedges. Chamfering has fixed all mine with the shelf. I really like CT and just deal with the rehangs. It’s become a standard practice of mine when I get a new one to rehang and tune up the head.

Thank you man !! I totally agree, I do absolutely love council tool axes, the factory hangs no the best. At the price point and the quality of the axe head itself I try not to get too mad. Your pretty fair on chopping , but the axe is working you , with experience you'll learn to work the axe , you can strike where you need to . When I was a child my grandfather measured, my arms , made me a second growth hickory handle for my double bit hunting axe . Squirrel and coon hunting, lots of times id be up in the tree chopping the critters out . Liked to sit on a limb and wrap legs around the tree . Grandpas family worked in timber basically all their lives

@@940joey2 Integrating an explanation into an other video would be OK. But, I think axe care & short vs long term storage merits a stand alone video. It's a topic I've not really seen in the axe community. A few additional related topics might also be helpful. No Facebook. I'm a retired school teacher. As such, I always viewed FB as an Easily Avoided Occupational Hazard. I've considered it in retirement but I've not much interest in teaching an Old Dog a New Trick. I've an axe from my Father-in-Law that I think was his father's. It was stored inside a 3-sided shed for decades. (approaching 100yrs old?) The handle was bowed in the direction of the lean. I'm in the process of restoring it & an other axe of his.

@@940joey2 I think it's intended Target was people who would pack it out so that's why they have them on shorter handles. I bought mine for bike packing and or overnight rafting trips. @@940joey2the camp Carver is a lot better suited for what I needed. I agree that the pack axe would be better on a longer handle. I guess you have to make compromises sometimes to make things more packable but I think I would rather have a hatchet or even a saddle axe and then if I really needed it like in the winter just bring a boys axe. I prefer a longer handle being 6'2 so that might be it as well. I really love the pack axe head though. I think I might rehang mine as well.
