A red/blue Izzet control deck for BO1 MTG Arena ranked mythic ladder. This deck uses Slick-Shot Showoff as a finisher or as a distraction, depending on the situation, but it actually wins by grinding value. The latest Standard-legal set is Outlaws of Thunder Junction aka OTJ.

In my experience the mobile version makes just about everything slower, so it might be that.

Love this style of deck, way more versatile than people would think. Plus the value you get from Lilah is crazy. Really the only downside with your version is that some matches you may never find a creature because you dig with arcane infusion. May be worth it to just swap it out for Memory Deluge, or Memory Deluges replacement from Eldraine. Thanks for the daily vids while your gone CGB you are a real one.

@calebmills6051 Because you can throw in countermagic if you would like and it would still work, or could throw in a haughty Djinn, or maybe even more aggro pieces. The sideboard for this deck is probably different for a lot of people.

@@calebmills6051 Yeah this exact deck didn't work out very well tbh lol. That's why I said style of deck in general. Ive seen a better version of this deck just wreck. Mogwai's version was pretty good.

Cool bug game 1. Arena seemed to both fast forward the attack step and then hit with Lila, making it look like CGB had lethal.

I've seen it happen in other games where the defending player concedes during the combat damage step. I guess the game calculates the total damage that player would take before the attack animations go off, and ending the game prematurely causes it to reveal the predicted post-combat-damage health before the actual attacks resolve. Weird!

@@ender4101 the game computes a bunch of stuff in the background in advance to it actually happening, so that the client itself can move smoothly without having to wait for any computation before playing an animation. As you say, what throws this off is unplanned variables such as a concession. The game then tries to insert this new information into it's existing calculations (seeing as getting it right is somewhat irrelevant anyway)

They should give every player a speed rating. If you’re slow you go in the slow tier, and play against other players in the slow tier.

@@lordbunburyNah. Being slow depends a lot on the deck and situation, this would be really unfair. Plus, it's very easy to see which players keep constantly abusing this. Just keep everything equal and punish those by shortening their rope. Force them to play faster or at least lose faster.

This would probably be even better in Bo3, where you can change to a full control or more aggro deck, after sideboarding.

They should give every player a speed rating. If you’re slow you go in the slow tier, and play against other players in the slow tier. Make a couple of tiers 1 being super speedy players, and 5 being super roping slow. Why do players in lower ranks play the game like they’re in a world tournament anyway? Just play and have some fun, stop overthinking everything. This is not a world gp, you’re at home eating cheetos and you’re diamond rank.

Black control does take this one to the cleaners but it's fun against other aggro. It's not controlly enough to deal with 2-3 aclazozt or shoeldreds.

Uuuy type games is major reason why I quit Arena. The game as a non-limied F2P player is a massive grind to have any meaningful progress. All it takes is one or two slow players (spoiler alert: they're all slow players) to want to insta quit the client. On top of that WotC doesn't give a shit about managing the banlist/powerlevel in a reasonable way so playing the game is not even fun, more like a chore. Watching gameplay on youtube (at 2x speed and content being nicely edited) is only sane way to engage with Arena. Thank you CGB for your service/sacrifice.

can someone explain to me why even at the highest levels, people think roping is the way to go? This community disappoints me so much because they basically suicide bomb the joy of others. In live magic, if someone makes a great play and snatches victory from defeat, I congratulate them and shake their hand. Online, all ppl do is ragequit or spam the chat wheel

@@KroyX i used to olay somewhat casually. One or two games a day. It was tough to sustain anything more than monoblack. If you want to treat the game like a job then sure it's easy to play multiple archetypes. Otherwise, pick a lane and stay in it.
