Good thing is that we all have different opinions and there are a lot of motorcycles for everyone. The search for adrenaline decreases when we get older and that's a good thing.

i hear you thomas, you talk about BIG engines.. but yea.. i rode my 50cc all around vestfold, telemark, even been as north as drammen and kongsberg and beyond that.. i feel like on a 50 cc, YES it goes slower, but more chill, .. but when that is said, i want to go faster, but not on an R bike, for me, the goal is a "poor man's harley" a yamaha virago or a Honda Shadow, and go up to 6-700 cc, no need for more engine than that here in norway :) other than that.. GOOD vid, allways love them, the enjoyment, the laughter, the.. EVERYTHING

Thank you, Thomas, for another enjoyable video. For the roads you're riding in Norway, certainly 700cc is plenty of power and the Tenere 700 is light enough that you can do some reasonable off-road riding with it. Here in Arizona, I do very little highway riding but when I do, it's nice to have lots of acceleration from highway speed (70 mph or 115 km/hr) when you want to pass a tractor trailer quickly or when some bonehead is tailgating you. I also agree that nobody needs the power and acceleration of a 1000cc sportbike (most can do 95-100 mph in FIRST gear), but speaking from experience, it sure is fun. If someone has the money and enough will power and common sense not to be stupid on it, who am I to judge (being the owner of a Ducati 996 and GSXR 750 in addition to my Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro ADV bike). Also, the music is great and not too loud that it interferes with your dialog. Looking forward to your next video.

The only time I've felt like I could use a bit more power from my CP2 is on big US interstates where everyone is going 90. But to be honest I really hate being on those roads anyways. It isn't even fun and more power wouldn't make it any less shitty. On any normal road the CP2 engine is an absolute goldilocks engine in my opinion. Genuinely perfect.

Hi Thomas , a great video . ( Sometimes you sound a bit like Arne , the Terminator ! ) I agree , the bikes in the 650 to 850cc range are the most practical . I've had bigger and smaller bikes but my favourite is an 850 . Easy to ride and park , not too heavy , tyres don't wear out quickly . The bike is fine . It's not a Tenere though , they are a bit too tall for me , darn it ! I spotted one " Galore " , 😂. Have fun , ride safe .

Good video and agree entirely. Thing is the Tenere has so much more to give. I hated motorway speeds in such high revs. If you can pull away easily in third gear its too low geared. As I mentioned in a previous post. Decat remap de snorkel the air box and change lid add a tooth on front and drop one or two on back. Result is what the bike should have been . It breaths and engine is far more tractable. More power that you don't need but its there if needed and far better economy mpg or mpl but enables a more relaxed ride as cruising about at motorway speeds is all below 5k revs . l love how the wife whom also rides can get on the back and makes no difference to how bike goes. The Tenere is strangled standard its bonkers fun unleashed. The Tenere engine is great standard but best twin ever made was KTM 950 sm hence all the mods to Tenere .

The Tenere is great for offroad. But I hated it for onroad travel. It would be great if my BMW F850GS had the Tenere CP2 engine. Then you'd have the perfect on and offroad midweight bike!
@TalkTheRide
@TalkTheRide Ай бұрын
I've never tried the GS, but will do, first chance I get 👍 What specifically felt wrong on the tarmac, for you?
@thatsleepyman
@thatsleepyman Ай бұрын
@@TalkTheRide So, the Tenere felt like a massive dirtbike. Nothing wrong with that and good for off road but I did not find it comfortable to ride all day on. My F850GS however is VERY comfortable but I hate the 2 cylinder engine in it. It feels a lot worse than the CP2. For example, it feels shitty until 3000 rpm. So if you ride off road you have to keep holding your clutch while giving a little gas while riding in 2nd gear at lower speeds, otherwise you're forced to use the torquey 1st gear which you don't really want. With the Tenere you really notice you can easily ride at 10km/h without having to touch the clutch in 2nd gear. With my BMW F850GS you can let your speed drop to 25~km/h before it starts to feel like shit in 2nd gear. That's a massive difference with the Tenere that can do it at 10km/h. So the overall comfort level of the BMW is a LOT higher, but the engine does not compare to the CP2. I haven't tried the R1200GS or R1250GS though so I don't know how the Boxer twin is.

I got the regular T700 last year. Live in Drammen and got it to use on gravel and offroad. Totally agree with respect to hp. If the cp2 isn't sufficient for what this bike is build for you are either a serious pro or you don't know what you are talking about. 75hp on gravel and offroad is MOORE than you need. If you are a speed monster on the autobahn, buy another bike.

