Another dual role: Peter met his doppelganger in the high school (Arthur Owens, who wears eyeglasses); shenangians ensued. Episode title was _Two Petes in a Pod_ and it was episode 18 of season 5. The split screen effect, to show both characters at once, always looks obvious. These shows of the 1960s rarely did anything interesting with it (except when Jeannie would lay on the sofa and her evil brunette sister stood behind it). It's usually just two characters standing in front of each other ... like the thumbnail image here.

Watch when Alice & Emma meet, so to speak. They don't hug or even shake hands. That's because both characters are played by Ann B. Davis - they simply kept the camera and everything in that scene in the very same place while they filmed the "Alice" character first (talking to the left [really at no one]), and then after a makeup & wardrobe change, they filmed the "Emma" character, talking to the right [at no one], but timed just right, that when you overlap the two film-clips, you get two different characters talking to each other.

@@robinbarber49 Yes--- you said it. Plus, they did let Carol have some quiet leisurely moments, doing needlepoint or whatever (everyone needs some relax time or "me time") but she definitely assisted Alice most of the day, because it must take two people to do it all, between cooking and prepping lunches for school and cleaning and laundry and shopping for groceries, etc etc etc. I know this is TV fiction, of course, but if I just *think* about vacuuming a house that size, I get tired, LOL.

I realize that I am in the minority here, but to me, this episode made no sense. First, yes, why would Mike and Carol submit so easily to her authority? (So as not to offend Alice?) Second, sorry, no cousins can resemble each other that identically. That is why I thought The Patty Duke Show was corny. (I do remember Alice telling Jan that she had a bossy older sister named Emily, and this would have made somewhat more sense. Her name was similar to Emma, and sisters, even if they are not twins, can look very much like each other). Given the fact that Robert Reed opted out of a couple of episodes because he thought they were too unrealistic, I am surprised that he did not opt out of this one!
