Nice truck! I drove a 1988 LNT8000 for several years, with the Ford Diesel and a 9LL just like you've got. Steering problems are a sign of worn front end parts, which can easily happen in 100,000 miles, especially if they're "city" miles. The guy who did your alignment should have told you about whatever worn parts he found, and tell you that the alignment won't help the steering much when there's a bunch of worn parts. Maybe he thought that you wouldn't care since it's an old truck, but that's not a valid assumption in your case. She's got a lot of good miles left in her. The Ford 7.8 Diesels were made fun of when they first came out, but our fleet had good performance and reliability from them and we worked 'em hard.

The way you feel about the traffic and all is pretty much how I feel about advertisements A lot of lengthy advertisements

There's a shifting trick to eliminating that "grind" when switching directions. Let the truck come to a complete stop before you move the shifter. That way the mainshaft in the tranny is completely stopped too. If you take it out of gear while the truck is still moving, the mainshaft freewheels and will take a while to stop unless you jam it into gear like you're doing. Give it a try.

I have been looking at an old L8000 was wondering how she does on fuel? The one I am looking at has central hydraulics also, which I heard kills the mileage. Good videos!
@CountyLineGarage3 жыл бұрын
Well I don’t have anything to compare but this one would get around 12mpg with a mix of loaded and unloaded trips. If central hydraulics uses more fuel it’s still worth it.

Nice,good lookin ol truck👍 What's the goin' pay rate per ton in your area?
@CountyLineGarage3 жыл бұрын
On triaxle trucks we can get about 7-9 per ton depending on range. On single axle trucks I charge per load since otherwise it’s hard to make money. I would charge $75-100 plus material per load depending on distance for anything between 1 and 10 tons.

Have you hauled any loads around 10 tons?
@CountyLineGarage3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I had as much as 12 tons on it by mistake and it did fine. Really wasn’t any difference from 8 to 10 to 12 drivability wise. Didn’t have as much braking power as I felt it needed. Up to 8 tons was its sweet spot but it wasn’t bad over that.

@@CountyLineGarage that is what i have. 210 hp

@@CountyLineGarage I'm guessing you have the 240- or 270-hp rating. I drove a 210-hp for a few years, and it didn't pull as hard as yours. There's a metal foil plate on the engine that tells you which rating it's set up for.

@@CountyLineGarage You're lucky it's got the air brakes. The "juice" brakes on these were awful. Awful scary, that is. 😞
