I'm glad that there's a video of this piece being performed because the technique required for it is bizarre yet interesting.

No, it is neither bizarre nor interesting it is just modern. Say goodbye to the classics which constrain thought; musical thought. Have A Nice Day !

just starting with cowell...next is discovering how this looks on paper i.e. sheet music. It took 100 year old progressive/avant garde piano music to spark my interest as a musician....Radiohead doesn't cut it anymore

I know the feeling. Whereas I think I want to continue playing rock based music, I want to study the avant garde classical and jazz to better understand music. I am personally a guitar player, and it is uncommon in rock/punk for musicians to understand music theory. It gives a great advantage. I've been playing by ear since I was in 9th grade and I think to bring it to the next level, this is the kind of shit that must be studied.

I wonder if BlackMIDI advocates realise Henry Cowell was doing the same thing nearly 100 years ago...

@LoLEntensindtoll7 жыл бұрын
The first and the last note are marked with a big || with the meaning you should play everything between. =)

What is she saying, in the beginning? Can anyone translate in summary, what she is saying in the beginning, please? . Cheers. from, del-boy

LieutenantShweinHund She is talking about one of cowel's composition influenced by an irish poet's poem which says that "Lir" is the god of all gods in a mythology ( i didnt quiet get which mythology it is) just like zeus. Lir ordered his/her half gods to create the world but lir had something special his/her toung was half cut. Thats why some of the orders given by him/her were not fully understood and this missunderstanding is believed to be related with the things that we dont understand compeletely in the universe.
@s1nd3rr0z36 жыл бұрын
Its part of Irish mythology
@MrShyguyRS6 жыл бұрын
It's actually from the score. Lir was the head God. He didn't actually have half a tongue, but was described as so because his fellow gods only obeyed half his orders, not the other way around. The point of the piece is to describe the hidden brilliance behind a forward meaning, which is why the score at one point shows four staves.
