How you can program a MURS band radio, to work with the Garmin Tread.

you made an excellant choice going with the Baofeng radio. You can program it on the computer by using a program called Chirp which is a free download. I am a ham operator and I have one as an extra field radio that I was planning to carry in my SxS. I just ordered a Tread Group ride. Thanks for the video. I'm in better hands now.

Well done!!! Garmin prices are just crazy..... What are the UTV´s ATV´v biggest groups in the States? We are working in some product that may help them ;)

MURS pronounced as 'meers' is making me itchy.

What kind of range were you able to get? We run the tread on several units but have friends without them. I was curious if the range drops off a bit baofeng as to compared to the range between the tread units. Good work on the video this seems like a great option.

@@DualSportGuy when you do text it out I'd love to hear how it went. Right now we get anywhere from a mile to 4 miles with the extended range antennas between the tread units. We also run the pci race radios which do amazing! Unfortunately, price is insane so I'm looking for cheap options for people that go with us with no radio system.

Interested in how the buddy tracking works. Program the Baufeng with furs,gmrs and race frequencies for the times you may ride with others that use utv coms. Enjoy!

Buddy tracking won’t work, with the baofreg.

@@DualSportGuy of course it will. The Baofeng UV-5R operates in the VHF band where MURS resides.Baofeng also makes a MURS only band.

Ny understanding is the Buddy Tracking works by transmitting GPS data packets over the radio. The Baofeng doesn’t know how to read those data packets, and doesn’t even have GPS. I don’t believe it’s compatible with the buddy tracking feature.

I don’t really know. If it runs on the MURS band, then it should.

@@DualSportGuy I just ordered a Btech radio that is supposed to be able to decode the tones on any signal, like the Garmin, and will post some information that might be helpful when I receive it.

I just setup my Garmin Tread Powersport and picked up a baofeng. I can’t seem to figure out how to communicate from the tread radio to my baofeng. I setup all the murs channels on my baofeng radio and I can’t seem to get them to communicate. Any chance you could make a video show how you use the tread and the baofeng?

Get the cable, to hookup to your computer. It makes life a lot easier, to program. Then download chirp , that will allow you to delete all the frequencies you don’t need. So then you can just program in just the Murs frequency you need.

If you wanted to speak to the Rugged Radio guys all you needed was a GMRS radio. They only cost $30-$40.00 for a good one. That group of guys using Rugged Radios are spending too much money on a radio made by Baofeng that only cost $25.00 on Amazon.

I kinda wondered that, they looked a lot like a baofeng to me.
