What about the Kingdom from Tangled? The king and queen seem pretty decent, I mean, the royal guard is a bit useless seeing as the Horse seems to be the most effective part of it, but then all the bad guys are actually pretty friendly so long as you have a sing-along.

Maybe the guards are real softies and never liked using Swords against the criminals (based on how lethal swords can be) so they more readily fight with pans as they are less likely to kill someone :P

I dunno if they were quite fair to Emperor's New Groove. Sure, at the START of the movie, it's a tyrannical hellhole. But the entire plot of the story is about the Emperor learning to not be a dick and appreciate the underclass. By the end of the film, he's happily mingling with the commoners and hanging out with his BFF the... um... lower-class laborer of some sort. (Did they ever specify that?) Either way, by the end of the movie ancient Inca is a pretty groovy place to live.

Jason Blalock I mean it's technically an empire, not a Kingdom, but since they mentioned it I still think it was the best one. I mean Prince Eric's had a ruler called Eric. And they were coastal so relied on fishing, how were they supposed to cope when he married a fish and presumably banned fishing, it would've destroyed their economy

Also, it's worth mentioning that Disney ancient Inca apparently has a functional economy that doesn't simply rely on village-style communist mutualism with a layer of capitalism grafted on. A country doesn't have roadside diners unless there's plenty of traffic and trade going on. Plus, the existence of the Junior Chipmunks suggests there's even leisure time among the lower classes. Otherwise the kids would just be put to work.

I'd put in for a transfer to Atlantis: The Lost Empire. 1) No singing Princess. In fact, not only is Kida supermodel hot, she also serves in the Altantian military so she's like the Bar Rafeli of Atlantis. 2) Hoverfish: Roads where we're gong we don't need roads. In 1910, you can zip around in your own flying hammerhead. Spanish flu might get me in the end, but only if it can fly. 3) Longevity: the Atlanteans aren't immortal but living thousands of years is good enough. 4) Many opportunities. You want to live as a simple fisherman, grab a net and start casting. You want to study ancient civilization, grab a journal and get cracking. You want to build mechanical marvels there are plenty advance tech waiting to be repurposed or reversed engineer. Atlantis has it all.

While I agree this is probably the best answer, and I did pot a comment that Atlantis is my pick, you still have to deal with the empire emerging from the depths of the ocean just in time for WW2 to break out. You have a civilization that has little contact with the outside world now being thrust upon the international stage and having to decide how to interact and who to be allies with. Plus, people would either try to conquer atlantis andor convert them.

The disadvantages of living in Atlantis. 1. you better like live sea food, because that's all you will eat forever. 2. Forget about traveling or meeting new people because your living in an underwater city that is almost completely inaccessable. 3. you're gonna have to live forever with a group of people who are so backward and primitive they can't even read their own language.

About Beauty and the Beast: Most people assume that Beast was the prince of Belle's area, but some princedoms are very tiny. He might not be *their* ruler. Also, nowhere does it say *every* piece of furniture is a corresponding servant. For instance, her wardrobe talks to her but I don't remember the bed doing so. So broken furniture does not immediately imply murderer.

Considering Belle's father stumble's across the castle and doesn't mention anything about being the home of the former prince that seems to have disappeared from sight, I would say you're correct on the first point. As far as Kate's point, the servants weren't murdered, they were just changed to furniture. Also, him "not being a good prince simply because he's not furry anymore". That's literally why he's NOT furry anymore. The spell can tell when he is truly in love and is loved back and is a changed person.

What about Moana? I know that she's not technically royalty, bu neither is Pocahontas. Moana is a strong, competent leader, she has years of experience in ruling, she saved the world from darkness, taught her people how to sail and fish, has an extended knowledge of agriculture which she uses to ensure lush field and groves of fresh crops. And you get to live on ocean front property. Sounds like a sweet gig.

