China’s foreign policy is mainly conditioned by three factors, China-US strategic competition, the trend of counter-globalization, and digital technology progress. The Chinese decision makers know that the major strategic obstacle to China’s rise is the containment strategy adopted by Washington. The popular understanding is that it is impossible for China to achieve the goal of national rejuvenation if it cannot overcome Washington’s containment. The Chinese government is fully aware of the differences between the current trend of counter-globalization and the globalization during the post-Cold War, as well as the US-Soviet rivalry during the Cold War. Thus, Beijing continues the principle of opening-up, which was initiated in 1978, to improve international cooperation and to prevent a new Cold War from occurring. Policy makers in Beijing deeply understands that the specialty of present competition between major powers is greatly defined by digital technology innovation. Therefore, they put importance to improving digital cooperation with as many countries as possible, especially through BRI digital projects, and oppose the Cold War mentality of organizing technology clubs according to ideology.
YAN Xuetong is a distinguished professor of Tsinghua University. He is serving as the Dean of The Institute of International Relations at Tsinghua University. He has been listed in Most Cited Chinese Researchers by Elsevier since 2014. Some of his books have been translated into English, Japanese, Korean, Farsi or Albanian.
Dr. Viktor Eszterhai, Research Fellow at John Lukacs Institute for Strategy and Politics, the Ludovika University Of Public Service, will join the discussion.
The event will be moderated by Dr. Eric Hendriks, Visiting Fellow at the Danube Institute.

When a speaker speaks, I dont get distracted by his overall presentation. In fact, I placed more attention by his understanding of the subject matter and by the materials he used to convey his message to his audience. He is able to do both as I have already had some basic knowledge on the subject matter and it's a matter of having a deeper understanding after listening to this professor. For someone who hardly need to use his 2nd language, I consider him being very accommodative to accept the Institute's invitation! Thanks Professor, for allowing me to understand China much better.

A tangential point, I believe the term 'Globalisation/Anti-globalisation' is often used erroneously, especially by classicists, who's perspective is better described as anti-universalism. It bemuses me that much of humanity moved from polytheism, to monotheism, a move towards a single harmonious position, yet now academic revelations have, & are, showing us the true universal answers, classicism is now attempting to move away from the singular, because their traditional explanations do not conform with discovery. The truth is more fundamental to sustainability than belief. Onwards & Forwards.

Cold war has & will bring initiator to its knees. It serve no purpose but serving as assertive methods for supremacy taking the place of hot war ( replacing hot war -- it is also destructive in nature ). Cold war is very much attached to US foreign policy. As cold war amphesized more on phycological wellbeing shaped anxieties, apprehensions, emotional response on the opponent in the form of mental warfare that could translated into actions to neutralise the effects therefore each responses will lead to another level of responses by another until either one worn off. It is utterly wastage. This is the reason the resources of a country goes to waste though without any concrete results. It is an assertions of supremacy. Thats how a lot of money wasted for this & its achive nothing, it is just brandishment of supremacy. In its worst case it could excercebate into much serious situations or hot war ( a cold war with Russia eventually turned to Hot war - no one ever learn ). If US detach themself from cold war, there are so much time & resources they would be able to focus & strengthen USA but they seem to enjoy cold war in assertion of supremacy. Actually, from what you see today, an assertions to no where but self destructions. US just simply focus elsewhere or others but not on their own wellbeing & often in conflict & confrontations. Indeed, todays world's conditions is actually resulted from these faulty cold war. Todate, those days cold war with Soviet, has US achieve anythings ?. Today, Russia is much more powerful whereas US saddled with debts ridden & economic problems at home. Power & strength, shaped partly by NATO while Russia is alone. So, what sort of supremacy are we talking about. So, what Cold war did to US spoke for itselt. Has the cold war strengthen USA ? Just ask this simple question. Has US achieve anythings thus far ?. Is it merely benefiting or in fulfillment the wishes of political minions ?. Infact , The cold war & Economic war initiated by the west with Russia unfortunately revealing the true weaknesses of the West. Considering, if the West had adopted a much modest civilised & practical strategic approaches , the true strength or weakness of the West will still be unknown to others even they're not. This is actually a strength. But for now, it has revealed its true color. In the world relationship, your weaknesses will be translated accordingly. In comparison, taking into consideration of various aspects, in the eyes of Russia, NATO is much weaker then before the break out of Ukraine war. The worst is, the EU itself are saddle with European malaise & this is weaknesses. The biggest challenge & danger to the world now is, hitherto, ' the West manages its weaknesses ( the supposedly strong state living up to its image ). Will the hell break loose ?. For better world Bang

China thinks as a country and as a people. US hegemony is foreign as well as domestic. Since its inception the US has been a class society captured by the elites. The elites have the power to think for only themselves and not for the country or the people. The US never had such a thing as true democracy whereas China actually does, written in its Constitution-Socialism, Power Belongs to the People, Democracy, Minority Rights on its first page. The brilliant book Propaganda by Edward Bernays was published in 1928. Chapter One opening paragraph: The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country. Our minds are molded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested, largely by men we have never heard of.

'Rules Based Orders' and International 'Laws' can change when it's against their Weaknesses but it's different when other Countries rise above or do better; they cannot do the same. Just like America can supply Weapons to Israel for Genocide but it's not right for China to support Russia in anyway. But what they do not know is, there are other Countries on the rise .... this means Western Countries is not only Competing with China but Countries like India, Brazil, Africa .. which have combine popuationof more than 4.6 Billion against 370 million.

Although the substance of the talk has many good points, Yan Xuetong's public speaking has unintendedly created a negative attitude toward China due to unprofessional public speaking. 1)Complaining tone of voice instead of confident speaking. 2) Arrogant manner, body language, the neck-tie when sitting, the manner in drinking water, etc. are unprofessional. 3) Lack of proper preparation between microphone and power points. 4) Insufficient spoken English in grammar and pronunciation i.e. Trump, not Tramp. 5) Lack of organization when it's too long and detailed, making key points unclear. 6) Let the audience know that the word "outer" is equivalent to "foreign" in the Western world. 7) Learn to use a proper word as in academics i.e. the word 'clever' has a negative connotation. Quality is essential if China aims to be accepted and respected in the United States.
