If you're looking for a quick and easy dish to make on the weekends, then you need to try this Crack Slaw. It's packed with flavour, and it'll be the perfect party food! Plus, it's easy to make on the Blackstone griddle, so start cooking today!
Ingredients:
1 lb Ground pork
2 packages of shredded cabbage/slaw mix or you can cut your own from a head of cabbage.
Whites from green onions (about 3 green onions) - Save the tops for later
1 Tablespoon Ginger Paste or a thumb of ginger
2 -3 cloves garlic
2 tablespoons hoisin
2 -3 tablespoons low sodium soy sauce
1-2 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
Drizzle of sesame oil (optional)
1-2 tablespoons butter
1-2 tablespoons Olive and Avocado Oil Blend
Steps:
On a pre-warmed griddle around 375-400 degrees, place ground pork on the left side of the griddle. After 2-3 mins, turn and chop up well.
Apply 1 tablespoons of oil onto the griddle and add the two bags of cabbage to the oil. Saute this until it's wilted and has a some color to it. Around 3-4 minutes. Add the green onion bottoms to this mixture.
Add the pork to the cabbage and incorporate well.
After incorporating, add the ginger and garlic and cook for 2-3 minutes.
Next add the hoisin and soy sauce and mix well.
Give this a taste and then adjust. Add salt and pepper if needed.
Add rice wine vinegar and give this a good mix.
Remove from the griddle, serve, and enjoy.

40 years ago, my Thai sister taught me to use Jimmy Dean sausage (original flavor) and cabbage with soy sauce to make pretty much this same dish (the sausage is already seasoned up nicely). We serve it over rice as a main dish and use it as filling in egg rolls. A family favorite for decades!

@@100hooker no recipe. I brown the sausage completely, add roughly chopped cabbage and cook til it wilts, then add soy sauce to taste. It should be just a touch stronger than you would eat if you were eating it plain, because the rice will balance some of that saltiness.

I make fried cabbage using the bagged coleslaw. In a large skillet put 2-3 bags of coleslaw, one yellow onion, 1 stick of butter and 1 tbsp bacon drippings, and 2 cans of Rotel. Cook for about 20-30 minutes! Yum!!!

If using sesame oil, be sure to get the toasted sesame oil & not the regular. The regular is more for cooking. The toasted is for flavoring & adds a delicious slightly smokey flavor. Many dishes you get in Chinese/Asian restaurants use toasted sesame oil. Definitely try it in a small portion of your dish & taste before putting it in the whole dish, if you aren't familiar with it. Just like anything you cook... it's all in what you like.

You can do crack slaw SO many ways. We've made it with Italian sausage and a little marinara at the end, ground beef with taco seasoning, leftover pork shoulder with green chile sauce, you can't really do it wrong. You don't need a big griddle, a 12" pan with a lid works great. The lid steams the cabbage if you like it cooked soft. Sometimes I cook just a whole head of cabbage with some butter, uncovered on medium high until it just starts to brown and use it as a side.

I'd like to make a recommendation on this. Add in some super thin cut steak that's been marinated over night in a mix of chili powder, lemon juice, A1, and ginger. You'll have to play with the marinade mix a bit for personal preference, but grill the steak and chop it up first before you start adding the pork to the mix that way the flavors can really mix in and play together.

Suggestion: marinate the ground meat in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic and ginger, then use that to season your stuffing. Or maybe mix all ingredients and marinate it, since that's what I do with gyoza stuffing. I am so going to try this. I've been making gyoza my whole life and I'm mad this did not occur to me. I'm going to try serving this donburi (on rice). Note: you know how you can call squid calamari and charge more money? You can serve something on rice and call it "X donburi" and charge more money. The rule is, to call it donburi, the consistency has to be such that most of it stays on top of the rice, but some of it dribbles down and flavors the rice.
@justletmepostthis276
@justletmepostthis276 Жыл бұрын
By seasoning the meat instead of the stuffing, would that lead to a different chemical reaction leading to a different taste to the stuffing? Unless I measured the taste difference between the 2 different methods (Soy on stuffing/meat) could you describe the difference? That would be a neat experiment.

Yep, I call this reverse egg rolls and make it in a wok, but it is delicious. Slaw mix and onions (and it's really good with some thinly sliced tenderloin). You might try some Gotchu Jang (Korean Hot Sauce) instead of Sriracha if you can find some. It's a little more subtle than Sriracha and has some umami and sweetness to it, but it still brings the heat.
