Years ago I was in Charleston, SC and had the opportunity to purchase a sweet grass basket from one of the ladies who had them for sale. I will always treasure the basket because it was handmade. Anything handmade is a treasure.

I’m enjoying this series so much. I love how the child knows the importance of keeping the tradition with her own children one day. Those baskets are lovely. I love the Native American baskets too, how they tell a story.

I was once in a thrift store and noticed a basket that was beautiful to me and I could see it was not made at a factory. I grabbed it and the cashier said it was fifty cents. When I got home I noticed it had on the back a cloth label said that that it was handmade by Annabelle Ellis and members of her family in Charleston S.C. Years later I was told it was a sweet grass basket and probably worth over a hundred dollars. I wouldn't take a million for it.

Watching these wonderful artists and crafters takes me away to another place in my mind and reminds me of what could have been if I worked a little harder and persued my own dream of making stained glass and crafting native art. Too many broken dreams, but it's great to see those who were able to become great crafters.
