In this video I'm around 10/11 hours into my CPL Flight Training in the Piper Arrow PA28-201. On this lesson we depart Coventry and I go under the hood to track inbound to the LE NDB followed by finding my position using VOR and DME. I then have to fly on partial / limited panel for timed turns and compass turns before another position fix followed by stalls then recovering back to Coventry for circuits. All in all this was around a 3 hour flight and I've condensed it down as much as possible - I thought it would be a real shame to cut too much out!

A fantastic video Ben and pleased you left a lot of content in to view, thank you. Morris coached me up to my skills test at EMA which I passed a few years ago, after which we had a trip out to Southend for the day to give me some flying experience. I'd had a few instructors prior to Morris, but he was the best for me by a country mile and I was so lucky he came along at the right time. You made a good choice! All the best in your training going forward.

But I'll let you off as it'll be fun to watch ;) Would you be able to link the flight log sheet you're using? Interesting to see what's included on it. I used to fly daily (208s, DH twin otters, shorts skyvan, CASA, PAC 750 etc) as it was my job to jump from them and teach others. I used to joke about hating the flying part, but I broke my back and legs severely in 2013 and I can't express how much I miss it up there. Just torturing myself watching others fly now!

Another great and interesting video Ben. On all your approaches it sounded like you had a variometer fitted :-) How much more instrument work is there compared to your IR(R) training Ben? I assume that training helped a lot with this CPL instrument work.
@PlaneOldBen
@PlaneOldBen 5 жыл бұрын
Yeh the IR(R) hugely helped. With the CPL you do a BIFM which is 10 hours. It mostly covers beacon tracking along with partial panel etc. You’ll love it!

Hi Ben - I’m wondering if that aircraft type would manage the IFR from EGCC to EIDW as this would be a fun hop across the Irish Sea - proudly Irish, I’ve lived in Manchester for 21 years (although I’m closer to Liverpool) but have family still living in Ireland near Dublin, where my native Dunshaughlin Co. Meath in the Dublin CTA is a VRP for flights into Weston EIWT - there has been discussions about moving Irish Millitary ops from Casement (Baldonnel) to Gormanston but no movement on this yet from the Irish government
