This is the main reason i never go out to any pubs on new years eve. So many horror stories of unprovoked attacks from local wasters. Those guys that did that to you are for sure not going to achieve half of what you have in their sad little lives. So glad you have kept going. Kevin, discovered you on Amazon Prime via a friend's recommendation. I have been binge watching a quite bit and was into Season 3, I think, when you reported the attack. So glad you have recovered (physically at least) and still at it. Your videos are brilliant. You have a knack for perfect editing what is a very slow ride. You don't over comment like a travelogue, but just take us along on your journeys. So thankful for that! I have visited the UK many times, mostly the rural areas, for walking and pub visits. Maybe my son and I were lucky, but we had no troubles, even in the "spit and sawdust" places. No matter where, however, criminal and violent people exist. It is a damn shame it happened on that New Year's Eve to you. With Amazon Prime Video, your loyal band must be ever growing. Good work, gent.

How can the Police say they regarded it as attempted murder then not pursue it? They should ALWAYS pursue such monstrous crimes with or without the victims co-operation. Boot prints, DNA, witnesses and suspects from the pub, these scumbags would almost certainly have records of violent crime, plenty for the Police to be getting on with. Proper sentencing is whats needed without political interference, and something like sentence doubling. Every time you go and commit a similar crime you can be sure that the starting point will be double your previous sentence. WHICH WILL BE SERVED IN FULL.

Kevin, as I watched this I got the feeling that making this video was therapeutic for you. I can't imagine going through what you did on that New Year's eve. No one should ever be subjected to that kind of violence. The wounds heal but the trauma lingers. Hopefully time will heal the trauma as well. I'm glad that you are working through it all. I also want to say that it sounds like your ex-wife is a good and decent person. Not all ex's would have been willing to step in to assist as she did. Even though you two weren't compatible as a married couple, obviously you are both good people. So sorry to hear about your experience, Kevin. And thank you for your videos - I absolutely love them, especially now I've found out how to access vimeo on my TV. Much better than watching on a phone screen! There was a 1960s TV show called Out of Town. Presenter was Jack Hargreaves. It must have been repeated in the late 70s/80s because I remember watching it as a child. Your videos give me the same feeling as that show. You're capturing a time and a way of life. And for your viewers there's something calming and reassuring - an inner peace - that comes with that.

Kevin, if you can remember, prior to you, probably a day or so, before you got to the lift bridge where you got some abuse, I knocked on your boat to say hello. I am absolutely dismayed the at the way you have been treated, not only by those thugs but also by the local Police who assumed you where drunk. Wigan, is and always has been a hard place but the majority of people are the salt of the earth, unfortunately, you where in the wrong place at the wrong bloody time which does destroy your faith in people. I only discovered your videos on Amazon Prime a few days ago and have been binge watching them. You are such a sweet bloke. I don't have a boat yet but you are a massive inspiration to me and are driving my will to get my first boat when I can eventually afford it. Don't let the negativity in this world discourage you. There are more good people in this world than bad idiots. Unfortunately it only takes one bad experience to break a person. I have been verbally assaulted twice now outside my property, had the police out twice and have had to install CCTV camera's. Its a horrible experience but nothing compared to what you have had to endure. Always remember that we all LOVE your video's and we are always with you as kindred spirits 🙂

I've been enjoying the series on Amazon Prime and found it to be the most relaxing thing I've watched in ages. I'm in the US, we're all in a bit of shock here over the division and violence in our country and I can only imagine what you have been through, your spirit so obviously wounded at the time by the situation as well. My two pennies worth . Watching youtube videos is something I do instead of watching the shit soap operas that her indoors thinks are great . There are a few boat tubers that I follow because they are real people doing the sort of stuff that I want to do . When you anounced that you were going to Vimeo I did intend to hop over from time to time to see how you and that bloody gorgeous boat were doing ( I am quite partial to the tug style with a traditional engine . A single cylinder would be my preference but I am still very jealous of your twin Petter Mclarren and the way you are living the boat life ) . the reasons for the change to Vimeo are no fuckers buisness except yours and all the shit comments that were posted on the announcement video were uncalled for . I have only recently gone to Vimeo and I have purchased all your series and I am currently enjoying the sound of Aslans engine right from the start again ( just into season two ) . From the days when you were stitching a chassis onto a discovery and ressurecting a VW camper I have followed the Country house Gent . Hearing that some inbred Wigan thugs tried to murder you has left mea greeing with you that the world is broken . BUT you can not let the experience dictate how you want to lead your life . You carry on as you were and get back on the horse that threw you off , you are doing a sterling job of showing the people what it is like travelling the waterways . I do hope you are soon back to your old self and doing the stuff that you and countless others enjoy .

