Good to have pet cows to get them back in the fenced area. We had Highland cattle that my drafts pushed 12-14 head of Highlands through the fence. With the cattle all horned, neighbors didn't want to get near them, worse yet the local sheriff was called. My Wife and 16-year-old son got them back on the farm and into the yard. One of those fun farming incidents I won't be able to live down, I couldn't participate because I was on a 4 week working engagement in Brazil!

We AI'd 4 this year on our small farm and have confirmed 3 bread and 1 open. Not sure I could learn how to AI, but I think I should try...lol enjoy watching you grow your farm..

Your cattle are a delight to a couple of old hillbillies who are lifelong Jersey lovers. We bought a semen tank last year even though we currently have no cattle on the homestead. We hope to be acquiring a young cow from the Biltmore Herd before the end of the coming year. She will be conventional dairy stock, but we will attempt to breed up with NZ, grass genetics. I also need to take an AI course, but it’s not yet a priority. Glad your great escape was uneventful. Keep up the great work. You make us proud.

Over the past few years Laura and I have gradually handed off her manager duties to Lydia. She just completed her second very successful herd check. We're in the Columbia Basin, and our cows got out, too. The snow had something to do with it, I think. Where did you send your blood tests? I ordered urine tests, and the results were conflicting. Would not recommend.

you are lucky where you live i am right on a road so when the girls decide to take a stroll they either block traffic or go to one of the neighbors to visit dont rely on electric anymore put up page wire for the pasture no more visits and dont have heifers anymore they were the guy that rents horses do however get out do to my brain fart and stroll down the rd so far no snow here!!

Not going to run a free range farm. That goes to show you fence or no fence cows can go for a walk. Why did choose AI over having a bull for breeding? I enjoy your videos.

I’m wondering, how do you manage AI’ing with someone not on the farm? The heat window is pretty short, isn’t it? Do you just call up your AI person and say “my cow’s in standing heat! Quick, come over! I guess if you’re watching for heats, you can mark and then know when the next cycle should be, so they know in advance more or less.

I always liked your cow buttercup so that's what I named one of my favorite dogs,I have 6 of them!
