This is so riveting to watch but at the same time very frustrating, as I was never able to do my art. I did a year of art college but my family life completely took over and I wasn't able to continue. I was so happy making my pieces, I sold even unfinished things, working designs and o thought, I'll be able to continue. Now, o still have much too much to do at home, to be able to do anything to satisfy my needs. How amazing of these lucky and clever people, who can have it both. ❤

What??? The army an art and craft program? I had no idea they had that. I was in the Navy and happened to work in a foundry which I loved because metal work is fun! I work with wool now, but still think about metal, in particular welding. I also paint and do woodwork. Multimedia! Art is fun, it makes my life worthwhile. I love giving it to someone and enjoy their joy, especially when the piece makes them feel known, like I captured something they relate to in my work.

"Nature, it has been said, 'is a poem written by God, and art is man's interpretation of it,' but how few have eyes to see, and how few can ever show what they have seen." -Anonymous How gifted these people are to have the passion and dedication to hone such skill and to share with us the magnificence they see in something as mundane as a stick! How less everything would be without artists.

Some work by machines is indistinguishable from the work by human hands! Many automated sculpturing systems, repeat sculptures made by humans, down to tiniest imperfections. Other machines enable makers to execute their work much faster. The human mind is still behind the design. But now, with the birth of the AI, the competition is fierce. 3D printers can do what human hand could never execute, as there would be no access to the inside of the piece. We just have to appreciate both. 😊

I am a disabled crafter..because of my disability I'm very limited now what I can do. But oh the things you can make with yarn n fabric...while watching craft shows like these...thank you!

What a wonderful video. I learned so much. Every artists work is so moving, I am 61 years old. I always worked in corp. America. I went through a series of heartbreaking events over a 4 year period, and I felt lost and restless, until I started making jewelry and cards as a way to empty my mind of anxiety and sadness; to focus on something creative, and achieve something meaningful. Every artist hit on a point I could understand and relate to. Art is so much more than the finished product, and this video beautifully examined that process. Thank you for this series.

I really enjoyed this episode of Craft in America because I love both nature and crafting. My favorite part was the lady from Iowa and her love for the Midwest. I too am from the midwest although not Iowa I am from Wisconsin. I get homesick often living in Arizona is just not the same. All the crafters were truly inspirational I loved the fact they think outside the box.

Absoloutely sublime, a visual feast for the daydreamer, no stick is exactly like another, btw, did you know EACH plant, tree has it's very own DNA, NO MATTER WHAT GENUS IT IS IT HAS ITS own dna, HOW great is our one living holy supernatural god????? \0/\0/\0/

His vast creativity throughout the world shows even to the beauty of the Golden ratio in nature, and in us. And we get to show off his creations by adding our own to them when we craft with nature. That is beautiful.

Patrick Dougherty created one of his art sculpture at the Chanhassen, Minnesota Arboretum. They included a display of past sculptures. Amazing artist.

I enjoyed this video so much, thank you! Love the wood workers saying how they use wood no one else wants... that's like me, carving Cottonwood bark and poplar, which many see as garbage wood.

I’m chuckling to myself about myself watching this. I am a maker, if I’m not making my hands and the creative part of my brain gets twitchy. I’m guessing from this video my maker brain is a simply one. I make whatever with whatever that I think is pretty, or useful, or just because I want to see if I can. I guess makers come with deep thinkers and simple thinkers.

@@E-Kat Oh yes, I am!! I've found that I have a knack for pottery - at 58 years of age! It brings me so much joy. I had no idea I had it in me. Watching others express the art inside of them, as in this video, really helps to give a late bloomer like me the courage to embrace what is in my heart to do, too!

Start small, maybe a model of what you want to make. That’s one way to begin the process. You don’t know where it will lead you. They say the journey is as important-maybe more so-than the destination.

Go for it! I’m 76 and the last time I painted was in high school. I just bought watercolor pencils, a paintbox and a small A5 sketchbook. Larger is too large for now. They are like ordinary colored pencils but once you brush the drawing with water the magic happens. Then I found a program on KZfaq about a doodle a day meaning to draw something simple. A leaf, a key etc. it’s so much fun and it hones the eye. There are so many art series on YT to help overcome the hesitation. Good luck!

I would like to learn how the artists and subject of their art is selected. While all are great, and I learn a lot from watching, there are many craft subjects which are regularly featured, and some which seem to be left out. Some are really artists and not what I would call craft. Where are the stone carvers? where are the people who are able to shape large sheet metal forms, who often are making custom car bodies or replica's body parts for antique cars. There is an obvious selection of college sanctified people vs non college.

Nature is poisons, toxic plants, dangerous animals, earthquakes, floods, snow, thunderstorms, lightning, volcanoes which produce the most toxic pollutants present on this planet, climate change, which is a normal process in the life of our planet Earth and the result of that was the ice age which had happened millions of years ago! We're part of it all. ❤

As long as they do not encourage rock stacking, and encourage people to be MINDFUL about their impacts on the environment, picking up a stick, Justine stick from the ground, means that stick no longer is supporting that environment. Slime molds, mycelium etc can no longer do their job. Just please be mindful about what you are harvesting, where and the impacts.

Stupidity runs high in your world! Rock-stacks fall over and there is so much ground cover, unless you bulldoze it to the rock, even then would rebuild the foundation with new leaves and twigs that fall and blow in. Someone like you are the ones with comments like this one, that get our public access shut down! Some that never leave the house are so ignorant to the real world and forest!

They are unique but I'm not to happy about whats going on in the forest industry, Now I see you guys cutting back saplings for the sake of art. The planet and all of its inhabitants are in dire need of regrowth in wooded areas. We don't need fancy bowls or vases.🌎🌲🐇🌳🐝🌿🐻🍁

Melanie Evaldi he’s only harvesting those in places where construction is set to begin soon, between big tree removal & start of construction. Those are saplings that came back up between that time. The builder would’ve cut it back down again & it wouldn’t have been used otherwise. So I think in THAT case it’s not harming anything that could’ve otherwise remained untouched. It wouldn’t have regardless. 🤷‍♀️

@@ashleyfalcon125 I get your point but If this group of people making art were in tune with nature and those trees like some said they were, replanting those saplings would be a much better choice. That's something I would definitely be interested in. Perhaps even an educational project for school children. The planet is in a climate chaos and people really need to change their way of thinking. Let us not just go with the flow of greed and say ' oh their destroying that plot of trees anyway so its okay to kill the rest. We need to fight these days for clean water, air, land management, animals and human rights. Trees are a very very important factor in this process.
