One of the great things of the Chateau KZfaq community it's that each chateau have their own style. Philip and Anna's episodes are so well done from the filming/editing point of view that I wouldn't change that. It shows all the time and preparation that is put on it. Stephanie and Philip's also has its charm and its style, and I do appreciate all the work that takes to film and edit a daily blog.

Yeah, but I dont think you're considering that this man wants to sail more. He once talked about it being turned into a sailing channel. Best way to do that is dailies and blend the sailing and chateau reno. Would actually be really UNIQUE, as chateau channels go. Would definitely freshen up the ol' chateau reno world. I think viewers have seen enough chateaux that we get the gist, it's all old and covered in wood paneling and a pain to work with bc you've got to bring specialists in (or have Philip do it an f up the electrics or plumbing, 😉😅 and have Benoit come save him). I think people need to think of the FUTURE of these channels. Change can be good. Phenomenal, in some instances. Look what Dan has done. I think How to Renovate could do with a bit more breeziness, get some sailing vlogging done Phillip! 🎉

I think the big difference between the 2 vlogs is that LaLande has a huge cast of characters, chapel adn Chateau restoration, garden creations veg garden with pergola with several gardeners, chefs , florists , carpenters and near orbits like Dan so it is never mundane. It think both of you have the style that suits you.

YES exactly what I was going to say! I got hooked on LaLand because of all the wonderful people - friends and family. It's a hive of activity. I actually started watching Michael Petherick and he and Stephanie would do funny "skits" together which drew me to Stephanie. Again it was all the people who kept me there. I remember Stephanie vlogging on a crappy phone LOL so she has come a long way. I watch you guys because of Annas design sense. Like I loved the wallpaper making the most. I like how your home has come together.

@@supremlyfoxylass To me this comment sounds neither fair nor kind. Funds raised through Stephanie’s Patreon are earmarked solely for chateau/chapel restoration and upkeep-she’s stated many times that this money does not fund her travels, lifestyle, or other projects. Her personal life is funded through her successful KZfaq and BnB businesses. Why should we begrudge her for spending her own money how she pleases? I also think it’s worth mentioning that Lalande restoration funds have been raised not through donations but transactions-viewers are buying exclusive content via Patreon, digital downloads of artwork, naming rights to chapel stars, etc. Through these purchases, viewers are ensuring continued work on the chateau and chapel, which produced content those viewers (myself included) clearly enjoy.
@lisaakinlabi
@lisaakinlabi 2 ай бұрын
@@supremlyfoxylass People seem to forget LaLande is a business - B+B which earns income + Stephanie is one of the top KZfaqrs on the platform which also creates a huge income. That is her job and how she earns her money for personal use. Stephanie has been very clear on the funds raised for restoration purposes and she has shared many Patreon videos detailing the funds raised and the costs paid out to the people doing the work. Like anyone else you have a job, you earn an income and you spend it on how you wish to live your life. Then as a business owner that income is to pay staff, purchase supplies etc. and business owners earn a portion of that themselves. NOTHING Stephanie does is without being transparent. None of it is difficult to understand unless there is a lack of commonsense and education.

@@anderson.135 i think they have watched that horrid video "revealing the truth about Stephanie" which is that she has created a very successful business and how dare she enjoy herself! Made me very angry that they would have a go at someone who works very hard, to not only restore a beautiful part of our French patrimoine, but to create jobs and a business for many people to enjoy. Why, as the boss isn't she aloud to splash her cash once in a while, and have a break? Blows my mind... anyway, I really admire Stephanie and her work.

Anna and Philip, I selfishly would hate to lose your weekly vlogs, they're a special treat. Stephanie, Dan and Billy's content allow for short daily updates (which I never miss) but even Dan is cutting back to keep the content interesting. Since Covid I have subscribed to so many channels that I found I was spending too much time with my "imaginary friends" and have started to skip through some of the vlogs that are posting more often so I can spend more time with my real friends😀
@NewEscapade
@NewEscapade 2 ай бұрын
I totally get that. As life has returned to normal, all the "imaginary" friends I accumulated cannot fit into my life if I'm going to live responsibly. Oftentimes, I sit here and think, "If I don't detach from something, I will disappear in the clutter and dust of my own house and then it will decay around me." So I've pared it down to 2 I watch religiously: How To Renovate... and Dan The Gardener. Yet, I am so grateful for all the sweet people whose lives and interesting homes I've been invited into, and who got me through the pandemic and a concurrent mysterious health decline, by a comforting distraction and escape. It started with Doing It Ourselves, burgeoned with The Chateau Diaries and several spin-offs and associations - all those sweet people I got to "know." My health and capabilities returned to near normal, so I can tackle the demands of my life again; but I do feel sad about the ones I've relinguished, and wish them all the best, and check in when I can.

