COUNTRYSIDE SCENE part 1 - CREATING A FREE-STANDING SCENIC BREAK
Well here we are again at the start of another project. Whilst this won’t be the quickest project due to the bridges, it shouldn’t take the months of work that the mill did. I do focus, in this video, on dividing the scenic area from Piccadilly approach, but give my over-all thoughts for the area and even make a start on one of the bridges. Enjoy!

Hi John, The new bridge and river is a great idea and with your skills at painting merging into the backscene will be great I am sure if only I could do the same with my end to end but will try my best keep up the good work its all coming along nicely. Cheers Robert.

Thank you Robert, it’ll be a fun little project. Hopefully complete over Easter. You could do the painting Robert, I’m off for Easter from Friday for 2 weeks. If you wanted to give it a go we could video call and I could give you few tips as you did it. Have a think, but you are doing great job Robert. Remember you inspire people to take up the hobby and give it a go. Look what you achieved with JMRI an and train automation, brilliant!

There are the real makings of a very effective scenic break. As you say the tracks leading out of Piccadilly really begin to take on a whole new look, now they are separated from the twin loops.

You certainly don't hang around once you get an idea John. I think that is all going to work very well. Very handy to find the River Goyt with a bridge of just the kind you wanted. The railway modelling gods were in a good mood that day plainly. Stephen

Hi John nice update as usual. I've been thinking about the river scene. Yes I do like it however, yes always an however with me, I don't like the pipes idea. What I've thought is why not use a photo. Put the river in, get a photo of a river going off into the distance and stick it to the far side of the bridge. I just think it gives the idea of perspective and that the river is going off somewhere. I've done it with a road bridge on my layout and I think it looks quite good. Just a thought John!! Anyway the river goyt is actually the start of the river Mersey. It starts on axe edge Staffordshire/Derbyshire border and flows off towards Stockport where it meets the Etherow and becomes the Mersey. Just thought I'd add that info 😂 cheers Andy

Hi yes I agree the river will disappear into a painting on the backscene, that’s always been as read. It the other end where the Goyt goes under the bridge. But… the river comes out between two tracks joining, that’s the reasoning behind the pipe. There are loads of trees so the river could just get hidden / buried, not sure yet.

Love your scenic board backdrops. Makes your layout bigger than it really is. Scene breaks do work. Love the viaduct build. Are the Pandolinos still running good? I love that train. Bill and Janet from California

Hi Bill, thank you. I agree the scenic boards do work and are necessary in my situation. Since the pendolino modifications a few years ago both are running fairly well, never perfect but good enough to earn their place.

So after watching your channel for a couple of years I feel comfortable to finally ask my question: Do you prefer making it or breaking it :)
@piccadillymodelrailways
@piccadillymodelrailways 3 ай бұрын
Lol, please dont be afraid to ask a question. I think its an element of both, as each section is completed to the edge of each that planned section. But... I may need to modify what has been done previously to accommodate the new. Im never afraid to change it.

Hi John, are you think of doing Ardwick on the route out of Piccadilly? They are now putting a housing estate where the container yard used to be next to it.

Hi, Not sure how you are going to do the Hadfield and Glossop extensions as the both go off in different directions from Dinting. You might be better off just running the route from Dinting to Glossop and forget about the Hadfield part. By the way i love you Daleks. Not got those drone Daleks in my collection yet.
@piccadillymodelrailways

Hi Gerard, as with any model railway, it is a model, a representation, a slice of imagine. If you check out my Dinting series, you will see a return loop, depending on which way out of Dinting you go you will end up in either Glossop or Hadfield. The idea works well. Also in my world you go through Dinting to New Mills, again its all about using the imagination. Its not a scale model and will never will be. Relax and go with it... lol

John - I had the same problem with my canal, how to make it run along the layout and where does it end? I had a castle on a hill so made the decision that the canal, along with the road and tracks, would run under Castle Halt and somehow magically go off inside the hill to wherever it wanted because being hidden menat I did not have to worry about its direction or intersecting with any other scene. Perhaps by building up the bridge with the viaducts and covering the tracks behin when the river goes under the bridge you wouldn't necessarily see it as it magically goes under ground? It does need a tad of suspended imagination to be used but its a possibility? Some really fascinating plans will be watching development with interest! Regards Steve

Thank you Steve, it will be a bit of a challenge but I will do something along the lines as youve described. My latest thoughts building up trees around the junction and maybe the river coild dissappear there. Not ruled out the pipe idea though. The other end is simple as itll continue into the scene break and continue as a painting.
