From Thunder Bay, oh boy, In 1988~92, I spent a few evenings at the Cove. Used to be a fave place to stop in before we'd go to watercross races down in Grantsburg. Met a lot of great people there and some of the parties after. bwaa hahaha.

Went there about 10 times in the mid 90's and all but once on my way in there were fights coming out. Loved the dance floor!

In the winter of '96-'97 I was on a fateful trip to Soup Town with several other friends. We had been ordered by a certain guy with a slight speech impediment (only while sober) who loved to say "mister" (people who went to UMD at the time may remember him from that alone) to get him thoroughly shitfaced for his 21st birthday. We knew he was going to be a lightweight but we had no idea what was in store. First a stop by the Viking for a nice strong screwdriver maybe (they had stopped making the famous Vulcan Mind Probe that year... Ouzo + Wild Turkey 151), then Norms for some snacks and whatever mixed drink were on special that night. Then Frankie's, back when it was a popular place with the loaded bloody Marys, the dollar shots of 100 proof, karaoke, and occasionally bar food (Spur chicken was good for end of night but not while doing the crawl). I think we stepped into the bar next door with the most-definitely-not-a-gilf dancing (Limplifter? haha) just long enough to scare the birthday boy. Carignan's was busy so we avoided it. Joker's shut down a year or so earlier, so no go there sadly. Then of course we went to the Cove... who promptly told birthday boy not a chance. Unlike the other bars, they had bouncers that night... and that was just fine. We had to help him back to his car, yes we made sure this trip of doom was in his car and for good reason. As we were crossing back on the bridge we smelled something salty that you normally don't do in your own car.. oops, he peed himself. Then as we rode up Mesaba towards his rental house (8th street near the hockey rinks) the chunder was released. All over himself and the front passenger seat, dash, etc. It was impressive in a really funky way. Then the smell hit us, and the driver pulled over, and we rolled down all windows despite freezing temps outside. After we all gagged (and maybe one dude did color a snowbank himself due to the smell) we were able to get back in and ride the rest of the way to his place. His roommates came out to drag him upstairs and park him sprawled out on the floor of his bedroom. He looked like a wet dog, but we made sure his vitals were fine without getting anything on us. :P We pondered if he had done all three to himself, but we didn't want to inhale to check. :D

I got arrested there in the winter of 1976 when I went with half a dozen (gay) male friends and we started dancing together. Yes, we knew exactly what we were doing.