I ride 1,000cc inliine-four supersport, so I can answer some of the questions you asked in the video 😊 But don't get discouraged by folks telling you that your bike this and that. I've seen plenty of guys riding tiny 125cc bikes and they were quite happy But first of all - why you may _need_ more and the answer is usually lies in the speeds you're going and whether or not you ride with the passengers and luggage. I don't want my bike to struggle under me, which (for me) means that I have to cruise on highway in about 50% of RPM range at max Next, ability to accelerate out of danger zone is very useful and it could be more preferable than braking or swerving, so a bit of extra power in the top end is always nice. Doing so with passenger and luggage commands even bigger engine Do you need a 1,000cc supersport for that? Certainly not and we're coming to another part of the question - why one may _want_ more Now, if you ride alone in rural Norway with 80 KPH speed limit, you don't need and probably don't want more 😊
@TalkTheRide
@TalkTheRide Ай бұрын
Those are some excellent and valid points. And as long as folks have a thought process behind it I'm backing it all the way. My concern is more with going to a 1000cc because "you have to" , to be cool or whatever 👍
@dustclouds
@dustclouds Ай бұрын
@@TalkTheRide Telling what others have to ride or drive to be cool and accepted kind of reminds me early EV adopters with their "holier than thou" attitude, even if for different reasons... It's just another powertrain with its own pros and cons, it doesn't make you a better driver or better person Now, definitely, riding a powerful sport bike lands you in a very different pot of hot water that you may not want to be in otherwise. You can ride slow, but you're heavily incentivized not to
@dustclouds
@dustclouds Ай бұрын
@@TalkTheRide I like your videos because of your attitude and beautiful nature. You don't have to go fast to enjoy the ride, quite the contrary Unfortunately, while riding fast, riders - including me - often forget what they are doing, it's just adrenaline rush. I can ride on a beautiful mountain road and still be concerned with leaning angle, cornering curve, apex and traction But I can tell you how does it feel. The bike has 186 HP at the crank, around 165 HP on the wheel. It's wickedly fast and exhilarating. And to answer your question on 4:18 :) So, you might be going in the traffic on two lane road, doing 50 MPH (around 80 KPH), waiting for an opening, with 3 cars ahead of you. The opening presents itself and you go for it The world shrinks, brain sloshes to the back of your skull, blood drains from your face. In 2 seconds you merge back into your lane, going 115 MPH (~185 KPH), which is twice the speed limit and criminal speeding in our corner of the world. And now it turns to the internal discipline. The cops around here turn a blind eye to such quick bursts of acceleration, as long as you quickly return back to the normal speed. And as long as it's not the end of the quarter, when they have to turn some profits to the county! Highway speed limits around here are 65 MPH, but everyone goes 80 MPH and more. Bikes split the lanes going slightly faster than the rest of the traffic, let's say 90 MPH (~145 KPH). But here is the dilemma. You're coming, going 90 MPH to two cars that go side by side, doing 80 MPH. Your next action? Slow down to 80 MPH and wait for them to let you pass, or accelerate to 120 MPH to quickly split between them? You definitely don't want to stick around them for too long Soo... It takes some degree of internal discipline not to, but I often do it anyway. Because it's intoxicating. And now you know why it's a little bit sus 😀

😊🎉🙏👍🏍️ Brilliant LOL thank you for giving us an insight into the mind of a serial speeder. This is Mindhunter Supersports Edition 😂 I definitely spot some "addict logic" in there and that's the dilemma - does the power of the bike induce this in you, over time, as you get used to the thrill? Are you pushing the limits more and more? Because that road only ends one place. Stay safe, brother 🙏🏍️🎉👍
@dustclouds
@dustclouds Ай бұрын
@@TalkTheRide No, actually no. I'm not pushing the limits more and more, as they are well defined - it's the maximum lean angle before the tire starts to skid and electronic speed limiter in 300 KPH... For a street bike with street tires, riding on public roads, I would say you have to stick with 2/3 rule - ~60% of the max speed, ~60% of the max lean angle and ~60% of the max throttle It gives you some room for error - if you need to lean a bit more to get around unexpected obstacle in the corner or a bit more speed and acceleration to get out of dangerous spot There is no more fear or adrenaline rush, true, but the thrill of acceleration is there and I don't feel compelled to ride faster or in a more dangerous manner than before I ride for almost 15 years, after all

That's starting to get into the range where it uses more fuel ⛽, but it's not too bad. Up at Autobahn speeds of 160kmh and beyond it gets really thirsty. As for the comfort, the wind does grab if it's from the side so not as much comfort as a heavier (and lower ) bike, I suppose.
