That treadmill incident could absolutely cause his death! As a certified personal trainer I can tell you that overexercising can cause every single symptom that child experienced that night, including death. The vomitting, sore legs, lethargy, extreme sleepiness, dehydration, and seizures can all be caused by over-exercising; I know, I've seen it - I've never seen someone die, but I've seen all the other symptoms. Regarding the sepsis: What happens when you exercise too hard is, the muscles break down, causing toxins to spill into the bloodstream. If the system is overloaded with those toxins the liver and kidneys are unable to clear them out of the bloodstream, and it can/will cause the person to become septic. It's called rhabdomyolysis, and it's a painful death. This poor little guy didn't stand a chance. My heart is broken over this one.

I think the nurse in this hospital worked extraordinarily fast. The father was a Walk-in. He hadn't even checked in yet. He was just standing there, not trying to get anyone's attention. The Rn noticed the father, who hadn't even checked in, asked questions, and took his pulse at the same time, then immediately placed him in a room, placed EKG pads, iv and at the same time got the attention got doctors and the unit manager to take over while he attended to emergency calls. I was a nurse for over twenty years. You use a body chart. You mark, chart, and describe what you see. You chart your evaluation of the patient. You chart what the patient and the parent say. You chart your observations. Anyone who has taken a child to the doctor knows some children have to be prompted to tell the doctor/nurse what is bothering them, mentally, physically, emotionally, etc.

I get The sarcasm. In real life, a lot of abusers like this guy are totally loved, adored and supported by their parents. I think they are the definition of "spoiled". They raise the kids to behave poorly, don't effectively teach the child to behave , treat others in s socially acceptable (non violent) way. They become adults with behavior issues lacking basic social skills and abuse their own child, next generation. Chances are the Dad was a bully as a teen, and Noone ever disciplined him then, Noone gave him lessons on how to be a non-violent person. Happens all.the.time. in schools today. Bullys run rampant, never disciplined, never effectively taught to be non- aggressive. By adulthood, those behaviors are normalized to people like this dad.

Parents are often told they can be over dramatic, and nurses will tune out the parent who shows sny emotions or too much emotion in the ER. Nurses are taught to ignore emotions, including in parent. I worked in Pediatrics and Pediatric ICU, CTICU (where open heart surgery and heart and lung transplants where done), in an ER, in Oncology and in a Burn ICU. Because they know some people will look down on her because she is a former addict. Even in some comment sections there are people blaming the mother for the father's behavior and Corey's death. At least his mother worked to get clean and now has a daughter. She was trying to save her son by contacting CPS and taking him to the hospital to prove the abuse. I just hope the jury can see through what the defense attorney is trying to do. Even if his mom made mistakes it doesn't change what this man did to his son.

When he picked his kid up right after he got in, and you see the kids arms swing around his dad to hold onto him… broke my heart. The last bit of life he had left was wrapping his arms around the person who should’ve done anything to protect him. Instead this child was an open target for someone that is sadistic and filled with rage. Life sucks sometimes. This dude should be in prison for the rest of his life.

In the ER surveilance video there are zero comforting gestures by Christopher. A parent would be gently swaying and occasional pats, rubs, kisses...even comforting words. He's doing none of those--zero engagement with his son.

@@maryagregory6523 thank you for your insights. I was speaking about the first ER visit with the mother. The father was not present. They saw the bruises all over his body and yet no further action was taken. CPS should have been called immediately. They should not have let him go.

@@maryagregory6523- He repeatedly stated he never looked at the child’s face to see it. His father was covering his face. Wouldn’t part of an examination be from head to toe starting with the face? We can get so many nonverbal cues by looking at someone even if they can’t say anything. Also, if they’re limp and they’re not responding to you that would be critical condition wouldn’t you think? I’m not even surprised, considering medical malpractice is the third leading cause of death in the U.S.

ravenzyblack6576....But they did take the child immediately for examination, as soon as the nurse noticed the father. Even though, with the injuries the child had to his heart septum;, a minute or two sooner would Not have saved him.

While Christopher had the child on his shoulders, he was blocking the oxygen to a dying child. In the place of the Triage Nurse, I would have focus on the child first, and provide the most needed emergency care that to talk to the father... The father was not the patient, the patient was the child.

I think he beat him up because the poor kid was highly dehydrated from working out so hard. The fear of this poor kid was in and you cannot think properly when you're lacking electrolytes. So dad beats him up! It's my guess that that is what happened. Poor Corey! This poor sweet innocent little boy. I don't know what has to happen to change these types of outcomes but when mom is begging for somebody to take a look at what is happening to this boy, the teacher also makes a complaint. And the presiding judge does not do anything! Wtf!

I agree the urgency was not there. Not sure why the nurse waited until the child actually postured to put him on a stretcher and get a quick look. Children often take precedence and especially a lethargic child.

It’s not even just this nurse tho. It should’ve been clear to every single nurse/doctor around that something is not right. I mean, this kid looks like a rag doll. It’s crazy that no one around saw that and felt concerned that this is a dire situation, based off of the way his body is hanging like that. I doubt there was much they could do at that point, but still. It isn’t just on this nurse so unless you make them all janitors be nice lol