I got the impression that Dan was cutting back because everything takes so much longer when he is videoing it and he can get more done in a day if he videos less. Which when it is the same as the work he has done before he doesn't feel as pressured to video everything. Which isn't the same as trying to make it interesting just a case of trying to get it done quicker.

I think that often vloggers underestimate the curiosity of viewers in sometimes distant lands regarding the roads, the towns, the architecture and customs. It is easy living in France to take all that for granted when for many it's really foreign and strange. Also people love to hear the cost of things on a daily level. I know that when I go to a foreign city I head to a supermarket to check out the food and prices and things like cleaning products. I often give a list to new foreign chateau owners and home owners of French products that are really good and quite different from those found in other countries and often they have no idea what to look for. Products like 'Savon Noir' and 'Pierre d'Argent' and 'Popote' and 'Eau Japonaise' that are all really useful. We also have different strengths of vinegar and other interesting products like bags of Bicarbonate of Soda and Percarbonate of soda, both great natural products. I tend to use natural products like vinegar which is a great cleaner. There are also food products used to prepare certain dishes and sometimes enhance them and herbes grown for salads that other countries don't see as edible on a daily basis. xoxoxoxo

You nailed it perfectly. It is amazing how different food and customs, even the same language can be. Europeans do not under just how different Canada can be from the USA. Or England to Canada and Australia. I visited my daughter in Northern Queensland from BC Canada and just the lanquage was wildly different. Never mind that I left a VERY ethnically diverse city to go somewhere where there were essentially two races.. white and aboriginal.

Philip, I LOVED the video at your family cabin in the Alps and was disappointed there wasn't more of just your family around the cabin. Perhaps it didn't do as well as you'd like because it was just a snippet. I'm in Germany (Bavaria...American who married a Bavarian and moved here and now have three German-American kids) so I adore any of your content where the girls are speaking German with you or your mother. I'm not sure if it was the same video, but I especially loved when you were in the cabin showing the girls the table-top bowling sort of game from I'm assuming your time growing up going there. You just looked so proud to be playing that with them and seeing them enjoy it. I called my kids over and showed them and they wished to play it, too. Before each school year starts we go to a rental cabin for a few days in Heutal and really cherish those times and it reminded us of that. I'm so jealous of your ability to have your own place tucked up in the Tyrolean Alps. My husband was so impressed (he does quite a lot of Bergsteigen and Skitouren).

I agree it was a most marvelous video! I've enjoyed Anna and Philip's travels and outings with the girls. Philip's footage of nature is always fantastic and going for a trip that's not centered around chateaux but other values of life I'd think is incredibly important. Like when Stephanie and Philip went to SA to be with family and enjoy that part of the world. I get a bit restless when the videos become too pedagogic or feel like a public service television series introduction to history or chateau life. I do understand both channels have to think about potential new subs tuning in, but for all of us with a good grasp of European history and arts and long time followers, that's where I tend to zoom out a bit. It's like soneone telling a joke, and then walking you through why it's funny is tedious. I get it though, the more views you get, the more I guess you're concerned with the average intellect of people on social media, and not triggering or offending etc. That would be a major issue for me If I had chosen to vlog. Editing myself to the PG sweetheart show host version of myself would feel a bit inauthentic. Privacy is also really important to me, and having lived a life with the aspect of public attention to the professional performance side of it, especially travelling, I can really relate to Anna and Philip's thoughts on being in private moments interrupted by being approached by folks who recognize you or your partner, crew etc. I'm really impressed by the courage it clearly involves doing this youtube thing, where there's nobody around to help you navigate these things or insure there's a buffer when it's needed. Just offering up a whole channel of commentary and judgement for followers to possibly exploit negatively is kind of mindblowing to me. I'd have never had the inclination. Most of my dearest friends employ someone to handle their media presence, social and other. Even emails. For very good reasons. These people are incredibly brave, all of them! ❤❤❤

I love the way Phillip edits as he makes the storyline so humorous. I knew I heard, my first video watched, a German accent. Yet he'd say he was Italian or from Italy. Now I know why. My father was of German decent, second generation here in the states. He, though, did not have a sense of humor. My Scottish decent mom, on the other hand, had a dry, quick wit. I've just begun The Chateau Diaries. There's another, Our French Chateau in Brittany, where I adore the owners as they play off one another and the wife has such a a witty take on life. Plus they love and care for strays, which is my heart. The renovations are also wonderful to see come to fruition. One added piece, Phillip has such sexy charisma!

