I can fully work at home while developing near alien level tech since I built my own engineering lab equipments from scratch. Previous pandemics were primarilly left in the hands of doctors and nurses. This is the first to be left entirely in the hands of politicians. The lesson here, I think, is for politicians to stay out of it. They have not reduced the death total, but rather only spread the deaths out over time. Meanwhile, they have nearly destroyed the world's economy. In previous pandemics the economy was, of course, affected . Mostly by workers calling in sick. But the economy was never shut down in any way.

AI robots will have to be used like in Japanese hospitals when the front-line personel falls ill. Robotization of certain manufacturing facilities will become common practice when people won't willingly show for work during the pandemic. The future of technological advancement is at our doorstep. It may seem far-fetched, but that's the way of the future commercial practices. Many companies will seek out new ways of avoiding transmission of the disease, and robotization will make 24 hours on going operations more redeemable and more profitable, because robots need no pays, no sick leaves and wage hikes. And further more, once adapted, there's no risk of accidental propogation by asymptomatic individuals on the work place. Less risks, more productivity, more benefits in the long run. Education as we know it now is over. It will be computerized, with educational programs created for the purpose of online education. No more buildings to maintain, no more teachers to pay, no more schoolyards bullying, thus millions of dollars in immediate savings. Students will have a passcard to enter in their PCs, as to make act of presence for their learning, all supervised by their parents, at home. Supermarkets will adopt a non-public accessible warehouse, where a UPS like system, where customers will take their order inside their vehicle, thus no proximate contacts with personel, and less shoplifting saving millions of lost profits in the process. The future will become technologically inclined.

Demand, production, and work load HAVE to remain low in order to save the world from the climate catastrophe!!! Half a century ago, it was possible for people to have enough to eat with much lower levels of demand and production - why should it be impossible to return to these levels? The chasm between rich and poor wasn't as deep and wide then, and care should be taken worldwide to enable the poor to live at least tolerably - even if be at the expense of the rich; they can afford it! If they fail to make concessions, the pitchforks will be coming!

Careful economist... ur supposed to be objective and I’m not sure this was. Also, I feel like Donald Trump has done more to put China in their place than any president before him.... I don’t think it’s about controlling China, it’s about putting our foot down when China tries to take advantage of when they try to control. I think Donald Trump is fighting for this. And since undergrad and since I began thinking more on my own and not so just with the liberal party, I have come to question the practicality or even plausibility of globalization

The truth is that financial systems needed - and still need - to crash. Capital has taken way too much importance compared to work, it isn't sustainable long term. You can put all the patches you want on it, eventually this is where we are going to end up. Redistributing ressources will actually boost growth as people can spend more as opposed to a few guys hoarding it all. You'll still have people more wealthy than others, just not 100x more wealthy like we have now.

Most people fail to see this. I once thought that we need a war to destroy silos of wealth used to control things and let productive people get back to running things. Finance is meant to be a facilitator of economic activity, not the basis of it. US big business leaders are not productive people, they are instead experts at moving wealth from the many to them and their friends. The businesses they run is just a means and not the purpose.

Even a small village is a major threat in this current framework. If we have to rethink social interactions say two years ,DON'T WE have to rethink economic structure, medical access, global cooperation and scientific priorities??

This analysis of tourism is plainly wrong. The prices only would go up through social distancing matters If you assume the other prices weren’t affected, and they obviously were. The biggest mistake is to take prices “coeteris paribus” in the reopening. Those who do so will certainly fail to be competitive.

As of today you can’t really speculate until we know that there will be treatments that there will be a heard immunity and plans for dealing with alternative endings. Yes you can do conference calls but a large part of the population of country’s can’t and will be working in direct contact. Also the US has become a demagoguery is is no longer functioning as a democracy. In 08 and 09 I took a big hit financially. I was a successful contractor. I seen the writing on the wall I divested myself of all my property when I realized that I was seeing customers that in reality could never had been able to afford it’d the properties they were getting into. But I didn’t tie this into my investments and there is where I lost money. I now only invest in hard assets that aren’t as vulnerable to market changes. It’s highly likely we won’t see the end of COVID for many years and it’s to early to speculate.
