The thing about footballers going down easily is that there is something to be gained. They are finely tuned athletics at peak fitness. They aren't wimps. In Rugby, there's no real currency in feigning injury, is there? I'm tired of reading comments from people comparing the sports. Pointless exercise. Respect for the referee, however...Now that is something worth talking about.

Phil Simmonds The discussion is in the fact that Rugby is setting a dangerous trend. If the officials cannot get this correct what chance have they in other decisions. Saying that he was commit before the pass was made is a weak excuse. He could have pulled out at any point before. It was clear that the French player was passing the ball and that the ball had left. What is next in the game he was committed with the high tackle. Or my finger just accidentally landed in his eye. This is the kind of nonsense that pops up in soccer were they say things like he did not mean it he is a good lad.

VinceratedR No law says anything about control in the tackle. The only law that mentions the head hitting the ground is the spear tackle law, but it only applies if a player is lifted from the floor, not if his feet leave the floor in the case of a big hit. If the refs were giving penalties every time a guys head hit the floor during a tackle the game would never finish.

Courtney Lawes - the master of smashing the little man. The tackle is great, as often is with Lawes. But has anyone ever seen him to this to someone of the same size or bigger than him? Me neither. Going mental over Lawes smashing someone who's considerably smaller and lighter than him is just like causing a huge fuss over a lion winning a fight against a dog. Of course Plisson was going to come off second best! Had Lawes done this to someone like Bastareud, Dusatoir or Pascal Pape, then yeah, amazing, but it's against a fly half who Lawes is twice the size of!

Incredible self discipline NOT to 'Lamp' any of the four French players who surrounded him goading a reaction. Robshaw leads by example, Lawes is equally capable of becoming a future England Captain. Now that match commentators have woken up to this mans ability, he's finally getting the recognition he deserves. The 2015 World Cup will be an historic one. If a Frenchman did this to a 4 nation player there would have been a sanction. There is one rule of us and another for the French and Italians. No wonder this sport is going nowhere. Other than hurt the opponent, I have no idea what this tackle proved?

I laugh when the americans come here trying to bash it by saying that americans take hits like this all the time. take a look at the video again. as you can clearly see, we are not wearing full on body armor, why not you take the armor off and then lets see how long your overweight and heart-attack prone athletes would last.

As a former forward, there was nothing better than smashing the number nine or ten who hide behind the pack, however having gone back to rugby this year and playing as a back (to small for forward play now), I dread the moment I get cleaned out.

Already committed to the tackle, can't pull out. Nigel Owens the best referee in the world deemed it fine. They are playing rugby not badminton, people get hurt

legal tackle but doesn't stop it from being dangerous. A lot of folk using rugger bravado to gloss over the fact the French lad is lucky he didn't get seriously injured. Lawes knew he was going to be cleaning him out and that he wouldn't see it coming. It just seemed like a bit of a cheap shot ie he was clearly passing the ball away so there was no need to even make the tackle. Lawes just fancied cleaning him out

He would be a decent linebacker in NFL, no problem. But rugby is a much more exciting sport. In rugby everyone is an attacker and a defender.

Thomas Dudzinski If your french it was dangerous, that's not Lawes fault, he doesn't deliberately make Plisson land like that, it's not a spear tackle. It's just because of the size difference between the players. No one is to blame.

so what, you saying we have to tackle but be careful of how people land? so grab his legs and just place him lying down on the floor so he doesnt hurt his lickle boo boo?
@vorno102
@vorno102 9 жыл бұрын
Chris Taylor I think we do have to be careful how we tackle people, and the tackler does have a responsibility to the tacklee to not break the rules and injure the tacklee through breaking the rules, but as has been said a million times here, Lawes was within the laws though so if an injury had occurred, that wouldn't have been Lawes fault.

Lawes perfectly knows that he won't tackle Plisson with the ball in hand when he starts his tackle (everybody who played rugby knows that). Lawes played it just well enough to stay within the rules but it's still a dangerous tackle on purpose (not the first time from Lawes).