Kevin you are a good man. I understand this post you have made and for your reasons. You could have cruised the networks alone without posting any of your current and past work. But you decided not to do that and created your great works. I for one thoroughly enjoy your vlogs. We the viewer's of your works travel with you so you are not alone and never will be alone. Kevin, I am utterly shocked and horrified at your story. Also uplifted by your courage in being prepared to tell it. We (my wife, the dog and I) were outside "The Moorings" at Crick on the 24th of October when you stopped for a hot drink and a snack. I thought of saying hello but didn't want to bother you. I've just recently discovered your lovely narrowboat stories which are truly an oasis of bucolic calm. The pace, the observations, the intricacies and details of life on the canals on a narrowboat are an absolute balm in these bizarre times. It is devastating to hear this story. It's a very sad day when someone like yourself literally gets beaten up for enlightening people's lives. You have shared your adventures and boating knowledge with us in a most entertaining way. I'd like to thank you for your awesome videos on KZfaq. I'm from the San Francisco Bay Area, and I say this because most of us in my neck of the woods never have heard of narrow boats, tow paths, hogs (ovens) and all the other marvelous English sayings. I have now added narrow boating as something I'd like to experience. One other thing...thank you for your cooking videos as I've tried three of the lamb recipes and they are delicious. Especially your Christmas video where you show us how to cook your lamb madras with rice and chapatti. I've made that one four times now and even those who don't like lamb have loved your recipe.( I have added carrots). Anyway, we are living in tumultuous times but as someone else stated, there are so many good people. I work with the public and I see both....the good far exceed the bad. I'm so sorry I only now got to see this video, Kev. I was devastated to hear what happened to you. You and Robbie are my favourite canal boaters by far, and to hear about the trauma you suffered brought me to tears. I'm happy that since then you have had much better experiences. I have been enjoying your videos and of course getting rather envious, since I'm stuck in Australia when I would have given my eye teeth to be able to do what you do. May you never experience anything like that again.

How awful!! It broke my heart to hear you went thru this. You've become my new favorite series to watch. I recently discovered your videos on Amazon and have been binging. Just now starting on Season 3 and imagining what an ideal way to travel. Britain is so beautiful. I've been unaware of narrowboats until now and I'm riding along on Aslan with you as you go. I have missed your videos, but completely understand now why you made the choices that you did. How horrifying your experience was, I am glad they did not permanently injure you. Very sad to hear this, Kevin. Although I've never experienced anything like that, I can still relate to your emotional reactions, which I believe is a mental trauma. You're brave and tough for carrying on (although you probably don't feel like it). I wish you well with everything.

So very sorry to hear about your awful incident. I was sad, mad and outraged about what happened. I saw your latest KZfaq video and I'm very happy that you're doing well and received so much moral support from your fans. It's a terrible shame that the local law enforcement couldn't apprehend those hoodlums...no telling how many times they have done this or worse. Take care.

This makes me feel extremely sad, I am so sorry you had to endure this Kevin. I have recently purchased a small GRP boat which is moored on a marina on the outskirts of Wigan. The community spirit within the marina is absolutely amazing, I am a complete novice regarding owning a boat and I am overwhelmed with just how welcome I have been made to feel, I’ve been told on several occasions that I should never hesitate when asking for advice or help regarding boating. Your awful experience has shocked me after I have been made to feel most welcome via Wigan folk. It is a sad world we live in when animals find it acceptable to cause harm to others, makes it even worse that more often than not those at the receiving end are extremely nice people like your good self. Wherever you travel to in this world you will always encounter nob heads. I truly hope you have managed to put this awful experience behind you, although I appreciate that is not so easy after experiencing such a traumatic experience. You are a well liked and thoroughly respected man, your friends outweigh the enemy. Take care my friend and continue enjoying that brilliant amazing life you lead.

❤ we are binge watching your vlogs 😢, we are so sad that you have had such a horrendous experience and that it almost stopped you from continuing on your adventures. Our son in law was attacked just over 5 weeks ago. His attacker hit him in the head multiple times with a claw hammer. Sadly, he suffered three fractures to his skull and a bleed to his brain. He is slowly mending, the pain; memory loss and frustration are destroying him. We completely understand how you must have felt and admire your bravery by carrying on. You are an inspiration. Your talents are endless. We've enjoyed watching your cookery vlogs, and you certainly look like you are eating in true Country Gent style. Keep on cranking.
