I'm looking at getting this on Christmas. As a Christmas gift to myself. But I'm thinking of getting 3 of them. Gaming on 3 monitor's is epic. But to have 4 screen's in one monitor. Awesomeness hands down. So if in time I get 3 of them. Than I can have 12 different screen at one time. I love this Tech Channel. PLUS the Community is second to none..

Your review was the tipping point for me to buy this monitor. I've been using it for 2 days and so far love it. I've experienced the black flickering once or twice but both times I glanced at my MSI Afterburner graphs and it was very clearly the GPU doing something (the core clock spiked) AND It affected all my screens, not just this one. I've had none today, but if it comes back I will simply clock my GPU higher by default. One question I have is the talk of 4:4:4 for text clarity. I'm not sure if this monitor is full 4:4:4, or if the LEDs themselves comply. I know the screen is 8 bit + FRC but I've no idea how that relates to 4:4:4. So far I've had no problem with text clarity running at 100% scale (that is, no scaling). I'm a software developer and have had no issues reading my code editor at the exact same zoom level as other screens (100%, no zoom). I think font choice and colors are a big part of that. My goal with this screen size (43") is to run 4k with no scaling so I get the full benefit of the pixel real-estate. Some sites, like KZfaq, have text a bit small IMO.

My gaming monitor is a 32" 1080p VA panel... If You wanna talk about lack of pixel density! :p. (Main Screen is an old but unkillable 30" Mac Cinema display.) Looks like you got yourself a great productivity monitor!

So I guess a higher end tv with 4:4:4, combined with a simple input switch could be better value? A 32" or similar size 4k tv would be interesting as a monitor.

Jeff i strongly encourage you to try the fast sync with this monitor. I also use a 60hz panel and struggle with tearing issues. The new drivers with fast sync have been a dream come true. I have seen much lower latency compared to Vsync on and all of my monitor complaints have disappeared. I would really like to see a follow to this video as i have considered this monitor for a few months now. I'm currently using a 1080p ultrawide.
@CraftComputing
@CraftComputing 6 жыл бұрын
Adaptive sync is fantastic for gaming, but there are typically tons of compromises for professional work. This monitor is primarily for my workstation/video editing rig. I game on it, but it's secondary. I do plan on getting a 144Hz monitor for my 8700k system, as soon as I get a new video card... either a Vega 56 for this rig, or a 1080 Ti for the 8700k. Great points though, and thanks for watching.

@CraftComputing
@CraftComputing 6 жыл бұрын
Productivity it is amazing. For gaming, the biggest issue is the screen tearing. There's no adaptive frame rate (G-Sync/Freesync) in this, but using VSync works just fine. As long as you can hold a steady 60fps, this monitor is pretty awesome. Good response times, fantastic color and viewing angles.

Wait, isnt the DPI of that monitor (102) almost the same as a 27 inch 1440p (108 DPI) one? Is the difference really that noticable? Im using a 4k 32 inch monitor which is honestly to small without scaling. 27 inch at 1440p is a perfect size IMHO.

I know I'm way late to the party, but using the CRU (Custom Resolution Utility) from ToastyX you can turn this screen into a regular sized 3440x1440 or even 3840x1600 ultra-wide screen if your specs are a bit too low for 4K at high settings and you're okay with small black bars at the top and bottom of the image. I think this looks way better than the regular 1440p resolution combined with the pretty horrid upscaler.

I'm having huge issues with 4K displays and Adobe applications on Windows machine. It scales terrible! Adobe is blaming MS for not being compliant with their UI scaling system and MS does the same with Adobe. Even after tweaking with rescaling percentages in the OS and within the Adobe properties it doesn't scale like it could. Some apps are worse off then others, but I find this lack of ultra highre scaling a show stopper for all 4K displays on Windows.

loved the review, very in depth. I've been considering a tv sized monitor, but would like to be able to sit back and use as a TV. with your experience on this 43 incher, would you wager that 49/50 inch is too large to use for productivity at a desk? I feel that 43 would be a hair small if i wanted to sit farther back and enjoy as a TV for movies.
@CraftComputing
@CraftComputing 6 жыл бұрын
I sit 28-36" away from this screen at all times. Even at that distance, I have to physically turn my head while using it. Not only that, but increasing the size, you're also decreasing the DPI and sharpness of the image. This is 108 DPI, and feels just about right.

