Ya'll didn't have respirators, or any protection, did you? Please let us know what breathing problems you later developed due to the Hydrogen Fluoride gas.

It'll be interesting to see what the practical energy density of batteries will be before they are simply too dangerous to handle; that will have to be regulated at some point.

@soundspark New. Was testing for use in explosive atmospheres (inside an IECEx product).

whats the clamping pliers for? that was crazy. Do dead batteries like this do they flare up like this? i'd hate for one to be in a trash compactor and it gets crushed and flares and starts the rest of the trash on fire.

What brand was that? I've done similar with a brand name CR123A Lithium and it was really disappointing. (i.e. seemed like a pretty safe cell).

Seems kinda stupid to force that in a closed space since the fumes from the CR123A battery is toxic.

@zorinlynx Uhh...... you realize that this is because the lithium inside the battery is being exposed to moisture, which causes it to react violently. It has nothing to do with the battery being charged or not.

@zorinlynx Wrong, wrong, wrong. Take a haz mat course. Trust me, Lithium is dangerous at all pressures, but being slowly squeezed in a vice grip gives the molecules so much more energy that they need even less oxygen to ignite, as well as needing WAY less activation Energy. There is no surprise in this video for me. The sparks make sense too. I have burned it before and instead of just flame, it usually sparks as well, so it can be a chemical fire AND start an electrical fire as well.
