Cozumel Gets Extra Security, World's Largest Cruise Ship

Royal Caribbean will now offer status matching across all three brands: Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises, and Silversea Cruises. MSC Cruises is negotiating to build a new series of ships that'll potentially be the largest ever constructed. Princess Cruises has launched the Love Line Premium Liquors collection in collaboration with Pitbull, Jason Aldean, and Romero Britto. Cruise line stocks for CCL, RCL, NCLH, and VIK.

We are on a Royal Caribbean Mariner of the sea and we are in Costa Maya! It’s about 100 degrees and we are walking back to the ship and they have no drinking water! The Carnaval valor was hand out water yo all there passengers! I complained and said I was going to tell Cruise News!

The status matching doesn’t move the needle for me personally. I’m ready for one of these companies to count nights sailed in one loyalty bucket across their brands.

I think it’s great about Status Equal on RCL lines, keep customers in the family. Smart marketing move. MSC is going to be cruise line to be felt with. They status match, plus building the worlds largest cruise ships, they are undercutting prices , introducing different islands in the Caribbean to visit. Interesting. Thanks Doug.

Even though Margaritaville is the newer and smaller cruise line out there and I know they have a new ship coming soon, I hope they end up adding a third even bigger ship to the line.

I've only cruised on ships that size. They were great - just big enough to have some choice in dining and entertainment but easy to get around and you actually feel like you're on a ship, not some massive floating resort. You'll enjoy it for sure.

RCL should go 1 step further then just matching. They should set your status based on your cruising history with all their brands, read a single loyalty brand for the group. that is normal already in the airline and hotel business. That way it becomes way more attractive to stay within the group. I am sure others will follow and you get real Loyalty programs.

I'm confused about Cozumel beefing up security at their cruise terminals. My experience has been going through a duty free shop, past food- and drug-sniffing dogs, into a shopping area. The Cruisehive story mentioned reducing lengthy security lines, which I've never seen in 27 cruise stops in Cozumel. The Galveston terminal uses facial recognition, which I'm sure is tied to records of U.S. citizens, but what database would Mexican security be using for the same technology?

Hey Sue. I’ll have to check out that article. I got the alert for the tech company installing and local paper. Cruise ports are starting to use a double layer of facial recognition while boarding. With the pier technology and at the gangway. Experienced it a few times this year. Have a great weekend.

The US ports and airports on departure can do the Facial matching for all passengers US or not unless they illegally arrived in the US. legal foreign arrivals Biometrics are captured on their first US arrival and are reused each time.
