Dr. Jasmine Abdulcadir opened the first outpatient clinic for women and girls who have undergone Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting in Geneva. Reconstruction is not always the solution to this traumatic experience. Dr. Jasmine Abdulcadir’s first objective is to debunk myths, taboos and misconceptions around female sexuality, which can empower women in making informed decisions.
Dr. Jasmine Abdulcadir is an obstetrician and gynecologist. She is responsible for the outpatient clinic for women and girls living with FGM/C of the Geneva University Hospitals, which provides health education, prevention, counseling, culturally sensitive surgical and psychosexual care. Thank you Doctor for helping women who have been subjected to this deeply sick and anti-woman act. I just finished watching "Honor Diaries" where it was mentioned that a one-year old girl did of infection after FGM. I consider myself pretty tough, but that brought tears to my eyes. I hope I will live to see the day where this barbarity is banned and perpetrators appropriately punished.

Very informative talk. I'm not a Muslim, but I have a question here. Why on earth is FGM even practiced? Why do we humans don't understand that just like technology, even rituals and customs can become obsolete?

@@captaineveryman6589 Well there's obviously some culturel pressure when many women in the West want to shorten their labia and many women in some parts of Afrika want to stretch them to make them longer! But you are on to the right idea, it's about informed consent, the choice. Most men in USA are denied that choice and have their genitalia shaped to fit their culture as some women did not too long ago. Even in other western countries, parents are still allowed to do this even if most choose not to, so in that sense the developing world is further ahead at tackling their harmful non censensual cultural practices than the West.
