I love Dorothy L Sayers, though I haven’t read her books in ages. I remember reading all of them in my teens. I recently came across Have His Carcase on KZfaq. The fabulous adaptation with Edward Petherbridge and Harriet Walter. Such fun to watch again. Thank you for sharing your delightful visit to Shandy Hall. The art exhibition looks wonderful. I do hope you both have a lot of fun as you celebrate the rest of Donna’s birthday and look forward to catching up with your next vlog.

Miranda, I'm so enjoying your channel. I did a Google search of Rumer Godden after my mom told me she was enjoying reading her biography. What a lovely birthday cake, Miranda. I love that it is no bake as well, since we are in the first heatwave of the summer here in Ontario. This recipe will allow me to still enjoy a sweet treat without turning on the oven! Dear Miranda, I just LOVED your Shandy Hall vlog. I must have watched it 4 times in a row! The white horse on the hill we all passed by in the car on our way there is just fabulous. I just had to go online and research all of the various ones. You are SO lucky to have a framed print of it. I was prompted to order one of my own Carry Ackroyd prints. I bought the one with the murmuration of blackbirds (can't remember what the title is). The gardens at Shandy Hall are beyond beautiful! And I loved the musical soundtrack you chose to go along with it! Mum looked so beautiful at the end of the vlog when you both were eating cake. I loved your smocked dress. You always look so smart.

Carry Ackroyd’s work is lovely! It reminds me a bit of a Maine artist, Blue Butterfield. Her work is primarily woodblock carving and she takes inspiration from the nature that surrounds us in Maine.

Tritram Shandy was the first novel I read for my English Literature degree. Another great vlog from you as always! I've visited Shandy Hall as it's not too far from York. I love smaller old houses as I find the larger stately homes become much of a muchness, if you know what I mean! We used to make a very similar refrigerator cake, the recipe was on the Scotbloc cooking chocolate packet 🍫. It was delicious but so sweet, and that was without icing and malterers! I loved the cards from the exhibition, I will have to check out her website and may even visit Shandy Hall next week. You introduce such wonderful artists and books, thank you 😘😘

I adore John Clare, my favourites are The Thrush's Nest and To an Infant Daughter; I imagine the latter will bring a tear to your mum's eye just as it does mine. I love your videos, you do a fabulous job putting them together and the relationship between yourself and your mum is lovely.

Shandy Hall's garden looks so beautiful!!! I like big and well-designed gardens, but if I had a house I would love and enjoy a garden like that, a bit wild. It’s not easy to find a good pack of digestives here in Los Angeles, but I am determined to make that marvelous cake, so I will go on a serious hunt for them. 😊 Your mum is the best and I so admire your love for each other. FYI Graham crackers worked perfectly. I served it chilled as it's been so hot here. So decadent, the malted milk powder gives it a little kick. Not much of a decorator so I just made chocolate curls to put on the top. Thanks for sharing!