@k9commander

Holidays are good. You either get the day off, or its good for commerce. The entire time (including after the movie) you're just celebrating the Princess' birthday. It may be sad for the king, for most of the movie, but has no real emotional impact on you. When the Princess comes back, the king is happy and probably buys more stuff from the merchants to celebrate. As long as he's not using the kingdom's money, this is good for commerce.
@dappperdan5731
@dappperdan5731 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah but the "celebration" of their morning is just lighting paper lanterns. All in all not a bad day. It's like a medieval Fourth of July. Yeah it's because the princess was kidnapped, but the forth of July is at its root the celebration of a whole lot of death, colonial death most of all, so on the whole no more morbid. I bet the whole day leading up to the lighting of the lanterns is a big festival. Every other scene kind of implies it's a pretty good life, in the city proper of course.

@Lanoira13

Exactly. Beast/Adam MUST have had other furniture. Even if the servants possessed the furniture, there is tons of intact furniture that's not alive. Like the table the rose is on. And the destroyed furniture is contained to that room. So it's entirely possible that the West Wing of the castle wasn't affected by the curse.

Perhaps, but who looks out for the orphan mice? Remember in Great Mouse Detective, the little girl is pretty much on her own in London, not just Mouse London, but big people London. She was lucky to find Basil and Watson, and luck he took the case and offered protection, but outside of that she was days from being some animals next snack. I wouldn't choose Mousedom. Mice have very short lives, Gus Gus and Jacques would be lucky to see Cinderella return from her honeymoon and Bianca and Bernard probably wound up as eagle chow when the boy wasn't looking.

I don't buy the argument that the Beast destroying his bedroom furniture means he murdered people. There had to be just plain old beds and dressers all over the place, not every piece of furniture in the castle used to be a person. That would mean that the prince, who ruled a kingdom and was incredibly wealthy, lived in an entirely empty, unfurnished castle; that he and all the servants slept on the floor and ate with their bare hands for years before they ever got cursed.

No this is during the movie so you're either one of the survivors of Atlantis or someone living in early 20th century society... Actually I think I poked some holes in my idea. Early 20th century means that WWII is coming, so you have a good chance of dying from the war, or the existence of Atlantis and it's modernization and integration with the surface world leads to a completely different history. But then again Atlantis already has a different history with the way technology and society has progressed, that explains the diversity of the crew, a teenage girl being a lead engineer isn't something that would happen for our world at that time period so maybe my point still stands.

The movie shows us Elsa almost killing her sister as a child, then it runs us through several years of Elsa locking herself away while she attempts to get control of her powers. It then begins the story with her at age 21 still not able to control her powers. So basically through her teenage years into her early twenties she was like a bomb that could go off at any second and freeze the kingdom to death.

In defence of Cinderella it was established at least 2 years ago the shoe magically changes itself so that it fits Cindy specifically. Also the actual best kingdom to live in is Corona from Tangled, the princess is the most social able royalty ever and there's a good chance that members of the criminal underworld all have a soft side, you just have to deal with an annoying lady in waiting.

I would still say emperors new grove, the old man wasn't executed, just thrown out, and pre-adventure you'd only have to worry about having to deal with the emporor building something he wanted on your land. post adventure it would be awesome cause all the corruption is out of the gov't and the emporor is pretty cool to his people apologizing in person for his past transgressions. There doesn't seem to be much of a criminal element outside of the corruption too.
@sarahgent2674
@sarahgent2674 7 жыл бұрын
darkmyro Pre adventure you would have to worry about having no food and then being one of the lucky few who get to see the emperor, except you don't, because you see his advisor and she is at best apathetic and at worst sadistic. Post adventure you have an 18 year old emperor who spends an inordinate amount of time with some random family (and dressing up as a woman to impress that guy's dad) instead of doing his job. And that elderly man was thrown out of a high window by strong men. If he hadn't landed in the banner, he would have died for accidentally bumping into someone and nobody cared.