I tried a 55" Sony X900E as my daily use monitor \ TV, then I tried this 43" UD79. I returned both. Both had pluses and minuses, but neither replaced the productivity of two 27" 2K panels for me - but really that is just personal choice. I found the 1080p split screen options on this were actually a step backwards from two 27" 2K's , but offset by the fact that you do get one full 43" 4K screen which can be nice in some scenarios. It didn't make sense to me however as a daily productivity monitor; some love it, I didn't. Plus this 43" UD79 uses PWM which only seems to affect some people. I'm susceptible to it and this monitor was really bad for that. A firmware update (June 5 2018 most recent) was supposed to fix it, but I found it made no difference. I got terrible eye strain, dry eyes, it affected my sleep and there's no way I could look at this screen for a full day. It was painful to my eyes. I tried f.lux and Iris software solutions which offered some limited relief, but create their own set of color correction problems by moving the white point. Still on the search for my ultimate setup ... I'm liking the idea of the Samsung 49" super ultrawide, but I'd like to see it in higher resolution so you could do the equivalent of bezel-less 2K splitscreen, or switch to one 21:9 for multimedia, even though that monitor is 32:9 and would have pillar bars on 21:9 content. That's an acceptable trade off to me.

in my advancing age, my eagle sharp vision isn't so eagle sharp anymore. Being used to playing my Pro and OneX on a 65" Sony X900E, my trusty Dell 27" Gsync monitor was starting to look/feel small gaming on it. Went cheap with a 43" Vizio D series and wasn't happy so got a 49" Sony X900F and happy now...definitely go big or go home. Sure the 144hz and Gsync was sweet on the 27" monitor but 4k @ 60hz/60fps looks great to me. #CoolStoryBro

screen tearing can definitely be an issue. given that I'm using a GTX 1080 card, I have all my games set to 1440 and they look pretty damn good. Playing in 1080p is way too awful on this screen. Also the experience playing on a screen this big is awesome.

I know it's an old video now, but MSI Afterburner/RTSS for limiting FPS is very good, or even better, use the Max FPS setting in the Nvidia drivers, and AMD has a similar thing :) This limits all games, no V-sync needed, so less imput lag. Also, are you still using this monitor? I had a ViewSonic in mind, but it disappeared from the Norwegian market, but this seems interesting.

Any chance you could please provide a little more info about the Picture-in-picture function, specifically the sub-window sizing? I'd like to route a second display from a laptop as the PIP but want to know if it is possible to have the sub-window showing 1920x1080 with 1:1 scaling - i.e. 25% of physical display. Samsung document this level of detail in their owners manuals but LG support haven't been forthcoming. Cheers.

The PiP can be the same input as the full display (1080p, 4k, etc). There are a ton of modes for PiP or Side-by-Side display. You can split the screen vertically (2x 1910x2160 displays), horizontally (2x 3820x1080 displays), 4x 1080p displays, or overlay a 1080 or 4k image like I showed in this video PiP style. For gaming, I'm a pretty big fan of the 3820x1080, as you get an ultrawide monitor that for me is perfectly at eye level.

Have you had any issues with getting 4 way split to line up perfectly when using multiple video sources from the same PC? When dragging a window from one screen to the other I can't quite get mine to line up correctly. I can get it close to where it's just a millimeter or two off. I figure it's a Windows 10 issue more so than the monitor, but anyhoo figured I'd see if you ever have ran into this and maybe..had a fix?

You say that unless I want to spend $1300 on a monitor there is always compromises. I would argue that a no or few compromise monitor doesn't exist at any price. I am willing to spend a lot and I still can't find a 43" 4k monitor that is both good at color reproduction for professional work and good at gaming in every respect with fast response times, high refresh rate, and no stupid artifacts like the edge blur thing or uneven lighting that some have. If you know of such a monitor let me know and I'll buy it.

Asus is coming out with the ROG Swift PG43UQ. It's a 43" 4K 144Hz G-Sync screen with HDR 1000, and has 90% DCI-P3 color. It's not pre-calibrated, but I'm sure you could dial it in to be a very accurate monitor. It is stunningly beautiful in person.

@@CraftComputing Doesn't look like it's got VESA mounting. That's a huge compromise because I need this thing to fit on a desk arm for professional work too. I have a heavy duty arm that can hold 35 lbs. for my current monitor. Also VA monitors are known for not having that great color reproduction so something is not right here. Any other candidates?

What wall mount did you use? The one you have looks low profile 👌

Thank you for the review! You said to enable V-Sync, but this monitor does not have V-Sync?
@CraftComputing

V-Sync is a game feature, and maxes the framerate of a game to match your monitor. You're thinking A-Sync, G-Sync, or FreeSync, in which your monitor adapts to the framerate of your game.
