Today I am finally planting our new Hay Field. The field will mostly be grass hay. We are planting orchard grass, meadow fescue, Timothy, and medium red clover. We are going to use a 3 point broadcast spreader to distribute the grass seed on the hay field. Then we are going to use a cultipacker to roll over the field and press the seed into the soil.

Nice job! And I think you'll be a lot happier with the coverage that way as opposed to what you got with that big lime spreader. So like you say all you need now is a good drizzling rain to settle it in and get it to germinating. May god bless your work and make it productive. Those cows will love it.

Before washing, use the leaf blower to clean off most of the dust and blow out the radiator. I find the equipment cleans up pretty well with just the leaf blower and it is much quicker. Also, I use to drag a large section of chain link fence behind the tractor (with a log fastened across the top of fencing to hold it down) for smoothing the field and covering the seed. Worked well.
@davidwestervelt6050

it looks great. The rolling will help the bumps when you are cutting later. The only thing I plan to do differently when I plant next year is to spray for weeds prior to planting. So I do not have to fight with the weeds as much when it is all germinating. It funny how you can put down so much seed and it sprouts when it wants. I had a few alpha sprout two yrs later after I had done my cover crop. Should be nice and smooth for when you make hay. Now rain hmm. Just glad it gave you time to work it properly. Someday hopefully you will get to thin the trees along the edge. Maybe a battle after you get it bailed next year. I think I may start ploughing to help with my clay ground. It seems for me to be such a gamble in the spring with rain and the ground still frozen. I really like your packer. I think I should get one. They really have their place in the line up. Well looking forward to see how it does.