I would go with Atlantis an Ancient Kingdom with ridiculous amount technology like personal healing/anti-aging crystal, awesome transportation, lasers, and a city force field to defend the island from pesky invaders (while the Levitation beats the crap of them). More than likely if I was citizen of this empire I could probably be a fisherman fishing for those crazy looking lobsters.

Well actually if you go with where they left off in the second film(I will admit it sucked). They are now back on the surface, with advanced technology, and their amazing culture. Of course it's not back to its former glory of the it's past where it was at least 1000x bigger in terms of land mass and population. The biggest problem I see is the political climate for it takes place around the 1920s.

Oh come on. Aryndelle would be great to live in. Post-Frozen, Elsa proves herself to be confident, tough yet fair, and smart (when her anxiety isn't taking over). But to balance her out is Anna, who can totally handle being her vizier or something. For a small coastal kingdom, things look pretty good. Happy townspeople that have managed to get on without a huge amount of government oversight, nobody bothered to claim the throne in the absence of the king and queen, Elsa was largely respected on her coronation day. Solid import/export economy, everyone's got nice homes, they're living in a Scandinavian Fjord, which has harsh winters but nobody seems to fussed about it. Even when Elsa freezes the castle town everyone is more worried about Elsa than they are the magic ice. I think it'll be ok.

Two things on Cinderella: 1. The word for squirrel fur (vair) sounds like the word for glass (verre), so the original probably featured a fur slipper that was later changed as wordplay. 2. "Fur slipper" was probably a euphemism. The Prince spent the night trying out all the young ladies and recognized Cinderella in the morning because she had a tight fit

I know a lot about Pocahontas since I'm from one of the Powhatan tribes (the Pamunkey, which was the tribe to which Pocahontas and her father belonged (that movie was terrible, by the way (I mean it was wrong in every way it could possibly be wrong (geographically, historically, linguistically)))). But anyway, Jamestown kind of got wrecked by famine after John Smith left and they turned to cannibalism, Pocahontas left to England and everything was okay until Chief Opchanacanough (Pocahontas's uncle) marched into Jamestown and slaughtered a whole bunch of people, then the settlers killed the Chief and more or less condemned the remaining natives (who'd died through illness and the war) to a life on crappy reservations in the swamplands of eastern Virginia. All that happened in about 40 years. So what I'm saying... Pocahontas's Kingdom ain't a swell place to live.

You didn't touch the political mirage to foster peace and prosperity between nations in "sleeping beauty". That seems aright aside from the evil sorceries that one time putting everyone to sleep, which being honest weddings are super long, who wouldn't like a nap in the middle? Also, in Cinderella, a young women gets made up, by magic, to look super great and turn some heads, and when she does in fact turn said heads your go to is sexism...? How about "hey top self work there fair god mother. The outfit you conjured up to be an attention grabber worked like a charm". You might want to evaluate your preconceived notions on the difference between admiration and objectification.

I love it in Cinderella that the Prince's criteria is SOLELY(get it?) the shoe fitting. Like he spent an entire evening with Cinderella, yet he doesn't remember what she looked like? Why see if the shoe fits on some random woman who might not even be the same weight, ethnicity, or whatever feature as the girl he was so smitten with that he desired to marry her.

