Courtney and her band covered The Breeders' 1993 hit for the A.V. Club Undercover project in 2014. She's a longtime Breeders fan and has collaborated with Kim and Kelley more than once.

Brilliant version! And it's nice to say Courtney & Kim in a sentence and not be talking about the Kardashians.

Beasting it! One of my favourite songs and I thought "Oh No!" at first but Courtney and the boys smashed it to bits! - Great job.

Last time I loved a band's AV club appearance this much it was Lake Street Dive. This performance is on that level, thanks for a wonderful listen.

I've always wanted to ask her about her technique playing without a pick. I did a couple shows where I dropped mine in the middle of song or practice and just smacked this shit out of my guitar to get the same clang but each time cut my fingers up and blood was splatter all over the guitar.
@James-wj8eq Жыл бұрын
Ive always used my fingers i personally slightly grow my fingermails on my strummiing hand and i use my forefinger to play the melodic line within the chord for an instrumental section too. I never used a pick though it does bring a sharper tone to your playing. Either way is whatever suits you!

Hey , I keep meaning to check out if she plays or ever played banjo because her strumming/picking style really reminds me of frailing-clawhammer-overhand banjo playing. If you’re not familiar just check out any banjo player on YT who plays an open-back banjo and plays that style. Yeah , as I’m typing this and watching her , she HAD to have played banjo using frailing . Just a thought !

Good news is, it was pretty faithful to the original. Bad news is, it was pretty faithful to the original. Courtney Barnett is a talented artist, and I'd be interested in her putting her own stamp on this.
@patrickhawkinson83994 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's true to the original. She usually does add her own spin to covers she does, but I think that signature bassline makes it a little harder to stray from the original on this one.
@adumbberg4 жыл бұрын
I understand what you mean about not switching it up. I like artists to put their own stamp on things. Courtney Barnett was 5 years old when this song was released, approximately 9,000 miles away. I think I'll give her a pass. I'm assuming not everyone growing up in her neighborhood, her age, got sick of hearing the Breeders' Cannonball all the time on the radio. I hope I'm wrong. What an awesome world that would be.

For this show I don’t know how much time they have to work on it. I do wish they had a second guitarist to cover the Kelly deal slide lead
