It's been about a month since I filled up the tank and took my 2023 Honda CB125F out with the intention of cracking 10,000 kilometres on the odometer but I had a little crash in the dirt and put that plan on the back burner. If you've been keeping up with my videos, you'll know that I've since picked up a KTM 390 Duke, but today's ride was as much about reminding myself how much fun this little 125cc is in the twisties as it was about hitting that milestone.

I've had my CB125F since mid January 2024..... Now mid July 2024, and have done over 9,000 km, commuting and touring. No big deal.... have been riding for 60 years, have ridden in more than a dozen countries, and done more than 600,000 km on the road, and a good few more off road. The CB125 F has become my favourite of the bikes I have owned. My previous favourite was the CB250R.

@@michaelbw It is an excellent bike. I've got a KTM 390 Duke just sitting there and I still prefer to take the Honda out

Yep, agree. Fantastic bike. I have 4 other bikes sitting in my garage and the cb125f gets turned on way more. Crf250l. Versys x300. GSX-S8. Ninja 1000sx. I do really enjoy the other bikes but they are for specific purposes. CB is easy and fun for every day riding. Full throttle everywhere. Basically never needing to slow down for a corner.

@@florme6494 Motorcycles are day to day transport for me; I don't have a car. The CB125F is a good fit for my needs, mostly on minor rural roads. Includes some gravel, which it handles with aplomb. On the odd trip to cities, 250 km distant, loping along at 90 - 95 on motorways it feels unstressed. I guess top gear is quite a high ratio, so it it is well below max revs. I have seen 110 km/hr, and even at that it did not seem to have hit the rev limit. I expect it will last quite well. My last bike was a 1997 100 cc Honda Dream, which I had for 16 years in Thailand and did about 220,000 km on. Ex rental, I bought it for $500 @ 80,000 km, and sold it with for $150 @ 300,000 km when I left the country. Had the engine overhauled @ 225,000 km, which cost about $140, and was done in a couple of days. Have ridden bigger bikes, up to 1,000 cc, but find smaller bikes more practical for my needs. Unstressed small engines last fine as long as you keep up the oil changes.

Congrats on the 10000km. Not easy on a 125 that doesn’t favour motorways. Fantastic bike.

I find the fact that the bike's slow has some benefits. You are not constantly being held up by traffic, winter wind chill isn't as bad particularly if u pick slower roads also, short rides seem longer, on 100km roads u don't ever need to look at the speedo or for speed cameras. One of the best things is on entry to a tight corner, the bike really comes into it's own. It feels sporty and it's fun to jam down thru the gears and hear the engine bark. A small criticism of your riding tho, u seem to change down at too high a speed without enough rev matching. On a small bike the clutch is weak so too much of this can prematurely wear out the clutch, which I noticed u changed in a previous video.

I definitely need to train myself out of that habit of downshifting too early. I've definitely caused some premature wear doing that. On the plus side, changing the clutch plates was super easy and cheap, too. It cost me less than $40, including the clutch cover gasket

I’ve owned the monkey. Loved it to pieces, but it simply grabbed too much attention. Swapped it for this and I don’t regret it. Incredibly affordable yet comfortable and fun.

I've heard the engine loosens up and gets better after quite a few kms. I heard anywhere between 3,000 to 15,000km. Did u also find this?
@NicksBikes
@NicksBikes 3 ай бұрын
Yeah absolutely. Probably sooner rather than later, I'd say, though I gave this bike a fairly hard break in, so I don't know if that changed anything. But definitely when it was brand new it wasn't as rev-happy as it is now

I have looked after mine, it's well serviced and the engine hasn't been ragged all the time, and the engine is better now after 10,000 miles than it ever has been. No burning of oil and as punchy as a 125 can be. I really need to sell it coz i'm riding my new bike all the time ATM, and it's sitting in a neighbours garage but still hard to part with as i love it so much lol. GL

Yes, by 5,000 km it was noticeably better at holding on up steep hills. Drop it into 4th at about 75 and it hangs in quite well on most. When new it struggled to hold 70 on the same hills.

Just passed my 700 miles and I just done the first service on the CB125 F. I'm looking for first 500 miles as a target. Bike so far very reliable. Have you had any issues during the first 10,00 km ? Cheers
@NicksBikes

None at all, the bike has been great. Just keep an eye on the oil level because it will burn up when you spend a lot of time at wide open throttle

Have you done a valve adjustment? I am near 10,000 and have not. If so are the valves within spec?

@NicksBikes 2 ай бұрын
Check my community post page, I put up a screenshot of the valve specs from the service manual that was provided to me from a subscriber. I can't remember them off the top of my head though. I think it's recommended to check at 15,000km but I'm thinking of doing it sooner rather than later too