- Beauty and the Beast: Before Belle was taken prisoner, none of the villagers even knew about the Beast. They all thought Belle's father was crazy when he said his daughter was taken by a monster. Clearly Beast wasn't fucking with them and living there before the movie would have been great, if you can live without internet (which you would have to anyway, it's the one drawback all these kingdoms share). Gaston wasn't the village leader he was just a popular guy. Him being illiterate would have been fairly common in rural France in the 1700s because it was a hunting/agricultural society. It's kind of like when people point out that Hogwarts doesn't teach architecture or whatever, it's just not a skill that's necessary in his daily life. As for sexism, he clearly could have gotten with any other girl (and at least one guy) in the village but wanted Belle because she was more than a pretty face with nothing behind it. Yeah, pretty sexist. He thought a girl reading was weird but again, 18th century rural France, not a useful skill in that time and place, etc. Plus, it's a place where homosexuality was viewed in an EXTREMELY progressive way for the time. Nobody batted an eye in the new one when LaFou started massaging Gaston's ears and fell into his arms. - Cinderella: The prince went to every woman in the kingdom and had them try on the glass slipper before finally finding Cinderella. So either nobody in the entire kingdom had the same shoe size as her (fairly unlikely) or he found some matches, asked them if they had been at his ball, and they said no so he moved on. Judging by the step-sisters' actions, I'm guessing the whole deal with having them try on the glass slipper was to weed out all the girls who wanted to marry the prince and would be willing to lie about being the one he danced with. - Little Mermaid: I kind of feel like Prince Eric's kingdom wouldn't be that fantastic after a while. I mean, the new princess will eventually tell people about her life before coming to the kingdom and everyone would find out that their entire economy is based on killing sentient beings. Even if they have the land and infrastructure to start being an agricultural society (they almost certainly don't), do you eat pork and beef? I mean the fish were sentient without your knowledge, who's to say the cows and pigs aren't too? These people have a pretty big decision to make in the near future and I don't envy them at all. - Pinocchio: Wasn't mentioned in the video. Why? It would be awesome. You would just live your life, with the bonus that all the assholes get turned into donkeys when they're kids. Sure it's unpleasant to think about but seriously, all the worst people get taken out of society before they get to grow up and do anything that could cause any serious damage. In the OPCD video on the movie, one of the points is that the child to donkey carnival place is never shut down, but what if that was on purpose? What if Jackass Island is a thing everyone knows about but doesn't talk about? You may say dystopia, but I say world where Donald Trump is pulling a cart somewhere.

First of all, how come the townsfolk were not aware that the prince was turned into a beast? And that they almost attempted to overthrow the prince. And the reason why Triton is using the human race as the scapegoat, and wants to separate the the two kingdoms is a metaphor for segregation. Also who is the mayor of the village that Pinocchio resides?

What about Corona from Tangled? That looks like a pretty nice place to live. There's some nice people, they got a bar full of thugs who are big softies and the king and queen seem like genuinely nice people. And they know how to throw a party! You have a whole day of dancing and chalk drawing and cupcakes and lantern lighting like a big 4th of July. They even threw one for a whole week that was so crazy, Eugene was too drunk to remember it. I guess the downside is that the guards are so inept at their jobs they have to rely on a horse. Granted it's the Javert of horses but they treat a horse like authority. So... maybe take some interest in home security and you'll be set.

The kingdoms from either Tangled or Moana would be great--Rapunzel's domain if you want a generally chill European setting, and Moana's island(s) if you want a lower-tech but even more harmonious existence. For that matter, Queen Elsa's kingdom would likely be amazing to live in--your Ice-Goddess ruler is all set to dominate the known world with her endless legions of Ice soldiers, while all her subjects just kick back and reap the rewards of being citizens of a medieval superpower (AND the CryoEmpress is single, and lonely, and you might have a shot at landing that sweet Consort gig).

Atlantis: The Lost Empire had a pretty decent thing going on before the film started and, presumably, after it ended. Like the village from Pocahontas but without the unpleasantness that came in the future. Brave is a mixed bag. On one hand, it's pretty standard medieval fare and the worst thing you have to worry about is the odd bear. But the problem comes when you realize that every single solitary man in that film is a dumbass. That might be lovely for women for a little while, but having to deal with, and then be courted by, and then marry, and then procreate with, someone who is that stupid is probably not going to go over all that well.
@MusketWalrus
@MusketWalrus 5 жыл бұрын
If Brave is the "standard medieval fare" that means corporal punishment, crippling poverty, frequent death by war, disease, and accidents. Inflation meant that the average French farmer's wage stayed exactly the same from the 7th to the 14th century. That means no substantial economic growth for *700 YEARS.* Does that sound fun to you? But yes, your main point that it's difficult to live with an abundance of stupid people is pretty true.
