Great to have a little sit down,catch up session. Love how you are staying on track with the farm yet stretching and growing. Doing more with the horses will be interesting to watch and learn along side the two of you. Hope you guys record more of what you may consider the mundane of daily life. That's the stuff we armchair farmers want.😀 Best wishes for 2023!

Love your ideas for 2023 especially planting trees ans hedges, that's one thing I notice about US farms is the lack of hedges for wildlife corridors and food for bees.

What you guys REALLY need is an air strip to land you small plane that you will use for stock surveillance and crop dusting, 😂😂😂. Happy new year to you both, have a great time.

No, none of that! Actually our neighbor has an airstrip. The previous owner there was a commercial pilot and he would “commute” to and from work in his own small plane!

I miss the old dairyforums… I stuck with it to the end. FB replaced all that and there are some dairy groups that have familiar names from dairyforums. I’ll probably talk about it in a video in the near future, but I’m actually looking for a small milk tanker. Evidently they’re hard to find. Need one for the community creamery project and I actually look forward to getting back into milk hauling. Thanks for reaching out!

Congrats on your accomplishments! Would love to see your plans include making some of your organic A2 into freeze dried powder for sale. It is very hard to find it in that form. Alexandre Farms in CA sells it through Azure Standard who delivers to the Colville area at the Eagles drop site once a month and they sell out quickly even at a pretty high price. If like our household who can only drink/use A2 and live in rural areas with no place to purchase it near to us, a big 55 lb bag of it is precious!
@vnthomas16
@vnthomas16 Жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for your idea, but that is SO beyond a small farm's ability...the equipment alone is cost prohibitive. Also, the ethos of our farm is to provide high quality fresh dairy to our local community. Glad you are able to order it. Thanks again!

With wanting to compost more, y'all should look up some of the Holler's videos. You can just search Holler. They actually put their chickens to work with the compost. It might be something worth looking into. It's just a thought. Do you know how many cows you're going to keep? Especially with all the calves coming later in the year!! Will you use more milk to make your 🧀cheese? Will you ever get it set up to milk two 🐄 🐮 cows at the same time? I know it's something you've spoken about before. With all the cows you have and will have, you may want to milk two cows at a time!! Just curious!! 🍾🥂Happiest of New Year🥂🍾 to you and yours!! Cheers 🍻 to 2023!!! Much love from Mid - Michigan!
@vnthomas16
@vnthomas16 Жыл бұрын
The chickens actually do a good job in the barn with our composted bedded pack. We were looking at a separate, outside composting system but we just never got around to it. We’re already set up to milk two cows. Our parlor has two stalls, and we’ve used both. But right now with our herd size, it actually saves a little time to just use the one due to reduced clean up time. Next season our herd will be bigger (six milking) so we’ll probably be using both stalls then. We do plan to make more cheese next season. Happy New Year!

Thanks for the the successful end of the year round up and the new year goals. I always enjoy this video. I am curious, do you have a goal for the number milking cows you want? I follow a small, family dairy farm in Ireland-I Farm You Farm-he milks about 50 cows. I also follow 10th Generation Dairy Farm. It is another family farm near Lancaster, PA. I believe they milk about 120 + cows. (I like to give a shout out to hard-working, small, family farms)

Quick question for you guys.....I have an opportunity to buy two excellent condition surge side opener stalls just like yours with a 3rd for parts for $1,200. Does that sound like a fair deal?
@vnthomas16
@vnthomas16 Жыл бұрын
I have no idea on price… But I don’t think you could buy materials and pay someone to fab them for that. I paid 10 years ago $150 per stall, but still put over $500 in parts and supplies into them. TechForAg sells reconditioned stalls. You could probably reach out and see what they’re selling for?
