Oftentimes, a family's headstone may become muddy or dirty during the grave digging process. This is why I started cleaning headstones over 8 years ago. If I have time before the family arrives, I will clean their headstone whether it is due to the gravediggers or just due to build up and growth over time. The number one rule of headstone cleaning is to do no harm, so before you do your research before beginning any headstone cleaning.

Thanks for the tip of the D2 Biological solution for cleaning Limestone Headstones. I'm going to try to buy some as we have family graves where mold constantly grows over time and so always looking for tips to clean them.

We discussed with the monument company rep. who did my parents about how to reduce the possibility of moss/lichen growing on the surface. We were told to keep the surface as much as possible as polished. All of the lettering has a polished surface. No rough surface on the monument. He also said people doing the laser etching with color will eventually fade over time.
