In this tutorial I show you how I stitch on my overlocker in the round and a good tip on how to get the end of your stitching neat.
Overlocker / Serger I am using is a Juki M0-654DE
Fabric I am using is Art Gallery Fabric jersey from Minerva crafts

I'm new to sewing with knits and using a serger. I truly was ready to just stop trying as I have not had much sucess. This is an excellent tip and I'm anxious to give it a try. Thanks for sharing and now I'm off to explore your other videos. :)

@@crafthousemagic wasn’t as bad as I made out but I had or was just finishing a project that I was very pleased with. Last bit of overlocking and thought well I’ll really try to get this lined up. It was worse than when I don’t try. So I was super pleased to see this. It’s frustrating when a small thing detracts from an otherwise really good make. I’m going to have a go with this technique this afternoon. And........thanks again

Great tip Ellie. I use a babylock overlocker/serger and if I lift the needles and presser foot I think I can pull the threads out the back without messing with the tension dials. One of my overlockers doesn't even have dials its a self adjusting tension kind so I never need to dial in the tension. I can still change the stitch length and width with lower dials on the machine. I own one of your knitting bags and I can see what a beautiful seamstress you are. You should be very proud of your work.

Great idea. I am making facial rounds. They are curling up, as they are serged in the round, and there's a lot of bias. Do you have any tips for serging them and maintaining a flat finished round?
@crafthousemagic
@crafthousemagic 3 жыл бұрын
Maybe stabilise the edges with stay stitches on the regular machine or some iron on tape before you serge them x
@karenwood404
@karenwood404 3 жыл бұрын
Your serged seam in the round looks great! I'm wondering though why you would need to feed your thread tails back through the seam if you intend to topstitch? Doesn't the topstitching sew over your serged seam, in effect, locking the first serged seam?
@crafthousemagic

Yes I agree it does. But I like to see them in just in case and also I think it looks neater if the ends are buried on the inside x

So you must have disabled your knife blade for this demo? You haven’t said one way or the other but i find that my knife blade cuts a section of my old stitching and it looks frayed and nasty. How do you finish off when your knife blade is cutting?

Here for the response! I have the same problem!
@knittingknut
@knittingknut 3 жыл бұрын
Rachel Gildner I finally mastered it. I only use this for work that needs to be super neat. But here goes : Cut a small indentation about an inch long and about the width of your serged stitching into the edge of the fabric. Start serging halfway down the indentation with the knife blade active. Serge all the way around to the beginning of the indentation and stop there and deactivate the knife blade. At this point you should also take time to trim your beginning serger tail close to your edge. Finish serging along the indentation and just go over your beginning stitches by about 1/4 “ (or 1/2 cm). Stop and lift your presser foot and your needles. then take a long skinny tool and gently loosen your needle threads by pulling on them to create some slack. Then turn your work perpendicular to the edge, lower your presser foot and serge off. Next you want to make a really tidy and neat finish: locate your needle threads and tease them out from along the serger tail. Knot the needle threads and then straighten out and knot the looper threads. Then thread all onto a big eyed sewing needle and thread the strands back through the work. This makes the neatest finish for a visibly serged edge in the round for things like burp cloths or sleeve edges.
@crafthousemagic
@crafthousemagic 3 жыл бұрын
I just make sure that I don't cut where it has already cut once I have gone around once. No need to disengage blade. If you scoop into the right overlock position quickly to start with you don't need to cut. Careful feeding of the fabric is important x
