That looks delicious! I have not had whole bone in catfish in a long time. That is almost exactly like my Mom cooked them. As you said, years ago filets were not available. When my Mom cooked them, she liked to eat the tails before she put the fish on the dinner table. Years later when I cooked it myself, I realized why she did that. The fried catfish tail tastes like a crispy fish flavored tater chip! Thanks for the memories!

That looks so good. We have a place here in South Carolina that was called the dock restaurant, built on the banks of the tail race canal. It had been there since 1970, famous for this exact kind of catfish. A few years ago, Gilligan’s brought the place, and quickly discontinued these, and wanted to sell only their standard menu items. Needless to say, when the locals learned of this, their business dropped down to nearly nothing. They wound up having to bring these fingerling catfish back, as well as re hire the original ladies that were in the kitchen all those years, so it would be done right. Sadly, you could only buy two portions, instead of have all you can eat like it was, but that was enough to save their business. So the moral of the story is, if you buy a place that has a particular hot selling item, and you cannot improve upon it, don’t mess with it! 😋

great video.... one suggestion, I like cutting slits across the fish, helps cook faster and you can pop the meat right off when eating.. yummy. :)

looks great, tip : score them vertically 1 inch part right to the bone before you bread and or batter em. More nooks and crannies. and it really cooks them better. each one inch bite will just peel away from the bone if you just push that fork in one of them scores and slide to the next one. that chunk will peel right outa there. yummy. love me some fried catfish

thanks for reminding me the old way of enjoying catfish as well as all spices of fish. we became spoiled to not having bone in our fish, although it is easier to eat and safer for the little ones, actually its really no more time consuming than fileting.

OMC...do you have to torture us like this? AMAZING catfish. So good lookin'. I like your philosophy about 'not wasting anything'. I’m from Massachusetts and fresh water fish is not my thing. I catch and fry blues and cod and even sand sharks all the time. But one time I found myself in Tennessee and went to a catfish fry and it was so tasty - like no other fish I have ever ate.

I can't believe what you said about the oil is not good. Hahaha!. Hell, I strain it into another container and put it right back in the pot with a cover. I fry French Fries keep the oil and cover no need to strain. I flour up some onion rings fry and again strain the oil. By now I may need to add a little oil. I'll fry Chicken in it too. No need to throw away the oil after one use. You must be rich. Haha! I just use an 8 or 9-inch pan.that is 8 inches deep too. I just cook for myself and the small pot does fine. I deep fry two pieces of chicken. I'm old and don't eat much. I just pour oil from it to fry fish in my cast iron pot.