Because of those efforts, you were then able to help someone in need, when dear Benoit was injured. Because you have ventured out of your comfort zone, you’ve been able to provide side trips and excursions for your family. Favorite 'How to Renovate' vlog: when Phillip took Anna on the scary hike AND when the bird was caught in the fireplace. Favorite 'Chateau Diaries': the more recent montage of Dan. So Many Hilarious memories. ... AND any time Phillip and Stefanie travel because you act as ambassadors of Lalands hospitality.

I’m a huge fan of both channels , but Phillip of how to renovate a chateau seance of humor gets me every time. It makes the channel feel so happy. Anna I used to try and hold my sneezes, but then I broke numerous ribs. My Dr. Said to never hold your sneezes just let then go no matter how loud. Just love you both.

Wow! Thank God for Benoit! Having a plastic wash bin to keep the dirty dishes in under the sink, before washing them later, keeps the sink available and the counter clear. Unfortunately, all sinks don't have that kind of cupboard space underneath, but when they do, using a wash tub to hold the dirty dishes does help. I rinse them off and put them down in the bin. Works great and makes the kitchen look nicer, less cluttered. Possible? Great video! Very interesting.

I have to agree with Philipp about the dishes in the sink, highly impractical, but I do that too. It's a bad habit I'm working on quitting! The Italian trip video was INCREDIBLE. Seriously the best one you've ever put out. Have no idea why it didn't get as much views. It's a stunning piece.

Since watching KZfaqs is a source of entertainment, I prefer it when the video has little to no complaining. You are wise to keep your children out of the spotlight. Well done on keeping their life private. We do love to see your everyday life (shopping etc) since it is so very different in my country.

Though different from most of your videos, as someone who watches the vlogs of several chateaux almost religiously (....and yes, Philip, I even watched (and loved) your winter wonderland vlog....), I really enjoyed this interview video. Would not mind at all if you repeat this format occasionally with owners of other chateaux. That said, I do appreciate each chateau's unique and characteristic vlog for its own stylistic merits, and probably would not want interviews to completely supplant the style that you've already painstakingly developed. Nonetheless, when Stephanie changed to daily vlogs, I wasn't sure I liked them quite as much as before -- but now I've definitely gotten used to the new style, and I'm still watching! So would I be devastated if you decided to change things up in order to make editing/life easier? Probably not. You all are living the dream, and you have loads of talent and wonderful personalities -- of course you'll have viewership!

When Philip (Anna's) said their least watched vlog was the trip to a 'winter wonderland', I remembered that episode and really enjoyed it. It's funny that people don't watch the episodes outside the chateaus as much, because I really enjoy those on both your channels. Though I like your regular vlogs too.

It is obviously not all a holiday but your videos provide so much pleasure for so many. One is inspired to experiment. You have gone so far in this wonderful journey and one hopes you will continue even after the completion of the extremely hard but ultimately totally rewarding life experience; one which will remain with you forever. That's because it was Philips job in his previous life. Stephanie was an opera singer, which is no help to her regarding filming. She just picked up a camera and started vlogging. I think that's quite brave when you have no previous knowledge of filming.

I used to follow a number of Chateau channels and now I only pop in on a few here and there, but commit to subscribing to ‘How to Renovate a Chateau’ because of the filmmaker quality of the videos. I do think that it is terrible when viewers seem to think that they are owed something from vloggers, that the act of watching means that they can expect to question and criticise and give unsollicited advice, sometimes even Patrons. As a viewer and subscriber we choose to watch and follow but have to accept what we are told and shown. Vloggeres don't have to 'tell' everything of their lives or even explain. It is entertainement and often educative and should be seen and understood as such. Me being a gripe ! xo

I’m wondering why you didn’t have a Thermel store Our underfloor heating is FIRST …reaches to a solar panel…if no heat there it senses that and reaches to the back boiler on a wood burning stove in the house …lastly if no free energy it reaches to the oil …it’s very clever …nice the sun or wood can heat a big old house ….we installed it as a DIY project…❤

It's a very interesting Q&A, about towards the end, when it comes to privacy, I think there is a lot of pressure from certain viewers who wants to see too much of your life. I personally love the renovation videos, and never really watch your travel vlog, it feels too intrusive. Your weekly videos are great, fantastic quality and love the humor, I am french living in an old rickety cottage in the countryside, and slowly losing my sanity with all the work that needs to be done. Watching chateau renovation is very inspiring! Ps. The father of my children keeps on leaving pots and pan in the sink, making it unusable, and it drives me mad. He also used my fabric scissors to cut cardboard. I still haven't forgiven him.

It's easier to live in an isolated rural spot like Lalande if you have money to travel and to pop to London/Paris, etc. when you want to. But if you don't drive or don't have the money then you might feel very lonely and cut-off very easily. I would like a bit of peace and quiet but I would miss London or a big city too much after a while
